Churs to Ethan for the use of the crane and to Daryl for the know how.
Here's a wee time-lapse feat. a lot of mucking around by the FL hub.
Now what to do with a car sans engine...

Finally have some time off uni to give Maggie the love and attention she deserves.
Took here to her first monthly meet which was a cool time, but now she's off the road again to get her engine overhauled.
Haven't fully decided the extent to which we are going to refurb it but given it's mainly an educational exercise it won't be a biggy.
At the moment the list is:
- Main engine seal
- New clutch
- Valve seats hardened (anyone done this?)
- New water pump
- Fresh coat of paint (engine and bay)
- New gaskets/seals/some hoses
Got her into hover mode and started pulling it all out.
Will hopefully borrow an engine crane and get it out in the next week.
Chur for looking, more to come.

wheels look rad! are you gunna paint the flares or leave em as is?
Thanks dude! They are pretty manky so will definitely paint them. Originally were gonna match them to the car but the white is kinda starting to grow on us..
We are just about to finish exams so should get some more work done over the next few weeks.

Little bit of tech support required...
Which twin SU carbs will fit Maggie?
Do they have to be from a 1300 engine?
Cheers

I don't suppose you're wanting to get rid of the twin carbs ???

Thanks. I found that wheel (and a second one the same at the same time) on trademe. Score of the century if you ask me. But it's not in this car anymore
Do you still have one?/Willing to sell it?!

Awesome car man! Where did you get your Nardi wheel?

Went for an evening cruise up One Tree Hill and back last night. Car drove like a champ - she loves hooning around the back streets.
A chauffeur driving a pristine white wedding Rolls Royce even stopped to point Maggie out to the bride to be.
Here's some eye candy to keep the thread alive.

Maggie got a WoF!!!
What a way to start a new page!
Never been so happy about a stupid little sticker.
Picked the door up from the panel beaters and drove straight to the WoF place. Next stop - The Beach Hop.

You may remember we were having issues with brake fluid leaking down the brake pedal and this recently got a ton worse.. resulting in damp carpet and a lot of worrying.
We quickly got a new brake cylinder from the guys at Minibitz and swapped that in (a very satisfying little job).
Luckily when we pulled up the carpet, the underlay had taken all of the brunt so the floorpan was completely fine. The carpet might still have a bit in it but should it be ok to let it dry and leave it (we've heard mixed things about whether brake fluid attacks metal or not)?
We dropped the door off at the panel beater to get welded up so will pick that up tomorrow and visit our good friends at the wof shop for our monthly meet up.
Had some fun driving from mine to Sammy1222's with no door - pretty breezy inside.
Looking good for beach hop this weekend, planning on taking the Waihi road from Auckland to avoid the big hills - what's the traffic normally like that way?

Tried for a Wof for the third time this afternoon and came soooooooo close to getting it.
Everything we were worried about - the rims/flares, the bearing, cv boots - passed with flying colours.
They pulled us up because one of the rear right door hinges has detached from the door, it cracked next to the weld and is floating.
We hardly use the back doors so were pretty surprised.
Should be a quick trip to the panel beaters.
LEFT photo is what it should look like, RIGHT photo is what it does look like.

Anyone have any suggestions for fair WoFs in central Auckland?

Bad luck about the flares! Does sound like BS considering so many cars like Mins run them as you said..
Anything else it fail on?
More than welcome to come use my pump again to put both sides up to sky scraper height.
Also seeing as my car isn't going anywhere soon you can put my steelies for a wof if you want, nearly new tires on them.
Nah the guy just took one look at the wheels and said they're a bit too wide, so we didn't technically 'fail' i guess, more just 'DNF'.
Yea might definitely take you up on one of those offers!
Will let you know what we decide

Wah wah, we hadn't even finished filling in the wof form and Maggie had already failed.
Apparently the tread has to be completely under the bodywork, making our flares completely redundant.
If she'd come with bolt on flares from the factory they would have passed no worries, even if we'd swapped them to aftermarket ones ourselves - seems a bit backwards to me.
Our options at this point are...
- Cross our fingers and take her somewhere else.
- Pump the suspension up so much that you can hardly see the poke and take her somewhere else.
- Get some fresh tires for the old steelies and put those on every time we go for a wof. $$
- Get the new wheels/flares certed. $$$
Does anyone have any experience with bolt on flares? Lots of minis seem to have them?
In other news, GuyWithAviators kindly helped us pump up the left side suspension with his nifty pump so we now can get in and out of the garage! Cheers Andrew.
We drove it home like this - at least Sammy1222 had a floaty ride.
Temp sat at the high end of normal all the way (as usual).
We evened up the suspension when we got her home, sitting perfectly now.
So yea next step is to sort this wof situation out, then swap out the clutch and beach hop here we come.- 4

Here's a quick mock up of them painted the same colour as the car, they blend in much better. Just have to endure them until they get sprayed (or wrapped).

should check how.much a wrap would be instead of repaint. Think im going to do that with my van
That's a good point actually, any idea if custom colour wraps are ridiculously expensive?
