While visiting my Dad's cousin's place had a look around his place, saw these:
Chrysler New Yorker
A very sad looking Karmann Ghia
An out of place Beetle
Some sort of Austin Truck. Never been registered for the road
And in the shed was a Ford Ranchero ute and an International Scout. Very jealous haha
Also spotted in town today
A 1970's Merc. Very clean looking
-
I've ignored you completely...
Hahaha you made my night. Definitely going for your one
-
Very cool And working on the hood scoop for the gem, cant find a suitable donor hood
Love it! Cheers. Time to start saving for whitewalls
-
I like black, but that's just me.
Wow that's awesome, cheers man. Gives me something to think about.
black wheels with whitewalls?
Hey now that's an idea
-
What colours did you want to try out, broskimo?
White, like the body, silver or grey kind of thing and then blue?
-
Does someone feel like making the wheels on this (not hubcaps) a different colour? White and then anything else that looks okay?
And also if possible matching the colour of the back door to the front
Cheers

and
Also,
Are the photos working now?
-
host the photos somewhere else, that site seems to be shit
Yeah I'll chuck them on Flickr tomorrow and change the links. Cheers for letting me know.
Also the best way for stereo I've found is to put some 6x9's in the boxes you can get from Repco etc and put them under the front seats facing forwards - they fit perfectly and the sound bounces off the firewall giving you surprisingly good staging.
Chuck the amp under the rear seat or in the boot - I had the amp attached to the side of a sub box and it was in the boot.
Sweet, good ideas. I might start putting it all in soon. Just below the doors on each side is a channel with a hole on each end, looks like a perfect place to run some power and speaker cables
-
Yeah cars like that are cool, this one had the service booklet in the glove box. Looks like it was a rental for a few months then owned by an old lady for 25 odd years in blenheim before changing owners down here for a few years.
Manual, I've only seen one auto and that was a Wolseley 1100
Will try fix photos later

Wassup
When I got the car the guys who owned it before me had put an 1100 head on it which didn't work too well.
The next thing I did was get the proper 1300 head reconditioned and new valve seats inserted.
Old 1100 head compared to reconditioned 1300. I think you can tell which one works better
Close up
Headless! This was just before it got cleaned up and brand new gaskets etc were put on
Before rocker cover went on - looks good. Chose a black paint over the green I think it would have been from factory
The other job done was try and pump the suspension up a bit. Gee it takes ages with just a modified grease gun!
Dad taking over so I could take some pictures. Only one side had been done in these photos
Gotta love hydrolastic!
Bit lopsided
The next thing to think about is some sounds for it. I know these speakers look a bit modern for the car but I plan to run an amp under the seat with an iPod, 6.5"s and tweeters hidden in the dash, 6x9"s under the back seats and sub and separate amp in a suitcase in the boot.
Has anyone done anything like this? Any suggestions for it?
Big thanks to 4AG_Addict for the above speakers
Last picture - taking advantage of the limited time I was aloud to have it in the garage and playing around with my fish-eye lens. I like photography
Thanks for reading.

G'day everyone, thought I'd start a thread for my car as I start to make some bigger changes to it.
Little bit of information about me, I'm 15 - turning 16 in January so I can't even (legally) drive my car yet, which sucks
I don't have a job but trust me I'm trying, thanks Dad for funding my project and one day, hopefully soon, I'll pay you back!
Anyway, the reason you all clicked on this, the car, In August I bought a 1974 Austin 1300 MK III from a group of boy racer wannabees.
I paid $500, it had no wof and the reg had just run out (now on hold)
My plans for it are to get everything working again for January when I get my license and add a few period items along
Also when I can find one and have the money, twin carbs!
The car as soon as it'd been towed home. The idiots had let the suspension down which does look pretty sweet, but was ruining the underside of the car and fairly sure that one of the rear displacers is torn. Maybe one day I'll make something up so it can be permanently this low
Few of the bad points: They said it was overheating and they had tried to put another head on it - turns out it was an 1100 head so didn't work too well. Luckily they still had the 1300 head in the boot.
The interior is in a bit of a bad state.
Now pictures
Engine the day I got it, after about an hour helping my Dad we had it running, roughly but enough to move it up the driveway
Front
Interior, dash starting to deteriorate, carpets stained and faded (I have dyed them back to blue), small hole in headlining, drivers seat ripped and steering wheel center cracked
First thing I did after this was get rid of the twink and gave it a wash
Most major bit of rust, in the footwell kick panel.
I will try and update this regularly, have done a couple of major things in the space between August and now but those are for another post

Tell me what I'm doing wrong here and any suggestions you may have

Thanks

Looks like they did the old ball point pen lowering job ^
They did, riding on bump stops. Absolutely destroyed the underside and ripped a rear displacer apart.
-
slammed land crab.. see how the plate is bent outwards
Saw it on side of road.. had to do a u turn and photograph
That's my car! This can't have been taken long before I rescued bought it off the idiots that owned it

I knew one of the rear displacers had a hole in it because one side of the car was slooooooowly lowering itself. Also my rear subframe was bent and cracked.
Picked this one up from one of two 1100's that were lined up to be crushed by tanks
They were pretty rusty though. Also grabbed a few bits of trim and what looked like new door rubbers.
Half stripped
Picked up a new-old stock complete rear suspension bearing kit off Trademe - such a random thing to find!
Taking old bearing stuff out. Had to go buy a bearing puller - the crowbar didn't work
Old compared to new one. Shows how little the bearing moved making the grooves over nearly 40 years. Weird
Recon subframe being put together. Chuck it in the car this weekend
Painted the displacer red so it goes faster.
One of the guys on the photoshop thread did this for me Cheeeeers
I like the white or blue - matches the interior. What do you guys think? Once I can afford it I'd like to paint my wheels.
Which by the way being a high school student with no job will take a long time - so if anyone in the chch/kaiapoi area needs any work done, let me know
Sweeping workshops, mowing lawns, cleaning your car etc.
Cheers
