  1. Hi everyone.

I have just bought a 1995 Hilux Surf 3.0ltr Turbo Desiel and it doesn't currently have a turbo timer fitted.

So my question to the poeple who know is:

Does it need one? If it does what would be the best kind to get and where is the best place to get one from?

Oh, and are they easy to fit or do I need someone to fit it for me.

Sorry if these are all dumb questions but this is the first turbo vechicle I have bought..

  2. I hope you remembered to take a few pictures of the damage on your phone before you parted company!

I once 'bumped' a ladys car, appoligised, she said no worries, just cracked her rear light. Said I would pay for it and swapped numbers. Didn't her from her, than 2 months later I get called up to a small claims court to pay for the damage of her car. Wierd i though, I always have insurance, but the damage was so minor I would have just paid the $50 bucks or so to fix it.

Anyway, I get to court and the damage to her car is majour, like she had reversed into a pole (which she porbably did). She tried to make out like i had done all the damage etc, but i pulled out the pictures of the accident, and a copy of the police report i had made and pointed out to the the judgy dude what had happened. I was let off completely and she was given a serve by the Insurance guy that was there with her. Was told by him later that she would be charged with fraud.

Moral of the story is, ALWAYS get pictures!

  3. If you want a good WOF from a Good bunch of Blokes, Saunders Automotive on the North Shore (Gfield) will set you right and will clearly explain what your car would need (if anything). They are Mechanics and oldschool car fans (they have built a few Hot Rods) and Karl (foreman) used to work at Giltrap Holden and has an excellent reputation in the Holden community (his brother builds custom Harleys).

Took my Mazda in there when I first got it for a miliion point check over and they picked up on a few things I had missed. Good blokes and all speak English as a first language.

However, they are also sticklers for the rules, so wouldn't pass your car on anything dodgy, but would explain why it failed and how you could fix it.

But after all, who they hell would want a dodgy Wof anyway? It's your safety and they safety of other road users as well!

If you want a dodgy WOF try First Motors. They are famous on the shore for not caring and pretty much passing anything. They do not speak English though and my Chinesse isn't very good.

  4. Depends on what you mean. VTNZ have different laws for vehicle ages. They make allowances for my Morris Minor as they know the brakes sucked from the factory. They never give me grief about the seat belts in my Mazda (or lack of rear ones) as that's how they came from the factory. Same goes with the Holdem. So if your car is old but still road worthy any WOF place will be fine.

However if your car is old and rusty lowered on chopped springs than VTNZ isn't really the place to go.

So, what do you mean by going easy on your car? What concerns do you have? I know a couple of places on the Shore for WOFs.

  5. I may come to this. I don't know any of you guys but everyone has to start somewhere. No idea where this meeting spot is but I am sure I will find it.

Will be driving from the Shore...

Mate, this will be my first offical meet with these blokes too! If you meet up with us all at the Backyard Bar before hand with all the other Shorebased oldschoolers everything should work out just fine.

  6. They create more mayhem and confusion.

Wait, that's not an advantage is it....

Seems strange now, but trust me, you'll love it once everyone gets the hang of it.

I'd say around half the people I see on the road don't know the current rules. Nothing will change for them, they'll still just do whatever suits them. In the last 10+ years of driving I haven't yet had a problem getting my head around such a simple rule. What the rule is, is irrelevant. Some people just can't understand much.

Absolutely true. Today while out cruising a 'Classic Bad Driver Stereotype' nearly wiped me out because they were already using the new give way rules, or using the current give way rules from his native country, or just didn't know how to drive. Basically decided he didn't want to give way. And when I politely pointed out he was in the wrong he just ignored me and keep on and nearly hit me! I'm not usually a road rage kind of person, but I was sorely tested today..

  7. I lived in London for 10 years and I can honestly say that these new rules are WAY better. I think we are the only country in the world that gives way to the right.

Seems strange now, but trust me, you'll love it once everyone gets the hang of it.

  8. Things are really shaping up for the three at the moment. Have decided that I actually kinda really want it now so we are focussing on just getting it to the point of getting a WOF and rego and then we'll sort fixing up the hotwires and fancy stuff later on.

  9. I'm curious how using Datsun as a branding for econoshitboxes will effect the older Datsun market. I can only imagine detrimentally.

Hopefully not. Think of all the shit modern fords (like the ford Ka) that hasn't had the cool older ones worth any less.

Hopefully once a classic Datsun always a classic datsun. Although Datsun did make some shit cars too..

  10. Was gonna slide outta this one quietly as work is stacking up now

Can't turn down a cruise with some GC's before a Burger Meet with more GC's and Andy. :)

Onepoto it is. May have to change it in the future as its a right buggery to get to from the NorthSide.

Does suck if your coming from the bays. I usually get of at Smells Farm and go the back way past Northcote.

It the future we could probably all meet at the Back Yard Bar in Northcote (opposite the netball courts etc) as it is easy for everyone to get to and is a big car park?

  11. my plan is to spend a bit of time and elbow grease and shine/polish the cover up.

i found a pretty cool link somewhere on the internet, and it got me thinking.....

    DIY polish engine parts

While it is off you gotta polish that bad boy till it shines like a morror..

On your page you scanned it doesn't mention rocker cover bolts, just Cyclinder head bolts, so I'm guessing it's a no to torquing them on?

Perhaps do a before and after of the clean and polish, that stuff is always cool. 8)
