  1. When I was driving the fastest car on earth AKA (Rental car), Near Dubbo I ran over a snake(likely a King Brown), that was around 3m or 10ft and had a near miss with a dragon which decided to sun itself in the left lane near a Dam we were going to look at then move just as I was about to go around it.

After the snake incident I looked back but I couldn't see it which in Oz throws a warning flag, so when we stopped I leapt out of door as far away as I could from the car and carefully searched it as they have been known to flick up and stay there until car stops.

  2. I had a car that had a paper cert done by a garage that is long gone, I rang Wellington and they advised it was not on record and that I send it to them so they can update their records. Is this still accepted these days or not as I thought at the time it could be made on any computer these days.

BTW the cert was nothing more than a minor engine swap and was a bolt in swap however I changed it from carb to injection as the induction was not mentioned and the engine used came out with both.

  3. Re-ring only if required, I was a motorcycle courier in Sydney in the 80's (no restriction where I went), and my clutch wore out at 55,000kms on my Honda 250RS single so parked outside the bike wrecker one morning removed the complete engine and swapped for a low k one and it took me a week to get it revving past the redline in top like the old one, factory max speed was 146km/h but my max was 166km/h.

Here i am radio on back, speaker and mic on handlebars, map book of sydney on tank and my locking paniers

    It has returned home :)

That messy business around the reg/rec could be the cause of rough idle.
I mean.. I could very well be the carb full of gunk which as youve mentioned, a ultrasonic cleaner should sort that out.

Hand brake will have a switch by the lever, just make sure it's A connected and B actually popping in and out.. Often the little tab snaps off.
As someone has mentioned, it's probably a faulty switch but check the basics first just in case.

If it's been left out in the rain, I have found that water tends to sit around the spark plug area and this will cause corrosion on the copper wire going from the coil to the spark plug.
Whip the spark plug cap off (twist it anti clockwise), cut off around 2cm of the wire and then twist the cap back on. It may not be the cause of a bad idle but good to give it clean up/new lease on life

ahh i do miss playing with GNs, such a simple bike

I was able to fix everything this morning, The idle and hard starting was carb and the soaking and vibration sorted it. The brake light was one of the 3 wires under the seat. The blinker was broken wire and bulb. So all in all it was fairly straight forward.

The oil looks fresh and it has 12,000kms on the clock which the way the engine sounds is probably all it's done. Most likely still the original front tire.

  5. Everything SORTED - Ready for vtnz, thanks for the help offer

I soaked the carb for several hours then washed it out with water and have just got it back on and it starts easier and now idles sweet.

I took it for a 100 yard test and rides and runs perfect

Front brake is powerful enough and no unusual noises coming from the engine or drivetrain, all 4 indicators now work after tightening one, soldering the wire and replacing the bulb. Hi/Low beam working good.

I have treated the bare metal with rust treatment where the littles dents in the tank had flaked some paint.

LOL, Funny... BTW I was told some advice when I was young about sneaking in the house trying not to get noticed when I got home pissed from the pool playing night, Don't sneak, you should bang crash curse and swear stamp ya feet then jump into bed and she will never even lift her head!

What model carb is on there

I have like 6 dr200 Japan mikunis, from they look like what I remember being on my 250. Can pick a good one out and post it for less than a China carb if suitable. Can rejet it for you if needed.

The China carb I got to test on my gn125 was.... Ok.

Carb needle was very different and the jets were a little out and not marked with a size, but it would get you going.

Otherwise clean the one out you have real well

its a 32mm, I am thinking of making an unltrasonic cleaner using a 10litre plastic paint container and my vibrating sander and see if a couple of hours can clean it out.

The only difference with Alicarb is the cable mounts to the back of the butterfly so opens the opposite way, maybe a later version or US version as I have seen them online in searches

  9. Just got myself a 2003 GN250 and wondering what the 3 Yellow wires that go into a connector go to, as you can see they are a bit of a stew as they are shorting out.

Any wiring diagram or a workshop manual would be great, I don't mind buying a manual as my hand brake isn't activating the brake light yet foot brake does.

  10. I finally found myself an affordable GN250 for a project, it's actually in pretty good nick and someone obviously gave up on it.

So jumpered the battery which is holding voltage now and stabbed the started thinking how many clunks and clangs is it going to make but got a very pleasant surprise as it turned over freely but didn't fire.

Ok I thought can only be spark or fuel so pulled the plug out which was brand new and it had nice blue spark so dumped some fuel down the hole and had another go after putting plug back in and vroom started almost immediately.

Great found the issue so pulled the carb off and the main was completed blocked and the float was seized. The idle was ok so used some carb cleaner and small jet files and cleaned it out put it back together and it runs ok with a bit of throttle but rough idle and will stall. then while I had the seat off noticed some smoke coming from a connection.

The nolex connector was basically welded together so after destroying it to find the wires a bit messy but an easy enough thing to fix.

All in all maybe at worse a replacement carb but I will soak it in CLR for a while like I have done in the past and blow them out with air, and a replacement nolex connector.

It has a few scapes and the tank has a couple of dings, one side cover was sellotaped on and i need a new rear indicater and it should be ready for taking through to get reregistered.

That hawk would be me.... Hit by a truck in Nelson bounced and ended up in grill of my Mercedes sprinter. Only noticed it filling up in putaruru walking back to van it survived and sat on my passenger seat remainder trip to Auckland where i dropped at bird rescue.

Damn lucky buggar, the one I hit, although I didn't notice it as it was out of my mirrors, was jammed on some specialised arms and it wasn't until I had got to timaru just before I fueled up that I noticed it in the shadow of the truck, I think I hit it somewhere around Balclutha but when I went over about 50km/h it's wing would pop out and then as i slowed it would fold back.

Had a good photo of my screen and jacket after going through fireflies in the states

I guess they were showing the way?

I did well over 1kk kms in trucks for 1 company and hit many odd things but, I heard of a person trying to extract a live hawk while it was fighting back.

  13. What the hell was gong on south of Nelson last night I went into an area north of the Hope saddle and the bugs were swarming and it went from a couple or 3 splatters to hundreds.

I stopped a couple of times and washed the screen by hand and when I checked it this morning the wasps and flies were having a free feast, the wasps were taking any body parts they could away with with them after so this would have looked quite a bit worse.

Being a Nissan Bus/Motorhome it was like a giant fly swat and as cars came towards me in the distant there was a haze of insects.
