  1. Most 4x4 offroad campers that takes boats have a hitch mount setup that sits a tinny ontop of the camper.

As for the suspension. Well when offroading the trailer tends to bounce around more so than the tow vehicle on rutted tracks. So a full on suspension is necessary if you don't want your camper shaking to pieces.

Build an old school bus/motorhome and tow a small zook behind it. Or chuck a few scooters inside the bus for getting around.

  2. Does it run better once it cools? (Or sits for a bit?)

Have a good look at the spark plug ceramics for cracks.

Is there any oil or oily film around the plug area? If so clean it with some brake cleaner etc and ssee. Sometimes the spark can track thru to block via oil residue etc.

Make sure its not to oily inside dizzy to seen an oily dizzy track spark back to itself too.

  3. Well now ya mention it.....

Few bags of dry ice in the floor wells and let it sit.

The sealer and glue etc goes super hard and brittle. So pair safety glasses and a welders flux chipping hammer and good wire brush.

that legs gonna feel worse before it feels any better mate.

never have a fight with a power tool they always win lol.

  4. So is the little 'goon getting a paint job or is it being left missmatched?

You could do a full on "fake" patina paint job. Seen a few of them. Some look rubbish and some look pretty awesome.

I saw a few pics of a car that had a fake patina paint job. Had a different colour door that was neant to have been from an old sales rep type car etc. And even a few panel shop paint blend /repairs added for effect. And some fake surface rust stains etc.

He even had repo bumpers made and then patina'd them. A tad over board but it did look really cool.

And knowing there's no rust at all underneath is a good thing.

  5. Nah bugger all HB's most got turned into spare rust repairs for lc/lj or dirt circuit or drag cars.

Cant recall exactly but i think there were only ever 30,000 or so made over the 3 year period.

And 4 door HB's the rarer as only made very late '68 to '69.

I think it was something like 10,000 or so built from import fron uk and about 20,000 actually made from scratch in Aust.

I guess you get used to what you have grown up with.

I prefer the round headlights. As the square remind me to much of the later UC (Ugly Car lol)

  6. Sounds like the same setup the hb toranas have.

Lift and push up next to 1st.

Almost take the windscreen out when the stick lets go lol.

Luckily never had a passenger when it did hahaha. Id probably be done for some sort of domestic violence and assualt with a deadly car part haha.

Never understood why a gearstick needed a rubber insulator in the stick???

  7. Ha! Nah has an issue somewhere. Tried 2 new clutches and 2 different flywheels. Etc.

But keeps doing it. The sh#tbox one drives fine apart from you have to physically hold it into 2nd gear or it pops out to neutral. ....

So im guessing its either a box issue or in the engine? But gave up trying to figure it out. Just drop it into 2nd and lope along then have to throw it back to 1st to take off etc.

I swear my cordless drill has more torque than these engines hahaha.

  8. Nope not enough room for a holden 6... have to chop firewall unfortunately. ....

A buick, or ecotec v6 should fit easy enough.

    Or many other 4cyl engines..

ive been umming and rrrrring about a lil turbo 1.9L ive got sitting in the corner.

not the biggest powerhouse still compared to some the new NA jap 4 cylinders. But still has a bit of old schoolness to it.

your worried about your engine setup.... lol.

i drove an 1156cc AUTO as my daily for years hahhaha. Was dead stock bar a datto 1200 carb. Used to go not to bad for what it was once you were going. (Acceleration wasn't its strong point lol)

  9. Very nicely done..

Ive always hated the top radiator hose setup etc...

So on one of my (super longtime lol) projects ive removed the radiator spacer? Mounts and fitted a much larger crossflow style radiator from some jap car? Im now looking into modifying the thermostat cover to be a bit more like a holden six and exit from side rather than top so i get a nicer hose angle from motor to radiator.

I also get a better sized radiator lol.

Its probably just going to look a tad odd with such a large gap between the radiator and engine.

Ive just told everyone its because ive set the engine further back for better handling. ... lmfao..

But seriously im starting to weigh up an engine swap anyway now due to an engine sitting here on the floor and an all to close at hand tape measure..... lol

  10. Replaced shiteloads of them all in millions of pieces.

So if driven sedately (or correctly?) They may hold up.

Get lairy on the throttle and pop!..

Its not the gears that go.

Its the pins. They crack and then slide out into the crown and pinion gear and then all hell breaks loose as it gets fired back into the spider gears or straight out the centre/housing.

If you stay stock diff keep a skinny (ish) tyre rim package and dont drop the clutch.

  11. Escort diffs are a fragile thing. Specially behind a manual when you give anysort of punishment. ...

Id start saving for a conversion and not spend to much time or $$$ on a std escort diff.

Also if you weld the diff the axles are pretty weak so they will probably let go.

Not to mention a locked diff will totally change a cars handling characteristics. Its also a pain when parking. And can draw unwanted police attention as it hops and skips/chirps its tyres around corners. Low speed in carparks etc is the worst.
