Bear in mind 351w is wider than 289 or 302 due to taller block

C4 might suck with a skyline diff ratio...  r200 should be plenty strong enough, just might not be able to get a ratio suitable to get rpm in top gear to a comfortable amount

You'd be right about the ratio actually...  The highest ratios available I think is 4.9 so that will blow big time...

DKM fabrication do some serious swaps and can organize a cert' too.  But if you get really 'involved' builds with exotic parts the price can go up steeply.

Thanks - nah, I'm just trying to make a lazy cruiser out of it. Probably R200 diff is already marginal for 351 anyway.

Why are you going with a Windsor....more narrow?

Yeah, that's it - did a quick research and seems Windsor is the narrowest by far. Parts availability wise, Windsor seems better than Cleveland, at least ex-USA (don't know about Aussie).

Not sure if sump position will work out but at least it's forward. SBC has rear sump and stupid rear dizzy. Mopar is not as common so bound to be more expensive.

So that's my reasoning for going with Windsor - oh and there are a few guys at work who have Windsor powered Fords...

What area are you in and how much do you want to spend? Do you have an engine?

I'm Hillsborough way but as long as it is within the greater Auckland region I'm not too bothered - the car needs to be transported anyway (probably the trickiest part is to get it out of the garage and and on a truck).

I don't have an engine yet but know a couple of people who are willing to part with - same with the gearbox.

As for the budget, I don't have any figure on my mind but I'm just after something that goes without problems not a race car or anything. So as little as possible but as much as it takes to build a solid and reliable swap. (ok that's not really a proper answer). I'll call up a few places once I get some recommendations, then either I can go ahead or save up some more. The car's been sitting for the past 3 years doing nothing, a little longer won't hurt.

    Cheers.

  4. Pulled the engine out of my R32 Skyline earlier in the year and haven't done anything about it.

I'm thinking of putting in 351W + C4 and I'm not particularly inclined to do the big jobs myself due to limited garage space and amongst other things. (excuses, excuses, eh)

I guess what I'm looking for is an outfit which can physically put together the chassis and the power train and probably take care of the certification side as well. (and maybe the exhaust fabrication). Then I can take the car back and sort out the rest.

    Cheers.

  5. whatever it is you are chroming (or any finish), it's gonna look shit if you don't polish to hell, chrome is the easy part. Conversely, if you polish well enough, it'll look like chrome even if it doesn't have anything on (if you have good eyes, you can see the kind of blueish finish, which would be chrome and yellow tinge which comes with nickel) - of course the shine won't last without plating or clear coat finish...

Not quite, if I fly Chc-Welly on an Airbus, I get security check.  Do the same trip on an ATR, nothing.

And thats why I always fly regional if I have the choice.

Ha ha yeah only if you got dodgy stuff on though - a lot of hassle hopping along small towns, e.g. AKL-TRG-CHC etc...

  7. Yeah it'll be international so I imagine things would be a bit tighter.

On a side note it's a small miracle there hasn't been any hijacking given there is no security check on regional flights. and now they are scrambling to get that it sorted even though 10+ years have passed since that Somali woman hijacking incident.

  8. So I've heard some crazy story that I can't carry carburettor when I'm flying - is there any truth to that?

I don't see why it would be an issue as long as it's dry - I even bought motorcycle gas tank on eBay and shipped over without a problem.

Those cars are disgustingly ugly. On par with AE82 liftbacks.

I remember one about 10 years ago doing drunken burnouts on the road in Aka Aka. Good times.

Ugly only when compared to sedans, yes.

I'm biased, my dad bought a new XA wagon painted the same Cosmic blue with ROH Dragmags. Impressed the other boys at intermediate school, even though it was a 200 with 3-on-the-tree.

Lol yeah three on the tree on these wasn't very good. I remember driving my mate's green sedan (I think it was 250) up Queen St 20 years ago...

  11. That XA coupe is siiiiiiiiick, even though I'm more of sedan fan (which is why I didn't do the swap for a black Landau 20 years ago... I'm a such a fool... :pukeleft:)

Oh it needs 12 slots to look the part IMO, not tridents...

although 4 doors are smart looking too

The ultimate would be 265 Hemi 6 pack (or 340 V8 - did they come with manual?)

    What about a 20B VH Charger? :)

My pick from Aussie Mopars is VF 2 door hardtop though.

Always thought p6s would look good as coupes and they're cheap enough to cut up and if your gonna go to the effort of a 2 door conversion might as well put a decent engine in as well.

Oh damn - P6! In my old age I'm getting things mixed up... I thought you meant P5 coupe, now that's more up my alley... But P6 is also cool.
