Did they make a LHD Torana, or is it off an equivalent Opel?
As the Torana rack is front steer (i.e. mounted in front of the wheels with the steering arms facing forward), a LHD front steer rack will become a RHD rear steer rack when it is mounted behind the wheels with the steering arms facing backwards (like a Mini), so it could be useful for a "rear steer" hot rod or sportscar.

Not sure all NTNZ people are up to speed with rego'ing a car with black plates, they wouldn't let me do it. Oh well... white plates it is.
iirc there is someone (Tanya?) you have to speak to at NZTA to use your black plates...

What are the usual rust spots on these? A pillar and firewall? Do Chevettes rust in the same places?
What's the plan? Keep it standard, or tweak it up a bit?

Visited a farm in the weekend - they seemed to like Internationals
And something not International?
Flathead Ford V8? International Harvester did make V8 engines, but not a flathead afaik.

Been trying to work out what country Rookie is in, but can't think of any that fit the description.

Always thought the Avenger Alpine was a good looking car, and Noddy Murdoch's went like stink.

Yes but the RS3100 and 2600 are rarer and have motorsport pedigree. Hence my prediction.
Will be interesting to see what the next RS sells for - wonder when the last one was auctioned and what it sold for? Latest ones I could find were 2013 - RS2600 for $56k https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21284/lot/7/ and RS3100 for $70k http://www.cotswoldclassiccar.com/classic-cars-for-sale/ford-capri-mk1-rs3100.php

After all this I think I need to concentrate on improving the handling of this thing. Shakes like a haunted shithouse around 96km & 104km.. very annoying, I'm assuming it's suspension rubbers as they all look as though they're original 1974 vintage. I balanced the front wheels yesterday & one of them was out a heap (maybe buckled rim), but I don't like the slotted stud pattern of them either as they're relying on being centered off the hub - that can't be super reliable.
Must think it's the Trans Am from Shaker Run http://www.nzonscreen.com/title/shaker-run-1985 (heaps of old school cars in that clip ).

Of all the Capri models to get 6 figures I would not have predicted a Brooklands.
RS3100 and 2600's are in that ball park now. At least they are RS models.
The Brooklands was the final Capri, according to wiki
The last run limited edition "Brooklands" Green, 280 model, featuring a limited slip differential, full leather Recaro interior and 15 inch versions of the seven spoke 13 inch wheels fitted to the superseded Capri Injection Special. Ford originally intended to make 500 turbo charged vehicles (by Turbo Technics) complete with gold alloy wheels and name it the Capri 500 but a change of production planning meant a name change to Capri 280 as the cars were simply the last models that ran down the production line. A total of 1,038 Capri 280s were built. The last Capri was made on 19 December 1986.

http://www.driven.co.nz/reviews/classic-cars/the-114-000-classic-ford-capri/
A Capri 280 'Brooklands' sold at the Race Retro Classic Car sale for a world record NZ$113,703, smashing its original estimate of about NZ$80,000. The near-showroom fresh Capri 280 'Brooklands' had covered just 936 miles since it rolled off the production line nearly three decades ago, and was snapped up by one very happy fan at a Silverstone auction last month.
Among other fast Fords snapped up was a 1972 Ford Escort Mexico, selling for NZ$92,367, more than NZ$33,700 above its lower estimate.

Nice ride , one of the handful of US cars I really like. Personally, I'd keep it as original as possible, but I like your "period" mods.

Donald John McLean was convicted on a charge of sustained loss of traction in the Dunedin District Court last year, and later sentenced to 70 hours community work, and disqualified from driving for a year.
On September 18, Judge Michael Turner ordered the confiscation of his car, a 1972 Ford GT.
McLean, who could not be reached for comment, estimated the car to be valued between $40,000-$100,000
In the absence of extreme hardship to McLean, or undue hardship to any other person, the Judge was required to order the confiscation of McLean's motor vehicle.
What other traffic offences can lead to the confiscation of your car?

It has to do when they were first registered. Most of the time there wasn't an option for 'coupe' which is why they just ticked sedan.
It really is that simple.
Quite right, paper form filled out by hand in the pre-computer days (iirc computerised early '90s?), only had boxes for saloon, station wagon, convertible and sports car (and van, utility, truck, bus, tractor, etc). Also why chassis and engine numbers often make no sense (unless you try all the permutations of "5", "S", "0", "O", etc), especially when often only the last digits were written down.
My Coupe is a "saloon", but have seen others as "sports car" and another as a "convertible" (could be a pucka Mumford conversion).

Mustang could be considered a close guess depending on how you look at it.
XR-XY Falcon?

Silver would be a lot easier - I think black shows imperfections more and you'd have to live with a mismatching engine bay etc.
They make generic hood scoops of similar shape to the Colt Turbo ones. If you could make up some louvres somehow to sit in front of the recessed mesh, nobody would know the difference.

or cheaper from multiple sellers on Australian Ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Silver-Car-decorative-Air-Flow-Intake-Scoop-Turbo-Bonnet-Vent-Cover-hood-/281875820512?hash=item41a11bafe0:g:X9cAAOSw8-tWYk6i
Didn't Todds fit the same (or very similar) scoop to the turbo Tredia and Cordia?
Must be very few of the Mirage Panthers left in original unmolested condition, would be cool to see it left standard.

Dat mighty B-series motor.
Did they ever sell the English ones here? or would Mr. Smith needed to have ordered one in?
English TC sold to order afaik.

Riley just posted this on flickr, I thought Vincenzo might like it.
1972 Mitsubishi Galant 16L by Riley, on Flickr
My younger sister had one of those as her first car back in the '80s. Not a bad wee motor.

Spotted this swoon-worthy Marina TC in Tauranga last month:
Love the colour and the wavy TC spec steels. But then I am a bit weird. Was even parked in promotional photo pose, the mucky thing.
The colour is called "Citron", and it's the only English TC Coupe I've seen locally. Carjam suggests it was off the road between 2000 and 2013.

Anyone else ever noticed that the left rear door always starts to rust before the other doors on these? I've seen so many that are pretty good apart from the left rear door. Lines of them in the wreckers all good except for the door I want.
Possibly because it's on the kerbside, so the water runs that way, and the mud splatter more likely to block the drain holes? Everything with an Austin or Morris badge leaked water somewhere (and often in strange places) - my '67 Mini and '73 Marina did.
