Don't know about car regs but I've seen a bike frame which was dipped to remove powdercoat - and subsequently broke. Internal acid damage. I've been told at some point in the past that Motorsport NZ won't certify tubular rollcages which have been dip stripped No idea if that is still a current reg.
You can't get the shit out of the frame and for ever after the paint will come off around the seams, if you have it power coated after it will be a total mess

I have my car stripped down to a shell, and am considering chemical dipping to strip the paint and other matter. I have had a place in Rotorua recommended, but that would be a long haul from Auckland with a car trailer. Does anybody know of other shops around the north island that provide this kind of service?
Is that place in penrose still going?

It seems to be worse now, the sump plug was out last night and what I put in the oil tank went right through.
I will have to lift the engine out to clear the frame to get the pump out

Yeah think the evo pushrod has a rounded end the right size. Some people weld a ball bearing to a bit of rod/tube. It's an alloy pump so just needs a tap...
Prob should replace the ball if you've hit it...
I was just thinking it needed to be a rod with a rounded end, it would seat better, the ball is a hardened ball bearing, can smack the shit out of it no worries

Evo pushrod? There is just a ball and spring in the ironhead pump. I gave it a clean out and punched the ball into the seat just now, will see how well it works
-
Has anyone tried the trick on an Ironhead sporster of using a punch to drive the check valve ball back into its seat to stop it wet sumping?

Enfield did a diesel model for a bit,

You can do that by blocking the rear wheel off the ground and put it in top gear and pinn it and then take a photo and show everyone or thats the sort of thing I would do.

I thought I’d post here. I got given a DR200, about a 1987 I think. I got it to cough but petrol was pissing out of the carb. I opened it up and found the float completely locked, something I haven’t seen before. The reason turned out to be a bent pin plus stale fuel gunk. In removing the pin, one of the support pedestals snapped off. It’s a clean break.
Fixable? Solder? Or junk?
Also there seems to be a linkage missing for the accelerator pump:
Carbs are unobtainium and Chyna pumper carbs are nowhere close in physical dimensions, and it’s not worth my time to adapt stuff.
I broke one of those tabs on a customers VF750 when I was pree apprentice, I superglued it back on and put everything back together, the bike never came back

no, repair cert is only for unregistered vehicles
sounds like a wof insector who is afraid of getting in trouble so is applying rules that are not valid for wof
Thats what I thought, once a wof inspector noted that my car had previous structural repairs

A friend of mine took her car for a wof and it failed on light surface rust underneath and they sed it needs a repair certificate before anything can be done, they recommend she scrap the car.
Has the system changed recently or something?

Great fun for hunting 1200 Harleys. Definitely trade again.
The 1200cc engines were introduced in 1948, I could probably win a fight with most 75 year olds

For some reson hitting the weld with the chipping hammer makes it darken

It must be working as it goes dark even if you point it at a glowing bit of steel
