  1. Years ago I asked the Mrs to let me have my own garden somewhere out by my shed - that could be seen from the bedroom window. I told her that I would look after it. I parked this in it as the main feature. I was going for the natural look with low/no maintenance sort of thing, but the bastard weeds took over. Oh well - fuck it :) lol!

Being somewhat of an efficient OS'r I utilize the garden as a storage area also. I reckon it adds to the character of the place. The Mrs reckons I am a shit gardener, lol!!

Not an old truck but at the entrance of my shed (that has a cool old truck in it)

  2. That far end looks really fucking outta wack eh? Out of interest (cause I've never done this sorta stuff before) how does one get this all back in alignment? Mount it up so the straight part of the flange is parallel with one of the table axis and commence cutting/facing it until you start seeing witness marks on the fucked flange - then keep dropping it until the bent flange is machined/cut back in alignment with the rest of the ports? Is this what is being discussed above? This must take some strength outta the flange on the whole, eh? Tell.

  3. Re Air Liquide, they asked what gas I was wanting. I told them Argonshield. They said they don't refill that type of gas. So maybe they do other types and not Argon? Dunno. Datlow mentioned eziswappa's. I saw this advertised at Techweld when i walked in. I asked about this and it seemed cheap until they said you had to buy the bottle. There's always a catch eh? Plus they don't do the bigger bottles. So it sounds like its a supagas alternative if you were starting out and did not own your own bottle yet. Plus you lived outside of the Supagas area like Palmerston North is. I didn't ask about any further details because I felt like shouting the F word really loudly in the shop when she mentioned the 'you buy the bottle' part. Next step ... wait 3 weeks and report back on my experience. When I purchased my bottle I noticed it came with 18,800psi (or whatever its measured in) on the gauge. I noted this down for future comparisons on refill value. Didn't occur to me that once you join the oyo bottle ranks you trade being rogered in the rectum by BOC cock for another master called Supagas. Lol. Gawd we take it deeply in this country.

  4. Ahhh yeah! Trucks from my youth. 237 HP Maxidyne and 5 speed in an R series 6 x 4 tipper. They didn't RPM very high but they had a ton of torque right from the gitgo. And that stick held lightly against the gate with the clutch out just jumped in when the revs were right but the boss didn't like seeing that happen. The truck used to lurch forward when you did it going down, lol. Mid late 80's ahhhh! No responsibilities and fit as fuck. Take me back god.

  5. Update. Air Liquide (or however you say it) do not refill owner bottles. This said, they swung straight into letting me know that they would rent me  bottle. All roads lead to Techweld if you live in Palmy and are not part of BOC's bottle rental portfolio it seems. My bottle is 10.3m3 (G) and is going to cost me $400 and something. Its going to take 3 weeks and i will get my own bottle back. I didn't end up getting a bottle from BOC to carry me over (what the fuck was i thinking) instead going to rely on my first love - my 1950's era Youngs Welder.

  6. Yeah, it seems we all have similar thoughts, questions and experiences. Ok, I have just waterblasted all of the oil residue shit from off the deck of my ute so my empty bottle won't get yucky, become slippery, able slip from my paws as i am unloading it - and I become famous for Torpedo launches in the car park. I am going to visit Air Liquide and see what they offer and then Techweld. Techweld (I rang them) and they are the agents for Supagas in Palmy and they guarantee you get your exact bottle back. I dunno about Air Liquide or even if they offer the service. I will report. Oh yeah ... and i will be calling into BOC to get a small bottle to tide me through while I am waiting for my one to get back, if what i sort out ends up that way. Later ...

  7. I have run out of Argonshield for my MIG. I own the bottle. I have never had to fill it before but was told by the seller that Supagas (or someone) up in Hamilton fills these bottles. They have an agent in Palmy who reckons it can take upwards of 3 weeks turnaround. Does anyone know if that is my only option in getting it filled? Or is there somewhere else in Palmy where my bottle does not have to leave town. Ta.

  8. Gomaxgo had the right suggestion - leakdown. Its going somewhere and its cost you a fair little bit both in time and dosh chasing it down so far. While not a leak down test, a cheap stethoscope and a fabricated adapter made from a sparkplug that will allow you to put a 100psi into the pot will go a long way towards giving you some insight as to whats going on. Its there is a hole, gap or a crack, you'll know about it. Get busy with the listening device in the confines of a quiet shed and you'll track it down. Cost - a little bit of time and next to no dosh.

  9. Wish I could model shit like you pricks can. There was an offer of a temp key to Solidworks in an above post. Was wondering if the offer extended to another OS bro (me) I want to teach myself modelling. I currently use TurboCAD to draw and SheetCAM to post process. I got these cut in with a small run of other shit i was having done for me. Anyway ... wanted to close the loop. From a request from an OS'lr .... through the various renditions in the above posts .... to a pair of the finished items to try out. They are ready to pick up from my place J-W-G, churr.

  10. And while i am on it ... whats the general rule of thumb for the late 70's - early 80's RWD Toyota's in terms of wheel PCD. Were they all the same as a general rule or were there abnormalities within the species (lol) also. I know there are big arsed lists available but i am after a general rule of thumb. Cheers.

  11. I am not up to play with the wheelstud pattern (patterns?) used on the rx7 series of Mazda motor cars. What are they, was there more than one pattern employed and what do dudes do in terms of keeping them the standard PCD. I mean does the majority change them for another pattern ... keep them - what? Big question i know but I have never owned one and none of my mates own these sorta cars. I am talking about the early ones. the rx2, 3 and 4 sorta ones. Ta for any info.

  12. Isss it in dxf already or do you got it on the paper by pencil format? Doess it look like the ones in the 1st pic in the link? I isss getting some more cut sssoon and can probably get yours done at same time if you are not a twat and are are not after something done for free. Waterjet so its precise, clean and very fucking Pro.

  13. Shifted this prick too. Same way, same deal. We were fucking experts in the matter by then also, lol. I got the lathe first. When that arrived, I got given a name of an outfit by the Hi-ab driver of someone that specialized in shifting heavy equipment around warehouses. I rang them and quickly wished i had not. They wanted unimpeded access for several meters in every direction the load was to travel, be done at a time that suited them and not me, said they might damage the painted surface on my shed floor and wanted payment up front due to me not being a business. Fuck off i was thinking as my eyes were glazing over listening to this prick. We shifted this using the same technique as we had shifted the lathe previously. No damage and able to sneak through barely made gaps. Worked slow, took no risks, worked slow, more slow .... and got it done. i like shed challenges like this, lol. Have shifted in more machinery since and its all been ho hum once you understand the effort required. Good stuff on sorting your heavy little Holden motor out. Churr.

  14. Good stuff! Mate, myself my sons (and they are/were young guys) shifted this heavy mother. A fucking big arsed Hi-ab left it in the entrance of my shed. And lucky i was there too, the prick wanted to leave it with one of its footings outside up on dunnage so he did not have to place it down and shorten the strops to take another bite at getting his boom under the door. I have not got concrete outside the shed doors (should have got it done years ago) and no forklift. How did the cunt think I was going to lift it up, move the fucking thing, then drop (place) it onto the shed floor. Fuck i just don't trust cunts with key shit to do with my shed anymore without me being located centrally and right there looking over their shoulder. But anyway ... pipe as rollers and long levers to make it easy, and got it to its nominated work position with no collateral damage and no ding to whanau funds. PA200797.jpg

  15. Hang on.. This needs to become a DIY engine moving thread. How can one man do this by being inventive?

I'm going to suggest levers and rollers.

Fuck yeah! I have moved some pretty decent 3ph machinery in my shed and was fucked if I was going to pay some professional movers/placers to bring their skates, roller and levers to carry out what is effectively a thinking exercise. I modified a bottle jack into a toe jack, cut roll bar sized pipe and used modified torsion bars and bits of wood for levers. Yo to the pyramid builders! Shifted a big arsed lathe first and armed with that experience bought a large turret mill that i absolutely looked forward to shifting across the floor, lol. Moving heavy shit up drives and around sheds challenges the mind. Good shit.

  16. thingies? The clear plastic envelope/holder that you slide your rego sticker into on the lower left hand side of your windscreen. I have seen one in a car that had 'FUCK UP' printed on the back for the passengers benefit. I want one like this. Does someone supply ones with custom messages printed on them or something. The only ones I can find have some ripoff business advertising written on them. Anyone know?

  17. I reckon your coil is not tight enuff and your are not making enuff heat. And that the majority of heat you are making is not spending any time being focused on the pipe like you want it to - but escaping up your chimney. You've got some shit kinking going on on that pipe of yours eh? This is what was happening to me when i was trying to make a tighter coil by hand.
