Might depend to some extent on where they were first registered too then.

I'm guessing registered in 1980 cos I've had three '79 cars beginning with J and dad's '80 Hilux that I got my licence in started with JL.

if anyone wishes to experience life in Ohura, the old police house is officially for sale.
Love the dinosaur frieze in the bedroom. Would definitely keep that.

An older guy I work with runs a 302 with 289 heads. Reckons it was a pretty standard thing to do for gaining a few extra horsepower back in the day. Not related to your timing question but you may find it useful.

Wagon time on last school trip meant 110-120 to keep up with the leading school bus.

Love that unguarded flat belt. Real OS.

Also, it doesn't necessarily have to be ground- a skim in a lathe with good tooling will also suffice (have done a few at work)
You'd be amazed how warped and worn the surface can become

Gotta love your mum 8ball. That's classic.

Pretty sure CUL8R is correct about the old Transits. We had a Mk2 at my first job back in the '80s. Went very hard for what it was.

You might try removing the battery then have a go at kick starting it. My ex's CG125 wouldn't kick start when the battery was flat but with no battery it started on about the second kick pretty much every time. It was like it was trying to use the energy of the kicking to charge the battery rather than making sparks.

A colleague in Akl saw that ALF out for a cruise along the waterfront the other day. He didn't have a clue what it was at the time but when I sent him a pic off here he confirmed it was that.
Would require balls of steel to race a thing like that.

Just chlorine tori? Pretty sure that's what the Jerries used in WW1. Uncle Bill lost all function in one lung in that little lot.

Drove dad's 12r powered 2wd '80 Hilux around the farm a lot before I got my licence. First lesson in a car was with grandfather in his 1500 automatic Allegro when I was about 12. Mostly learnt to drive on tractors.

A guy I knew at tech in the '90s had one of those lowered on cutties. Changed back to full height springs for each wof. First time he did it he took all day. Got down to a couple of hours with practice.

Wonder if that would be an easy change into an EN Civic? Anyone know?

Are fwd slippery diffs even a thing? Would be handy sometimes for off-road use.

Nothing wrong with drum brakes all round. Worked fine on my TK.

Minis, an Austin 1300, and a '51 Vanguard sedan. Still got the Vanguard in my shed at mum and dad's and the 1300 is in the paddock beside my bus though it is well rust fucked and hasn't run since the winter of '96.

Met an owner of a V8 Cherokee at a Church camp some time ago. He said he had previously had another one with the 4.0 litre 6 and it hogged the gas worse than the V8. Reckoned it was because they are such a heavy car with the aerodynamics of a brick and the V8 was not having to work as hard.

I have two sets of legitimately issued plates and papers for the same car. Neither set of plates is the set it first left the dealers with as it is too old / was first registered before permanent plates were a thing in New Zealand.
