  1. Yea I got away with it but mine's just a pussy little escort hahaha. Don't listen to me, listen to the pros!
  2. Charge the battery or put a good one in it. Start the car, remove the negative battery cable - if car stalls, alternator issue. Just swap a new one out vs. changing brushes. Just cheap enough for a new one and you know it's gonna be good for a while.
  3. Managed to get this done. Wow what an easy swap over. Who didn't tell me it was only 3 bolts and a plug in the back of it. Hahahah! I didn't realize it was just a big plug, I thought it was all soldered wiring.
  4. Yea I do have an alt fitted now. Fingers crossed. I got a mate who's a mechanic coming to fit it for me or at least give me a hand as I learn. Rally hoping for a simple swap out as I need the bugger up and running as it's my daily! Fingers crossed! What I was getting was the electrical light on despite a manually charged battery. It drains and the car won't recharge it, it appears. Even with a fully charged battery the electrical fault light stayed on. Battery lasted about 3 days.
  5. How difficult is this to do? Mine has blown so I've gone and ordered a new one, I've been suggested 12v at 45amp or higher. I've gone with a Lucas 17ACR alternator from classicarmirrors.com. Price I paid was $160 the old guy reckons it should be the same unit and an easy swap over. Any suggestions that I should look out for as this is my first alternator swap? Would you guys know if this unit fits the brackets of a standard unit on a 1300 GL? Thanks lads.
  6. Sup guys, My girlfriends old man hooked me up with a 32 IDF Downdraught webber and I was wondering what it would take to hook it up to my 1300 block? I see the manifold on there is a 4 to 1, reckon I could just get someone to forge me up an adaptor plate to split back into two as the new carberator is a dual throat? This carby just needs a bit of a clean up but otherwise should run sweet. I know it sounds a bit off to run such a big webber on a 1300 but I don't have the cash or time or experience in doing an engine swap for a 1600 and I wanna try get what I can out of my 1300 especially with a free webber. Ideas? Thoughts?
  7. Hey guys, I just got a standard 1300 escort and it's the standard carby. What's a good air cleaner to replace my old circle black one with? I was checking out trademe and seen those Ramflo ones but wasn't too sure. Are they easy to put on, wouldn't need any special adapators or anything? I checked out STAparts but really, I don't know which ones would fit and which wouldn't. I wanted either an oval or circle one with a chrome top around 100 bucks.
  8. Yea what gets me is that it used to sometimes bounce back on me. So I feel like it's the sender. I'll have a good play with it.
  9. Awesome man. I'll give it a go this weekend!
  10. Just to explain cause I'm kinda confused haha. My gauge is already above full. It doesn't read the tank at all. Would this be a sender issue? Should I just buy a replacement tank and sender line for the car I can get one for about 40 bucks second hand out of an old escort. Also, reckon it'l be hard to install?
  11. Not getting any reading on my fuel gauge and as it's my daily I'm really struggling with putting a long piece of grass into the tank to see how much fuel is left. Someone said it'll be my sender line. Difficult to replace or should I be looking and replacing the entire tank? It'll sometimes kick back in when I hit a heavy bump, but it's been dead for weeks and weeks now. Cheers boys!
  12. If anyone is keen to reset my leafs, go for it. I'd be down to pay your way. Northland area.
  13. That's what I'm thinking man. Slam it.
  14. How low should I go?
  15. Looking to drop my escort. What would you reccomend for someone on the cheap? I've got some 2 inch lowering blocks arranged and I managed to get them for $120 bucks and they're brand new aliminum ones. Now what I'm concerned about is the front. I've managed to hunt down some lowered springs out of an MK1 for 100 bucks and the guy said it'll probably drop you down 1.5 inches. Should be okay on my stock shocks do you think? I just don't want to blow any shock seals or tophat - which could be the case without shortened shocks. What do you guys think and reckon I could get away with it for the time being until I can sus some coilovers?
  16. Haha sweet man, yea someone said they are pretty sturdy! I'll just keep rolling with it until something blows up or conbusts into flames.
  17. Hey guys, Pretty much no next to nothing about cars and engines but I'm getting there slowly. My 4 speed gearbox leaks oil from time to time which I've noticed over the past 2 months on the driveway. I was getting quite a crunch in reverse but otherwise all other gears were fine. Now over past few days it could be my imagination but my gears just seem too easy to push around and everything feels a bit loose/smooth. Should I be concerned about a fried clutch or gearbox coming up? Thanks.
  18. I'd be pretty keen to catch up with a few old schoolers in Whangarei. Is there a meet at all? I'd be down on a beer or two and a feed and the chance to check out some sick whips! Let me know! Thanks!
  19. Hey guys, I was wondering. I have a 1300 in my Escort, not exactly sure which one but I want to get a bolt on carby for it. What model would you assume I'll need and is there a rough idea on price inclusive of all the parts. Am I right in saying I will only need a single pump? I want to look into a 1600 engine but I don't have the funds for one at this stage, but I figured a little carby will gvie the beast a little more grunt and give it a better sound. It has extractors on it now but nothing fancy. If anyone has one for sale, please PM me I would be interested! Are they difficult to install? Any further information for a novice would be appreciated. Thanks!
