  1. what sort of pressure do you need?

I would lean toward an electric power steer pump also. They can pump into the 1000's of psi, and move a decent volume.

The MR2 one is ok, or the opel/astra one is better

you wouldn't have to pump the fluid back into the reservoir when parked, just open the solenoid back to the tank and let the weight of the car push the oil back into the tank.

Only up to 300psi. Sounds primo.

  2. My dream is to have the hydrolastic suspension in the 1300 run through a pump/reservoir system.

So i can run it high for day-to-day use, then park up and pump all the fluid into the reservoir to slam it.

    Is there such a pump - 12V 300PSI?

What sort of safety valves and shut offs will I need?

Haven't had much experience with hydraulics.

    Cheers

  3. Copied GWA and adapted the new, smaller rad to the old shroud/mounts. Turned up a couple of spacers to fill the gap.

Also gave the shroud a quick sandblast - ready for paint.

What do you guys think about...

    A. Leaving the OEM fan on and putting the new electric one on the other side VS removing the OEM fan?

    B. Swapping to a header tank/pressurised radiator system (like on a mini) VS keeping the current pressurised expansion chamber system?

    Discussion link in me sig.

  4. Picked up a new radiator from Redline so that'll be the final piece of the puzzle in the cooling system dilemma. Going to have to sort out some mounting brackets this week and decide whether to route the expansion chamber to the new spout (and get a flat cap for the radiator) or go with the pressurised cap that came with it and put a header tank next to the window washer fluid. Also got a screw on oil filter housing on the way so that should go in this week too.

  5. The fuel pump is on the engine and it might be having trouble sucking it all the way up from the tank. You can check by disconnecting the fuel line running into the carbs and aiming it into a bucket. Then crank the engine and see if its squirting. Also do the valve clearances (even just roughly if you don't have a feeler gauge). And definitely get a Haynes manual for it. Most worthwhile money you'll ever spend on the car.

  6. how's your fan set up?

was looking at pics including the one of the engine straigth out of the bay sitting on the pallet, then this one

when it was on the pallet the fan blade was on backwards, but this pic shows the fan fitted straight to the belt pulley, then the alloy spacer fitted over top, although this time the fan is fitted the correct 'way round' from what i remember..

you want the spacer to be on in between the pulley and the fan blade, and the fan should sit into the radiator shroud quite nicely.

Yea it's definitely on the correct way now, may have been wrong on the pallet and for the stand photo we just threw it on quickly for looks.

Nice work guys. Once I get a WOF we need to go for a drive!

Yeah dude definitely, I take it you can't make it to the meet tomorrow night then?

  7. Went for a nice long drive out to Takanini and back tonight to see how she's running. All was going great (no overheating, sitting nicely at 90-100kph etc) until we got back to the garage and noticed an unhealthy amount of oil coming from the oil filter housing. Followed the trail back for about a k or so before giving up - luckily there was still a bit in the engine... Looks like its just the oil filter seal thingy so we will fiddle with/re-tighten that and that should be that. Made a right mess of our previously pristine motor though - shit happens.
