  1. Fords here seem to be a bit more pricey than Holdens, but obviously it all depends on the car. RWD Jap cars are awesome and there is loads of them here in NZ to choose from. Toyotas are the most common maybe (and maybe the cheapest??) but all older cars in NZ need to be checked over for rust. South Island cars seem to have less rust than North Island cars and Jeffs (one of many) car transporters will move any car around the country prices vary but wouldn't be more than $1k for a top to bottom move.

Ford Escorts are pretty cheap here in NZ, but that is for a basic one. We didn't get as many cool RS/Mexico's as in England. Cosworths are crazy money here so scrap that of the list. Other wise we have heaps of Capri's/Mini's/MG's etc.

If you do a trade me search for all vechicles between 1970-1980 there are about 1000 cars on there right now to choose from.

AND, if you find something, you can bet there will be people on here who will be willing to help with info etc to help.

  2. My favourite myth is people who think that their de-reg car with no paper work at all can still be easily put back on the road in NZ.

A de-reg car is always going to involve work to get it street legal, and the more paper work you get with it the better. But easy? NO!

  3. Also, remember that if Sate try to stuff you around (they will) and try and offer you anything less then your agreed value with the AA then instead of going to small claims etc, contact the Insurance Ombudsman. It is thier job to check out that you are not being ripped off and it won't cost you a cent if they look in to it for you. As I said, it's their job. Also State will freak at the word Ombudsman so mention it to them if the dick you around.

My dad is an Ombudsman (Chief Inspector - Crimes of Torture Act) and although he doesn't do insurance, if you really do get stuck then PM me and I can get dad to get one of his team to look into it for you.

Insurance should not be a hassle. Don't let it become one.

  4. They can do the tints in the carpark if you're stretched for time, but theyd prefer to do the work at their place in Sunnyvale (better light, cover from rain/dust etc). They work weekends too which is a bonus :)

$150 for a full car for us, if it's just the two windows it'll be cheaper (not sure if I'm reading it right, did you need the whole car done or just 2 windows?)

Where the hell is sunnyvale? I need one little quater window done on the Hilux surf. Whats the best way to contact them.

Don't really want to take the surf to and oldschool meet..

  5. Glad to hear this car doesn't have much rust. I lived in London for 10 years and there are a heap of stock 7's over there and I planned on bringing a couple back with me but never ever found one that wasn't rusted out in the floor/underneath. Salting the roads in winter just ruined them. Are you going to need a rust cert for the repairs that need doing? Again when I rang about this car they were a bit vague about the rust thing.

Anyway mate, it's a beautiful looking car and stock standard is the way to go too. Pretty sure I have some UK number plates in my garage too which would look sick when you display this (I'll go look through my number plate collection, they came off my old Ford Transit but no one will ever know..).

AND this car is red for the win.

  6. was talking about that rx3 thats on trademe with no paperwork, hence the winky face haha.

wheres the rust? usually easier to get the re-viner to look at the car and tell you what they will want a repair cert for.

Yeah I know, have that 3 on my watch list, not for a project but as a parts car, depending on price... The rust question is about a different car..

So with rust it IS better to show the vin person the car before getting the rust repaired then. Makes sense. :D

  7. Also, if a car has no plates tags anything what is the best way to check if it is stolen or not?

does that relate to what I think it relates to...

if the rust is structural it needs a repair cert.

Wouldn't want to chop up someones elses car. I had a 3 stolen just over 15 years ago now and I never got it back and it was never seen again. It was mint and I bet it got chopped up for parts. I always wonder about some of these cars that pop up with no history and long time in storage. How the hell am I to work out if they are stolen or not.. :(

Oh and thanks for the heads up about a repair cert for rust. Will have to look into this further. Cheers!

  8. So, whats the go with re-vinning a car that has rust? The car has plates/tags/paper work but has a bit of a rust in the usual places. Obviously the rust needs sorting but does it need a rust cert or some crap like that or is paperwork form an authorised panelbeater going to be o.k.?

Also, if a car has no plates tags anything what is the best way to check if it is stolen or not?

  9. Grant also shares his workshop with a bloke who works on/builds Hot Rods, so there is always something awesome to look at when you go in for a visit. Best part is he is always happy to do a job for someone and no job is too small. He is very reasonably priced too considering how awesome his work is.

As with everything, ring around, get some prices, and let us all know how you got on!

  10. have you looked into buying some lower springs? Chopped springs usually result in a slightly more bouncy ride and a WOF fail if they notice you have chopped them, and the will notice if you rock in for a WOF in a lowered car..

There are LEGAL ways of lowering cars and if you want to keep your car legit as you say, why not look into doing it properly?

  11. do you need the steel/stainless steel parts repaired then re-chromed or are you just looking for re-chroming?

if you need repairs done to trim work or bumpers/anything really go and see Peter at Jordan panel beaters - 3608428.

Peter is a master when it comes to repairing grills and trim work, hes been doing it for 40 years so he should know by now!

he isn't cheap but he is good.

    sheepers.

Hi mate, thanks for the heads up. I need them repaired (ie few small dents removed etc) just to make them look like new..
