Ibj's ?
-
no, i dont agree
btw, i like all rotary engines/cars not just one, even like piston cars too
i own, mazda 1300 4dr wagon, rx7 series 2, series 3 x3, rx7 series 4, rx7 s5 x4, rx7 s6, rx8 s1 x3, mazda 626, mazda 2
pretty logical to fix/upgrade parts you know can fix problems and stop premature wear on other parts too
its not major things as said, just normal things youd replace after a car hits 10 years etc
you dont have to, its just preventative maintenance etc
shall i start on a list of the problems with FB/FC/FD then ?
exactly the same, maybe different parts etc
why fit a battery with 400cca when you can upgrade it to a 600cca ?
save alot of problems etc
btw, my rx8 had 60,000mls on it, version 100 ignition coils, mazda ignition leads, N3H1 starter motor, factory battery terminals, did have an upgraded battery 540cca shitte quality though,
going well, starting well,
im preventative maintenance person, so i fitted, upgraded, battery terminals, battery, starter motor, ignition coils version 100 B, magnecor ignition leads
straight away, as didnt want problems or breakdowns etc
as to me, having problems, engine lights etc, cost money every time it happens, so towing fee, cost of diagnostics, parts, labour is costly
especially when its not fixed, just engine light dtc's erased and just got you going again etc
so i think its better to spend money on parts to prevent these problems happening, than wasting money getting car towed and looked at everytime, because havent done the upgrades
upgrades being done, is cheaper in short term and long term etc as you dont have to waste money on towing and engine lights, diagnostics, once there done etc
well if you use quality parts that is

only the series 2 has most of the upgrades from factory, they even need some upgrades too
so its irrelevant really,
all cars have factory problems, youd be scared at some of the things i can say about some manufacturers
its just part of the series 1, do the upgrades or have an engine repair in the future
even if you repair the engine, you still need to do the upgrades, otherwise it will just happen again etc
most of the upgrades are just normal parts being replaced anyways, ie battery and starter motor, most get replaced after 10 years etc anyways
so dont see a problem there etc
preventative maintenance is the key to any mechanical engine
-
whats wrong with 2003/2004 rx8's ?
i havent found anything wrong, except needing usual upgrades/modifications etc
yes like anything the newer the better, but i wouldnt avoid them, yes, know you may have an engine to repair etc

S2 is apparently the model to have as the oiling was sorted. Bloody Mazda you’d think they would have their shit together 34 years deep into production rotaries.
Don't knock the series 1 rx8, they are fantastic, both the 4-port and 6-port
No. You do not have to avoid the series 1, thats just shitte,
yes there are problems, as said, they need upgrades/modifications, so does the series 2, only a couple
ive done Rotorworks Automotive Garage upgrades/modifcations to my rx8,
13B 6-port/6 speed, bosch ignition coils, (even mazda ignition coils are great, version C/D,) magnecor r100/10mm leads, decatted the mid pipe, racing beat 3" single racing rear exhaust
goes awesome, better than any pre rx8 bridgeport etc
4-port, is down on power of course, needs modifications to be stronger, more reliable
series 1, N3H1/4-port/192PS - 5 speed manual
series 1, N3H3/6-port/231PS - 6 speed manual
oil injection, they both have x2 oil injectors in the rotor housing, they are at the sides instead of the middle
(the series 2 has x3 oil injectors per rotor housing, x1 middle, x2 sides, also has increased oil pressure and different oil pump)
it just means you add premix, (i dont in mine, then i use castrol edge 5W40 engine oil)
or when building an engine, use series 2 rotor housings, or machine middle oil injector into series 1 rotor housing
then link the 3rd injector to the oil lines, R.A.G mod, not perfect, works though i put one line to the middle injector, then split the other line to the outside injectors
if your just going n/a and not porting, then go for the 6-port if you want as much power stock etc
the 4-port is still good, not as good as the 6-port obviously etc lol
series 1,
exterior, you can get the mazda factory front spoiler/lip/air dam, half side skirts, rear bumper deflectors, front mudflaps, and they look very cool
series 2, just looks awesome from factory
ill pass on some upgrades/modifications from Rotorworks Automotive Garage
firstly, only use mazda or high quality parts, otherwise, it wont fix the problems, also cause problems,
use at least castrol magnatec 10W40 and mazda oil filter
i use castrol edge, fully synthetic 5W40 and mazda oil filter, even in nz
these are the common factory problems for series 1, some have had factory recalls etc to fix some of them, you need to check part numbers on mazda parts to know if they have been done or not
- ignition coils, upgrade to later version mazda ignition coils, version 100 C or 100 D,
100 B is ok too, versions 100 and 100A replace straight away, not worth hassle and problems they can cause etc
- battery, use at least 600cca 70 ah, ive used bosch or yuasa is great, which i use now as has highest specs, have cut holes in battery cover sides to increase airflow
as this kills batteries, ie not having airflow etc
- starter motor, mazda part numbers, at least N3Z1 13 tooth 2.0kw or N3R3 14 tooth 2.0kw the latest version, aftermarket cheap shitte is just that, will cause damage more than fix
- battery terminals, replace the factory terminals with aftermarket, use quality battery terminals, will help starting, running, all sort of electrical problems
- solid oil thermal pellet, a must, do not remove crankshaft pulley !!!! just the bolt when engine in place etc otherwise engine damage will occur
- oil pressure upgrade, racing beat do an increased oil pressure regulator
- catalytic convertor, faulty ignition coils will damage the cat, cause it to break, break up and block exhaust, can cause hard starting and lack of power
- ignition leads, factory mazda leads, tend to loose tension sparkplug end, come loose, also corrode
- sparkplugs, in uk, the ends can come loose and fall off, dont know if same in nz
recommend servicing every 6,000mls/10,000km or if high miler 3,000mls/5,000kms
there are other Rotorworks Automotive Garage upgrades/modifications, above will get you started keep you reliable and starting well etc
quickly,
N3H1/4-port/192PS, engine
has FC stationary gear bearings, so you need to 3 window or 7 window the bearings like FD
stationary gear, does not have the oil groove machined into the stationary gear, so machine the groove
or use N3H3/6-port/231PS stat gears and bearings etc
again, use higher oil pressure regulator,
good to go
you can also use the N3H3/6-port/231PS center plate in the N3H1/4-port/192PS engine, as the 6-port has bigger inlet/exhaust ports than the 4-port
2007/2008 is when mazda started doing the factory upgrades to fix previous year problems etc,
you can still make them better
i find mazda, genuine ignition coils, version C and D are fantastic, better than nay aftermarket ignition coil (even B are good)
even the GM D585 aftermarket cheap coils, are crap, the genuine GM coils are good,
id stick to mazda ones unless your going turbod etc
i fitted bosch, as i drive mine like its been stolen lol
beaware, there are mass amount of mazda ignition coils being sold as genuine mazda ignition coils, they are not, so becareful
cheap is cheap for a reason, buy from a recommended dealer etc

6-port 6speed are the best
there not as bad. As made out.
series 1 need upgrades/modifications
then there great.

Curiosity, what do used 12AT engines go for ?
-
can you find any used 12AT complete engines for sale ?
id be trying to buy a 12AT engine, for to use to rebuild and keep your one in the car going
build the spare engine at your pace, or at least strip it and see what needs doing etc
me, 5k, would only spend to be keeping a car/engine original etc as an investment
then i suppose its cheap compared to some of the prices of the cars for sale lately lol
what is the purpose of the car/engine ? investment or just driver or for sale etc
-
ay caramba
-
They don't grow on trees lol

Throwing spanner in lol
If your not after to keep original etc
Machine down some 13B housings.
I'd thought $500 each was a pretty good price for new 12AT housings.

^^^ i dont like the front guards flared either, especially when the rears arent done the same etc
these high priced rx's,
to me, its amazing how many have alot of little things needing done to them
ie 808 coupe, being picky for $45k ? i think not, some may
no radio top strut mounts cracked, center console arm pad missing, heater radiator not connected
back parcel shelf missing trim
thats just what i can see from the pictures
id thought for $45k it would be near 100%
id love to own it, its very nice example, love the colour, love 12A nosecone and especially the savanna front lower lip/spoiler ftw
