  1. I went full Barry on the toolkit for my bike, everything here has earned it's place* I started with the cheapest tools money can buy and upgraded to better quality when something broke. Started with 1/4" ratchet, but ended up going 3/8. Also have a puncture repair kit/tube tyre irons, duct tape, hose clamps and an OBDII adapter stashed on the bike. A favourite tool is the long nose vise grips (doubles as clutch/brake/gear lever, nose picker)

  2. Edit: it's gone back to the dealer

Any transmission experts in the house? I picked up this 2009 Yaris last week. Didn't notice it on the test drive, but driving around since there's what I think is a diff whine on positive throttle. On trailing throttle it doesn't make the noise. Here's a video, noise starts at about 12 seconds in. According to Dr. Google it might be diff setup/wear on the driven side of the ring gear/preload kind of thing. According to Toyota the transmission case has been apart in the past. Can see black sealant and I think would have been red from the factory. What do you think? Is it grounds for a repair or should I crank up the sounds?

  3. Went for a stroll with the missus last night from our place in Newtown, down to Island Bay. There's at least one Echo/Vitz/Yaris parked every 500 meters between here and there. I wonder if it's a universal constant? Also, there's some Yarisess on my watch list now for some reason, I think you might have started something here @Roman

  4. This is what I have now, Heidi (original name for a Hilux). I think I payed $2800, but she was on the mainland so probably $3500 including getting her home. This one has full LCE exhaust with not enough in the muffling department, loud as fuck, and a weber. Still gutless, but maybe 15% less gutless than stock.

  5. Ahh Hiluxzz, yeah, a topic close to my heart. Here's the old girl I used to thrash, called her Fifi, maybe not the best name for the brute, but I could never love a thing called Bruce, which was probably more fitting. I picked her up for $3300, spend about $12K over the years, then sold her for $3500. That was a few years ago now. Last time I saw her trade hands on Trademe I think she went for $5k

New bike time! (Just a 'game')

You want a new bike. Criteria is as follows..

    - Must be post year 2000
    - Must have ABS brakes (front)
    - Must be under 5k (I'd accept something for 5800 ish cause can be talked down)
    - Must be 400cc plus

    Other key things to note..
Doesn't need to be LAMs approved. In fact, it's better if it's not.

    What would you get?

Depends on the style I guess:

Dual sport them: Versys 650, VStrom 650/1000, KLR 650 all achievable, not sure how many would have ABS, or BM-trouble-u for the euro lovers, probably have ABS, an F650GS?

Sports then: VTR1000, or a bandit 1200, there's an R1 on tards ATM for 5K, would take me straight to the scene of the accident in no time flat.

    Naked: maybe a Hornet 900

Tourers:.ST1100? They're comfy :), or VFR800 for single sided swingarm goodness.

I've got to say though it looks great but there's a dizzying array of options.

The dev board looks cool but doesnt quite do what I want, so next step designing my own PCB? eeekk

That might be a bridge too far for me at this stage.

Making your own PCB isn't too hard. With all the cheap fab houses around these days it's no big deal if you make the odd mistake or five. I made one for a project and only screwed up a dozen or so times ;)

I haven't heard anything from info@bluewing yet...not a great time of year, could easily be lost in the spam folder.

Yeah basically I'm doing a DIY eCub, I've been involved in ~10 small electric builds over the last 5 years so keen to get one of my own started.

They take their time. I emailed them on November 30, and just heard back today. I got the address from here.

Just emailed Bluewing this morning regarding my pair of CT90s. Planning on building an electric hub motor one limited to 50km/h* so I can get away with vintage moped rego.

Have you seen the Shanghai Customs eCub kits? A bit pricey but should be able to learn a few things from their kit.

I've just received a reply from Blue Wing today, with a letter about my CT90. I'm not sure what to do next, but it's a step in the right direction :)

  10. Thanks @kdotlowe messaged Bruce at Honda, we'll see how that goes. Hopefully that, along with a statutory declaration about how I purchased it, who I bought it of, maybe a declaration from him that he got it from a transfer station should do it. Have to do something 'cause the wife wants one now too. She wants one painted purple with a unicorn farting rainbows. I'm gonna maybe go for something a little more subtle for my own.

  11. Hey there misfits. Any re-reg experts in the house? I've heard a few different stories, last and maybe truest being a big fat 'No way!" from a guy at VINZ.

I've acquired a 1975 CT90 (mostly complete), from a guy who pulled it out of a skip. No plates, no record of it ever having been registered. Nice young lady at the cop shop searched all permutations of the frame and engine number and came up empty.

VINZ guy also searched in the computerator machine and came back with "It's never been registered, it can't be done."

Is this the truth? Anyone succeeded in doing the impossible?

    Cheers.
