Out with the 3au, in with a 4age

Ok so heres the deal, I have recently picked up a very nice looking 1982 Corolla SE. Great looking car, however not perfect. The previous owners have done some unnecessary tinkering with the engine. The original manifold has been removed and replaced with one capable of housing a twin barrel Holley carb when the original single barrel carb would have been sufficient. Due to this mod it has not been running as it should. I have replaced the gaskets, done some minor adjustments to the airflow jet and done a general clean of the carb. The car is running better now but I have come to the decision that I want to do a 4age conversion. However with limited mechanical knowledge the task seems a bit daunting. So basically I am wanting to know if there are any tips, advice or info that would help me out with this project. Any advice is appreciated! Cheers!
