What's the deal with overspray on full face masks? Can you clean the clear ok with solvent? Using epoxy 2k it sticks to everything pretty well permanently, have lots of fecked clear plastic safety specs...

  2. I had to get a new bottle recently.

they come fully sealed in plastic the tap and all.

but mt  wellington wanted the receipt. they wanted to refund the deposit then recharge the deposit and the cost of the new bottle.

told them they had it wrong and that they just needed to charge me for the new bottle and not worry about the deposit. they refused to accept this. so I went to manukau and they swapped it no questions asked

yes, if they fall within the wof threshold rules

    yes

yes if they are similar ish sizes, ie you wouldn't be able to cert a set of 13x7 and 20x8

so I could have 17x8 and 18x9 on the cert plate?

that would open me up to a much bigger range of BMW factory wheels and tyre options long term

Hi Cletus, I am looking to get a car certified soon for an engine/gbox swap and adjustable height suspension. If I get the car certified with the stock wheels on it, then put wider wheels on the car later on, will there be a problem getting a WOF?

yes any further mods or changes to the car will need to be re-certed.

basicly do everything you want to to the car then get it certed. everytime you go back you will have to pay.

Is you put a whole engine/driveline swap into a lower spec car, does it need drive shaft hoops and stuff for cert?

Example is taking a 328i BMW, and swapping EVERYTHING from a same year/model M3 into the 328i shell. Engine, driveline, suspension, interior, everything but body panels. I understand it needs a cert for increase in engine size etc, just wanted to know how strict it is since its all factory bolt in with no mods. Also, when getting said cert, if its on standard suspension, does it need to have the wheels noted on the cert or is there a way for the wheels to just not be listed?

(looking at a car that has had all this done, and it currently has garish wheels on it and would want to return to stock which is a different size, but current owner would cert the car as is with the current wheels)

is it a Boston green 328 from a safa  in roskill?

  6. Hi

where abouts in Auckland are you?

I own a blasting company, Smart Blast.

I offer vapourblasting in both a cabinet for small parts and components and mobile to be able to work onsite for larger items such as your car.

I'm happy to have a chat with you about your options are and what costs will be

  7. Plastic and paint stripper are not friends.

If the brake fluid or oven cleaner won't work I can blast them for you. Pant and plastic are also not the best of mates so paint comes of plastic quite easy.

The vapour blast will get the paint off and leave a Matt surface finish.

Does the blast unit need to be on the ground for loading of media etc?

No I have gone for a unit that is mobile . So it's on wheels so I can move it in to locations the truck won't fit. That's why I need. Tail lift or small crane to get it off with out blowing my Foo Foo valve

You can get a class 2  truck and put it on a class 1 label , that way you can spread the load between truck and trailer more evenly .

The gvm( gross vechile mass) rating will be lower but so long as the gcm (gross combined mass) is under the limit you will be okay.

I have never changed the rating on a second hand vechile but have done plenty on new hino trucks,

This is how a lot of traffic management trucks are set up so the they can still employ temps with a class 1.

The limits they set are for a therorical loads so the rucs will be cheaper too.

I would suggest weighing all the gear you will be carrying so you can work out a loading plan so you don't overload front axle etc and then see what options are available.

Always look at load ratings and occupant numbers on loading cert , easy to get caught out some say 2 occupants but have 3 seats, all Good till a incident then they do you for overloading.

Also a class 1 will be cheaper to use in weekend, going to look at jobs etc.

    My 2 cents

Thanks this is the type of info I'm after.

Compressor is 2160kg and blast unit is 100kg ish when empty.

I plan on getting media delivered to site by the supplier when possible. So I'm hoping I won't have to carry large amounts often.

As an alternative I can hiab your stuff around Auckland, that way there's no immediate fixed costs for you it's all variable on a per job sorta basis.

If you weld everything together in a frame so its a single lift @3T it would take a larger crane to lift it so would probably run up $400-500 + GST per shift, but if you can keep the pieces separate at 500kg-800kg a piece (compressor as a unit, spray thing as a unit, whatever else etc as a unit) it would be half that $ per shift. could probably shift it 50 times before you've hit the Cap-ex of buying a truck.

Just a thought for the meantime....

I know a guy who runs a mobile wheelchair manufacturing business where one of his units (that his Son operates) is a 200 series Landcruiser towing a tandem axle enclosed trailer around the countryside. trailer weighs approx 2.5T I think, works well as he can take the trailer off on weekends and still take his kids to their soccer game etc.

I had not thought of that. If I was doing large jobs where I was taking the work to the blaster it would work, but the jobs i have been quoting would require moving it a couple of times a day.

Yeah a cruiser is also an option there is one local to me that I have seen all over Auckland with a concrete pump on the back. Seems to do the job. Buying a trailer to carry 3.5 is also worth almost as much as the truck above.

if you had a say, 3-5 tonne truck, and made a frame for the compressor, blast unit etc to mount to, it could be a simple case of wind down legs, so the truck can nip away to get pies and drinks for smoko ?

you still have trailering capacity for bagged blasting product.

i would still want a small crane for lifting items

thats a great idea. but the blast unit is mobile, its on wheels and not overly heavy so could be unloaded with the crane or tail life.

If i get a truck i plan on putting my gn250 on the back for smoko missions haha

Hmm 500kg  could maybe be done with those engine crane style lifters that attach to a little truck or trailer and swivel

curtain sider or gullwing truck is handy for out of sight out of mind and having a shed / workshop on site

yeah its also good for keeping things dry, being wet is not a major but keeping things dry is always better.

Little crane truck means crane cert and crane operators ticket too ?

    Tail lift does not

Class 2 licence covers up to quite a decent size truck if ya can be bothered getting the licence and or make a worker get it too

i had not thought of the crane operators license, do you know if there is a size that this comes in to play.  A big one would be great but the reality is it only needs to lift 500kg. Trying to save my back.

yep the reality of it means getting my HT i have looked in to training but yet to finalise any thing art this point
