Natalie's 1970 Capri GTXL

I had been wanting a Mk1 Capri for some time. Around October 2013, my Mother and I went to Australia to see my sister Amanda (you may have seen her blue GTE Cortina on this site as well). At the same time, my Dad decided to do a roadtrip, flying from Rotorua to Invercargill, and driving this beautiful Capri back up. When he got to Dunedin the brakes failed, and he managed to make it to Christchurch (without adding any dings) where he got them fixed. There was a bit of work to be done to the engine, so it wasn't until Christmas 2013 that he revealed it to me (and told me how much $$ I owed him). He had reconditioned the head in that time, but there was still work to be done on it so I returned to Hamilton, leaving "Oscar" in Rotorua.

Each time I returned to Rotorua we spent a little more time getting him looking nice. I learnt quickly that I needed to keep an eye on everything that Dad did - This is what happened after I complained about a rip in my seat.

The first job was fixing the handbrake, We took the cable off and got a guy in Rotorua to shorten it for $5. Easy fix. post-17850-0-16007900-1412558834_thumb.jpg

While we were under the car we noticed the exhaust had rotted through. So that was the next job.

We also painted the extractors red

The 'Heatproof' paint turned out to be not so heatproof so ended up getting the extractors HPC coated by a guy in Auckland. Big Improvement. post-17850-0-63117000-1412561820_thumb.jpgpost-17850-0-01520000-1412561819_thumb.jpg

We put in some new sounds, which proved a bit more difficult than expected, but we got it done.
