I recently bought this vacuum formed hull off trademe. It's quite a nice wee hull but is fairly flimsy as it's only plastic. I want to make a copy of it in fibreglass so it's a bit tougher. How would you guys recommend I go about making a mould? I've been reading up on it but keen to hear some real world advice as there's an overwhelming number of options.
It's part of a vintage kit so I don't want to destroy the original hull in the process. It would also be a bonus if more than one hull could be made but it's not essential. I've removed the motor mount, rudder post etc and will patch the holes up.
At this stage I'm thinking the way to go will be to clean up the inside of the hull, apply some sort of release agent and then fill it with plaster of paris/liquid latex etc to form a plug. Then fibreglass over this plug to make a hull.
Does this seem plausible to you guys? And if so, what would you recommend I use to form the plug? Thinking I'll just use a fibreglass kit from Bunnings for starters as it seems a pretty cheap/easy way to purchase everything I need to start out.
A couple of videos above for you to look at.

Another good one to watch.
If you don't have a polygon gun you can brush the gel coat on.

This is a good video for looking at what you are trying to make for the boat hull.
The lip on the edge is what brick is talking about producing with the core flute.
And yes he has 8 coats of wax. Glass factory I once worked in used 6 minimum.
Will see if I vand find another to help with the building of the mold he has.

This is where I got most of my plain tubing;
"Metal Archives - Aviation & Performance Parts Ltd" https://www.apparts.co.nz/product-category/aviation-parts/metal/
What's the price like. Steelcuts is like 40 per meter.

I've been looking at this a bit recently. Lots of youtubing etc. It's a future dream. But I will look with eager eyes.
Steelcuts.co.nz have chromoly thin wall tubing. Websites not working ATM. But might be worth a look.

For light. My blaster has a window in the roof. It then has a led flood light on that. Fully lights my 900x900 cab no problem. But I don't have the dust issue.

1st thing I think of is comfort. Do you want to be leaning over looking down while blasting for an hour?
2nd thing would be moving things around to get the blast angle. Shallow cabinets would become annoying quickly with larger items.

Also nozzle size is important to match to the cfm of your compressor
The link below has a link to a pdf for this.

One thing to look at is the gun. They are normally junk.
Have a look at BNP guns. Machinary house has a bnp copy.

I know the place and have seen the story a couple of times. First thought is a love triangle drug thing gone wrong.
But after more thinking I think it was an attempted arson for insurance money.
Happy to be corrected.

He goes through his whole set up. Good watch to get an idea of the processes.
This is the recipe I'm going to use.

I'm also looking at a alkaline rather than a acid based solution also.

Hello gents.
I'm currently setting up a small electro plating thing as well.
There are many YT videos where they use either the caswell kit or vinegar home brew.
So far I have got both zinc and nickle anodes off aliexpress and a small variable power supply.
There are a couple of videos that i have been basing my brew from.
There is a guy who rebuilds carbs. He talks about a recipie for a pasiviate in one video. Needs a couple of different acids. I think sulfuric for yellow and nitric for black/silver.
I have found some of what I need at bunnings. The hydrochloric acid and a drain cleaner.
There is a pool chemical that is used in the plating brew as a brightener. I have found a nz supplier but it's in a different format to what's in the videos so would need a little bit of playing to get mix correct.
The other stuff zinc oxide? Can be purchased from soap making supplies.
The hardest thing was the acid. It can be found easy but I don't have the funds to get it at the moment.
I'll be back to post the video's soon.
