  1. Little update and to leave some info for other BMC pepz.

Realised we were sold the wrong water temp sensor - we received a GTR-104 rather than a GTR-101.

So the resistance at normal operating temp was lower than the old sensor - making the gauge read H constantly.

Instead of trying to find a matching sensor for our gauge we decided to get a whole new gauge/sensor combo to rule out any inaccuracies. This went according to plan except that we had to turn off the thread of the new sensor and re thread it to 5/8 UNF.

Feels awesome to drive - much more go without the clutch being caked in oil.

WoF and rego this weekend and then we can lay out a plan of attack for the next wee while.

  2. Back wheel is fine - looks like the same fitment we had.

I recommend this site for choosing tire sizing - try to aim for the outer diameter of the tire to be the same as stock.

We used some $90 165/60/R14s and they were pretty marginal as to whether we needed flares or not - if you pump up the suspension and find a nice wof guy you should be fine.

Will look sick if you can get it fitting right!

  3. Got her running last night.

Took a while and we had to siphon some fuel back up the line because the pump wasn't coping with the air in the system, we reset the timing and did the valve clearances (roughly for now) and away she went. Still have to pop the hubs back together and give it a tune but after that should be good to go!

  4. Got a second opinion on the hole that needed plugging and now we have a plugged hole (who knows what issues this might solve/prevent).

Deep into exams at the moment but the list is getting pretty short:

    • Head back on
    • Engine mounts
    • Clutch
    • Gaskets etc
    • Oil filter

Then back in the hole. Got a spot of rust that'll we'll have to attend to before WoF but trying not to think about that at this stage.

  5. Trying to upload another post on my thread but I can't seem to upload anymore than two photos because the image size is too large. What am I doing wrong here?

The best way to do it is upload the photos to another website (i recommend imgur or flickr) then get the BB code links and paste them into your reply - let me know if you need more info. Sick car man.

  6. Gave the engine a good cleaning and attacked various parts with a wire wheel.

Started painting, going with a nice BRG for the rocker cover (see below), silver for the box, diff and bell housing, and black for the block and head.

Quick question - we're pretty sure the bell housing is aluminium? And we wire wheeled it back to bare metal.. Do we have to use a special primer to stop corrosion or is a normal engine primer fine?
