  1.  I messaged him a while ago and said if he got it wof/reg’d I’d buy it (not really, was just testing)

He said if did it the price would go up. I said I’m fine with that, but want to drive home legally.

    Never got back to me.

That’s why I am so sure it’s suspect. “Just needs a cert, but will never get one”

  2. There are a few sedans, not sure how many wagons.

As for that wagon above, I’ve always wondered why the guy doesn’t get it road legal.

There were rumours before he got it that all the fabrication of the firewall and trans tunnel would need certifications etc and that it would basically need to be stripped back to bare metal for that.

It was for sale for ages then old mate got it as a shop car, obviously pent a lot of money on it so why not finish it.

if it had a Wof, Reg surely at 60k it’s an okay spend.

@kiwi808 Whats the go with this for a single day visit? can you just rock up on the day and put your car in or do you have to pre register? Might come up for a day trip not sure yet

I don’t think you can enter for just a day. I think it’s a set up Friday take home Sunday night deal. But you could email them a check. They might have a day paddock?

It’s worth coming up for a day to check it out. There is so much to see and so many demos

  4. Buying cars as an investment seems like way more fun than buying shares. It’s why after the GFC classic car sales went up. People liked looking in the garage and seeing their investment as opposed to looking at a computer screen.

There have been lots of articles written about it too. Google is your friend.

The golden rule here is to buy something that will appeal to a wide market.

Rotaries are going up in value, but might not have the same appeal as a Holden, Valiant or Ford.

The market in NZ is much smaller, which I think makes it riskier.

A good clean FC might be a good buy. They are still under $50k. (Couple of okay ones for $35k but will require rebuilds as per standard rotary ownership)
Good clean Batty’s are $50k which is a big chunk of change.

  6. Not an expert here, but I get the feeling if you offer even a small token amount, even if just trying to be a GC, an adjudicator might see that as an admission of liability.

Id go with not paying unless a person with authority orders you to pay.

Even if you did cook it, and suspected you did, the new buyer is supposed to do their due diligence. If they didn’t have a pre purchase expectation done, then there is no proof it was cooked before he bought it.

You also have no idea what he did since purchasing or how it was treated.
