Around October 2013, my Mother and I went to Australia to see my sister Amanda (you may have seen her blue GTE Cortina on this site as well). At the same time, my Dad decided to do a roadtrip, flying from Rotorua to Invercargill, and driving this beautiful Capri back up. When he got to Dunedin the brakes failed, and he managed to make it to Christchurch (without adding any dings) where he got them fixed. There was a bit of work to be done to the engine, so it wasn't until Christmas 2013 that he revealed it to me (and told me how much $$ I owed him). He had reconditioned the head in that time, but there was still work to be done on it so I returned to Hamilton, leaving "Oscar" in Rotorua. Each time I returned to Rotorua we spent a little more time getting him looking nice. I learnt quickly that I needed to keep an eye on everything that Dad did - This is what happened after I complained about a rip in my seat. The first job was fixing the handbrake, We took the cable off and got a guy in Rotorua to shorten it for $5. Easy fix. While we were under the car we noticed the exhaust had rotted through. So that was the next job. nat.njt Posted October 6, 2014 Author Share Posted October 6, 2014 The 'Heatproof' paint turned out to be not so heatproof so ended up getting the extractors HPC coated by a guy in Auckland. Big Improvement. "Measure twice cut once" came to mind here, though it was more like "measure five times, cut once". Heres a photo of Oscar looking stunning at his first event as a wedding car for my sisters wedding We scored this airdam for cheap when buying parts off a fellow Capri-enthusiast, so we got it painted up and put it on. One day driving down the road, I got a bit of a fright when I suddenly had no gears, Luckily I wasn't alone and had the right tools to fix it. We also kept having trouble with the carb blocking, so we put a fuel filter in and completely cleaned out the fuel tank. We took the carb and manifold off, ready to give it a good clean and put new gaskets on After going through a few second hand carbs, we eventually decided to buy one brand new - So shiny! 11 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So we bought a 2L pinto engine and swapped the blocks over. Of course getting the block rebored, and new pistons and rings. Plus a new Cam, and the new carb to go with it.
