I replaced my 30 watt/840 tubes with 865's. Night and day! My understanding is 840 is a colour temperature of 4000k and 865s are 6500k. I have 4 doubles in my 12x9 shed and it's plenty bright for most stuff.

Working in a wrecking yard I know that the YD25 engines go boom often. (timing chain issues) Other than that they seen pretty good.
Known also for throwing a rod from time to time.
Other than that they are as ugly as sin.

How well does a lucas system react to being bunged on a different engine? Can i change the injectors and rates without it being a major mess?
Injected flathead might be neat
Lucas injection systems have been used in racing applications on all sorts of engines including V8. Would be very hard (and expensive) to get hold of I would think.

Aaaah, so inspirational! Stopped dailying mine in 2008 due to ridiculous end float. Still haven't taken the motor out, so I cranked her up today. Primed the fuel pump, added battery and boom!
Yours looks good!

Got a V6 406 as a courtesy car for my work van (lol). Would have to agree, the car:money ratio is off the charts.
But OP said "reliable".

I have fond memories of Uncle's 6/110. He offered to give it to me in the 90's but I couldn't afford to get it from Dunners to Nelson back then. Mint cruiser.

The T5 motor is an all time classic motorcar engine. I too have had thoughts of transplanting one into a rwd body. I've owned 4 850 T5s and Rs and I just love em. Bulletproof and sound cool at idle and when given jandal. I endorse your plan. Good luck.

Wish that volvo had had lower ks , like the look of that alfa too Ned.
Those volvos are tough as nails. I reckon probably some of the best made eurotrash out there. There was a manual one for sale a few weeks ago (drooling). I'm a Volvo whore thoughthough, so don't take my advice

I did wonder about how much gas it would use

Oh cool, good to know. Thanks for that. Does anyone know anything about the 2.2l diesel?
Would be quite at home in a Massey Ferguson... Actually the 2.3 diesel is used in some International tractors...
So, noisy, slow, probably quite durable.

Modern Daily Guzzling Oil, NO leaks or smoke...
in Tech Talk
Posted
Hi guys, I'm stumped for ideas on this one. My daily is a 2005 Outback and it runs fine, has plenty of go, gets great fuel mileage etc. I am using a litre of oil every 600km or so.
I can tell you there is: No smoke from the exhaust, I can't even smell a light trace of oil burning with my nose right up the tailpipe (made sure no one was watching...)
It does not leak oil. The spark plugs are clean. The throttle body and all the hoses that plug into it and around it are clean.
Where the heck is all that oil going? Any ideas... cheers fellas
