Banter
Hello! This cancerous lump just landed in my driveway. Some of you may have seen it on trademe a week or two ago, I'm the sucker who ended up buying it.Its a 1981 TA61 Celica GT Rally. The GT was the top of the range, GT Rally having the same 2T-GEU, IRS and LSD but with poverty spec accessories. Motor goes/splutters, will need a good tune up and a strip down at some point. A previous owner has taken out the factory LSD and put in a locked diff head which is a bit annoying. Replacing that will be the first thing on the list. Interior is pretty mint, just a few popped stiches on the driver's seat.I'm actually really excited about this project. Its something that I can really get into, I will be trying to do the work by myself including metalwork and painting. Got a family friend who will lend me a welder and I have painting stuff from a previous project. The plan is to get nice and tidy and add a few 80s touches like a digital dash etc. Will stick with the wheels for now cause they look alright and have decent tyres on them. Need to install some low.Now to see what I've got myself into:Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38684-banters-ta61-celica-of-yesterdays-future/?p=1097251Thanks for looking,Andrew

Banter
I had lots of photos but they've gone missing from my phone. Just been cutting out rust and stripping everything. The front windscreen came out great.... Dammit. Might have something to do with the tools we were using. I'm worried a spare will be impossible to find. Banter
Had some spare time so tidied up the cam cover. Also I think I have sorted a rear screen so may not be as painful as I thought it would be.//oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38684-banters-ta61-celica-of-yesterdays-future/

Banter
This thing isn't dead! Daylight saving means I now have more time after work to work on it. I've bought a welder, slowly patching up holes. I've secured a replacement screen for the back too! As she sits right now: I bought a gt4 torsen diff to replace the locked diff, pics from the tard. I measured the stub axle PCD which shouuuuld be the same (fingers x'd). Will ditch the housing, use stub axles (bigger dia) and swap the ring gear. Hopefully everything lines up. They're both T series........ Also bought some electric fender mirrors, the connectors are there in the loom and I stole an in dash control from a supra, so hopefully everything just clips in? I will be painting them black to match the trim etc. Pic from trademe. Keen on some opinions on using an AW11 spoiler Yeah nah?? //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38684-banters-ta61-celica-of-yesterdays-future/
Banter
I knew there was some damage in the firewall gutter so I had a look. I had previously pulled out a plate that was covering a bit of a hole. All gummed up with sealant around the fresh air shroud. Turns out there was very little solid metal holding it there Going to do the same on the other side to assess the situation. Probably the most awkward place to get into and do repairs. Hmm. Banter
Cut out the driver's side, not as bad at all. Had heaps of sealant gunk which just kinda peeled off. Engine is looking a bit prettier. Not really much in the scheme of things but any progress is good.
Banter
Stub axle on the crown wheel side is being stubborn. The other side came out okay but this one is being an pain. I've managed to move it a good 5mm but then I smacked my thumb.
Banter
So I sorted this out a while ago and closed it up. The door jams are much healthier now. Then: Cut up: Now: I bought some fenders to replace my rusty ones, they're not proper Toyota ones but seem to fit well with a few tweaks.

Banter
I'm planning on moving to Australia in the near future and I'm struggling to find time to work on this. If anyone's keen to take this off my hands please pm me, I'll be putting up in the classifieds when I get a chance. Thanks, Andrew Now up: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/45239-1981-toyota-celica-ta61-gt-rally-palmerston-north/
