  1. I've always fancied that, maybe I'll wait until my 80's. I remember the 1970's Tamiya catalogues made good use of bonsai. I have an actual natural one in a pot, a Cedar pod that had grown on a mossy rock that my dad rescued. He also had a Beech that grew out of a log but it karked it one hot summer. I have been looking into making trees for a couple of diorama ideas. Watch this space ?
  2. Made a start on the bodywork. Planning on going for the ' parked under a pine tree' effect ultimately so it's mostly a waste of time. /a bit like my phone //pics
  3. Spent some time messing up the body & chopping bits off. @Lord Gruntfuttock, I bottled it (again) on accident damage but I'll get to it some time Found an ancient aerosol tin on the shelf. Looked like a pretty good 50's Caddy type colour. Weathering, rust & detritus to follow. /Pics /TOTP
  4. Too late for the Waxoyl.... Bodywork next !
  5. Busted airbag slam
  6. ....That and the fact they've some bloody front, obviously. / quick, somebody do some models.
  7. German description. They had two fronts. Western front was through Belgium & France, Eastern front was against the Russians & Romanians and ran from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. /Or thereabouts.
  8. Okidoki. Commencement of the 1/24th-ness Also, the dogs kicked off about an hour ago, went out to the gate and the PBY had landed. According to the delivery text it was " In the front porch"... To answer @Alfashark, yes, it comes with beaching gear, but I haven't got the space to have it beached. pic. It's a big bastard. 500 cc Coke bottle 4 scale. Nice.
  9. Please excuse my re-quote but that's an interesting point & one that rates up there with 'How rusty would vehicles actually be during WW2 ?' 1940's steel doesn't really rust very fast, it was much more likely to get blown up. My truck never saw conflict, but it helped build the Alaska Highway & then spent 30 or 40 years as a county truck and yet only really has damage along the sides & floor of the tipper body and a bent bumper. It wasn't pretty, but it wasn't fucked either. /pic
  10. Thanks, your Lordship. I should have done just that, but I bottled it. It basically involves either heat, (which is as you rightly say risky ) or removing the areas to be damaged & replacing with thin foil which acts & reacts more like metal. Also, sanding the plastic so it's paper thin gives a bit of flexibility but again, the potential to bolloks it all up is there. I have chosen my next victim & will be attempting to go full decay on it. It's a kit I've had for maybe 35 years but never got round to it. It's 1/24th scale too so I'm hopefully lowering my chances of getting chucked off this thread.
  11. Well, I think I just managed to pull it out of the fire. Just. The curse of the ICM kit I reckon. A little bit more tweaking and it'll be there. I might have to do a little diorama with some old crap lying around for the full effect. Anyway, a couple of pics Some of it I'm really pleased with, some not so much. Practice makes perfect. Guess I'll just pile the crap against the bits I'm not so keen on. Chur.
  12. I think I could live with that... Anyway, that's a while down the list yet. Think I've managed to mess the truck up n'all. *sigh*
  13. I have no idea. My plan is to hang it off the ceiling anyway but I do like me a 30's Flying Boat. Maybe get a 5A at a later date & build a Black Cat....
  14. Also..... All this vehicle stuff is not my original childhood passion. It was planes all the way when I was a nipper. Just won this 3 minutes ago on eBay for very cheap. My fave prop plane ever in 2 foot wingspan 1/48th scale. / Niiiiiice.....
  15. Truck bed oxidisation complete, 1000 inter-web points for naming the TV show. Also a bit of practice for the cab Hopefully get it done & dusted on Sunday as the weather's proper fucked.
  16. Thanks ! The plastic is grey so that meant I didn't need a primer. Red first, masked up the white but took the tape off while it was still a bit wet so it left ragged edge in places. Once dry, I sanded it back on the sharp edges and generally across the surface. A few scrapes with the knife at various angles. Then dry brushed first in silver, again mostly on the edges. Finally, three different shades of rust (from a Vallejo acrylic set) built up on the silver & grey bits. I was going to do a couple of scrapes of blue or yellow but thought I'd better stop before I bolloocks'd it all up. That's about it, try it out on a bit of spare something as a practice piece ? That's what my Bergepanther Recovery tank was s'posed to be but I was well pleased with it in the end. / self indulgent pics for Fred
  17. Well, research stage is completed, pretty sure the red wheels would be a fail. So, I reckon the last one will probably be the winner. I'd better get on with the real one. Which won't be on this thread, obvs. Any road up, back to modelling. I can't have shiny things so I'm up to my usual tricks. The rest of the truck will get it next ! /Pic
  18. ^ You'll buy that, won't you ? Final assembly is pending. Made the tipper mechanism. I can't imagine it's up to much in real life as it all operates near the pivot point. Truck's rated at 1.5 tons so it maybe ok. Looking a bit "Lego"... Hopefully finished tomorrow.
  19. Nearly there ! Finally got the hang of the blue enamel. Lay it on thick & work it like coach paint. Shame I didn't figure that out for the bed, but meh, it's only a bit of fun. Shiny... Also, started on a resemblance of the tipper gear. It'll all be painted black & under the bed but as with @Indiana_Jones's plug leads, I'll know it's there. That's it for now, I've started clearing the barn up to get cracking on the real one.
  20. Plodding on... The black enamel paint went on really nicely, as does the red, but the blue is runny & shit & took two coats. Same company, same order. It smells different so maybe it's "improved" ? Won't matter once it's had it's regulation Shuzz weathering. While doing my research for the bigger one, I've worked out it wasn't originally a dump truck. / but that's only semi relevant here.
  21. Are those plug leads ? Steady on, old chap. Much as I always reckoned the VW Beetle was a long-game weapon in Hitlers big plan (we'd all be busy mending them when he invaded in the 80's), I wonder if ICM & MiniArt kits are s'posed to be distracting the Russians before the big retaliation. /spam.
  22. It's getting there... Paint the chassis next & then start on the cab & bed. In " I really shouldn't buy any more crazy Ukrainian kits" news, I bought this... 439 parts, FFS. It even has 2 part U-Bolts for clamping the bed mounts to the chassis. All these parts to make TWO wheels & tyres. Madness awaits.
  23. Evening fellow modellers ! (yeah, right...) So. The Chevy. Now, far be it from me to judge the abilities of any producer of model kits, but this is the second & last ICM kit I'll be building. The 6 wheel Mercedes staff car got bunged in a corner and has only just been saved with respray & some tarpaulin.... To be fair, it must be tricky concentrating on the detail of 1/35 scale injection moulding while the Russkies are lobbing cruise missiles at you but I'm struggling with the results again. I got past the fact that the rear springs were identical, as opposed to left & right handed. The fronts were fine. With a little trimming & tweaking the rears ended up pretty damn close. Then I tried to glue the axle on & the mounts were about 3mm out each side. Times that by 35 and no amount of kicking & swearing is going to make up a 3" gap. I extended the spring perches to fit but I hope that's it for the fettling. I've got enough to worry about making it into a tipper. Anyway, pics... Spring hangers widened Chassis nearly done First coat & liight weathering on the engine & box In other news, my super cool purchase dated January 3rd still hasn't arrived. I'm about to start a Paypal claim. Stupid models.
  24. Next out of the traps is this.... IRL my plan for the 1/1 scale dump truck is to civilianise it so I thought I build this one with a view to deciding on a paint scheme. I will update as I go along but I'm thinking black chassis, fenders & wheels with a blue bed & lower cab, possibly with a white top half & bonnet. Anyway, got a start on these past couple of evenings. Also, got this for Christmas off the bin lids & bought some interior & exterior photo etch. It may be next on the list but I have something special on the way.
  25. It is the Tamiya kit. It's the early 70's one with about 20 parts but the photo etch extra detail really brings it to life. The clips for the tools on the fenders are proper fiddly. And yeah, Zee Germans would have won WW2 if it had been a cool looking armour competition. It becomes quite obvious that George Lucas based "The Empire" on the Krauts when you compare some of the transports & walkers to German Halftracks.
