  1. Watch this space..... Actually, probably don't. I'm not even picking it up for a week. But it appeals as bolt on power that may or may not blow up my "gutless" 300K miles motor for lols. etc.
  2. It's off a Jag, a 4 litre I would guess. I'll check the numbers when I pick it up . I'm sure those clever sods on the internet will have plotted graphs for cfm/CR/CC and how much to over/under drive for the right results. Superchargers are mint in my head, I've never owned one but all those Cummins' can't be wrong.
  3. Yeah, mine's the only one left. Probably. They say a bloke in the next town has one but I'm not so sure.... Funnily most of the Hilux people have said 1KZ too. I have, however, found an eaton supercharger at my mates place. I also found this.... That'll do it.
  4. Thanks mang, I'll look into that. 10 scrillion dubbers cant be wrong.
  5. May have to head off to the Hilux forum in the morning and see who''s got what for sale.
  6. Funnily enough, there probably isn't really. Petrol's cheaper(£ 1.29/L vs £ 1.34) here as diesel is being demonised. I just fancy sticking with old diesel technology for some reason. Simplicity of installation and maintenance maybe ? Resistance to EMP's and greater variety of fueling options in the subsequent apocalypse ? I'm not after shredding tyres, need more low down grunt but also a reasonable level of consumption. I've never actually worked it out but I'd guess it's doing mid to high 30's MPG at the moment. V8 burble would be nice though.
  7. Buick V6, anybody do a kit ? 1JZ no fit 1KZ maybe. Rover V8 because we've got 3.9's and 4 barrels lying around and though may not sound the best option, they're the best sounding option.
  8. Bonsoir les chattes bon. Three month update and a bit of a brain picking session. It's been great, I've put 3,500-ish miles on it and really haven't had to do much except put diesel in now and then. Anyway, last week I was aware, once again, of the smell of failure in the air. Had a look underneath and yep, sure enough, oil's coming out. And a bit of water & P/S fluid, but that doesn't matter. Looks like it's the rear crank seal this time. Sigh..... So it's engine out, and as has been pointed out once or twice, a "gutless " engine at that. If it's out and broken, why would I put it back in ? Obvious solution is a later 2.4 turbo lump (or a 2.8 if they bolt straight in) but I'm considering a bit of an increase of workload for the old bus (more of which to come). So my question is any ideas ? I don't want to cut massive holes in the thing and I don't want to make my life too complicated. It cant be much longer than the stock lump so it's Rover V8 (no laughing at the back), or a similar sized diesel ? Not one of those Toyota 1UZ-FE V8's thanks, I get a headache just looking at diagrams of them. 4BT Cummins ? I'd put a Land Cruiser 1HD-T in, but it's way too long. A TD5 might fit I spose.... Just want some more torque and not too much elctrickery. Any ideas ? Chur.
  9. Yeah, I was aware of the diff thing, though wasn't sure how closely related they are. The internet seems to think a Subaru 180 (?) diff will "fall right in" but I doubt that's true, half shafts must be different, Shirley. I'll have to look into it, this ones seems ok but it's a bit tired and whiny. /fits right in over here aye. *edit* I think Kevin San put one in his car, I'll go blow the cobwebs off JNC and have a look.
  10. End of summer update.... Autumn's nearly here but the weather's still dry and the temp is in the high teens so I'll keep on using it until the winter rain and road salt arrive. It's been a good few months of Skyline driving, I've put quite a few hundred miles on it and am really happy I got my thumb out and sorted it for the road. No real problems except a continuing worry that the gearbox and diff are a bit low on oil. The plugs proved really hard to shift, at one point I had a set of 2 foot Stilsons with 2 foot of scaff tube and they still wouldn't shift. Finally today I got it on the 4 post ramp, stuffed a load of heat into them and got the bastards loose. Fucked them in the process and was glad/not glad that both g/box and diff were full of nice smelling, clean oil. Changed it anyway. They must just be worn out then. I'll let things develop. Started reshaping what was left of the bungs but then boss man Lee appeared with two shiny new gold anodised alloy plugs that are something trick for Land Rover axles or something, I zoned out TBH. Lighter than the originals so the car felt a bit faster on the way home. Pic for fred, hopefully more to come before it goes back in the shed till the spring.
  11. Hey, where ya been ? Holidays got in the way, and then sorting everything out that happened while we were away so no Skylining for me until today Brakes finished, had to remake one flare and grind some stuff (bits of caliper) to make it all work, but it all works and doesn't leak, which is nice No pics coz phone's broke but y'all know what brakes look like I would imagine. This post has been brought to you by "Shit Post Mondays" /you're welcome
  12. No, that was the caliper I had out of the box at the time. I looked at the pic earlier and thought someone's going to pick me up on that.... Thanks though. I had the option to bodge it up the other day with what I had lying around but that would have mean't bleeding the calipers off the hubs and then mounting them upside down, not ideal as you say. I've seen VW Beetle rear backing plates mounted upside down before with the cylinder at the bottom, and working, though gawd knows how.
  13. Monday afternoon shenanigans As mentioned the new calipers differ where the pipe goes in. Aftrer a bit of thinking I decided to stick with the standard flexi hoses but extend then using hard lines. This means I have to put a small taper into the end of the flexi hose and make upsome brackets to support the join. Given my usual level of bodgery, I'm quite glad how it looks so far. Pics... Same/not the same A bit of 3mm off-cut I had kicking around. Cut and cleaned up. Trimmed to clear the calipers. This was plan "A" on the length, I cut them back to clear the bumpstop mount. Measuring up for the hard lines. Finished off with a coat of "Sump disaster" red, hopefully the curse won't follow it... Making up the pipes later so hopefully all back together by the end of tomorrow. Woo-Hoo
  14. Sunday of productivity. Water pump back on, filled & warmed up. No leaky, no squeaky. Messed about with the front brakes but couldn't work out a way of fitting the new calipers without it turning into a fearsome bodge. I'll take the calipers & current flexies into the workshop tomorrow & make up some hard lines and brackets. Rear brakes went well though. Offered the shoes up and they looked good enough for a country job Everything fitted perfectly so I can confirm that 1971 Datsun 510 rear brakes are the the same as Hakos. Do with that information what you will.... Also done a vid. Really to demostrate the tappet rattle for comparison after I've adjusted them but it sounds like the cam's not bolted in. It's really not that bad. So that's about it, hopefully full braking will be restored by the end of tomorrow and then I might even give it a clean. Once I've adjusted the valves I'll give it the beans, I've been staying below 4 grand (mostly) because of the water pump but it really feels like it wants to pick up between 4 and 4,500. Thank you for your continuing interest.
  15. I was going to spend all day on the old crate today but didn't get on it till 6. Stupid Saturdays. Having decided not to go the Pro Stock/ Street Freak route, (see random picture thread, page 4283) I thought I'd better mend the thing. Calipers fit but the originals had the fitting in the middle of the body so the the flexies aren't long enough. By chance, Hilux chassis to rear axle hoses are 60mm longer so I may get away with that. Anyway, bailed on the brakes and pulled the water pump off. In true Japanese style, all the bolts came out fine and everything seems the same on the new pump. Came in at 7.30 in time for chips and beer. No Skylining tomorrow, taking the daggs to the beach. Want to do more Skylining TBH. PS.... Any of you GC's know what the valve gaps are for a '72 L20 ? Gonna go with 240Z specs unless I get told otherwise. /pics
  16. Fucking civilised as fuck. It's almost a Jag or a Roller now.
  17. And this arrived today... Reckon the old crate's gonna look right fancy soon. Prepping and priming once I've put all the brakes n ting on the boxy car.
  18. Well gosh dang it, possum on a gum bush, etc. Bumper arrived in less than 3 days, 4 days early. It's good quality, painted nicely not just primed & only cost 9 quid. Bargain. Save the tea for next time @Dell'orto God Bless 'Murica.
  19. Cant see that happening, it'll be all Hello Kitty stickers and a roll cage made out of yellow plastic pipe before you know it. Although...... keep looking at the set of Cooper Cobra's i bought the other day and thinking they'd look pretty cool on some 10 x 15 Watanabes. /Now, where's my grinder ?
  20. Nah, meckal. " In primer, ready to paint to your vehicles specification " Anyway, if they're wrong it'll be Dell'orto's problem.
