Kingpin
discussion thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33064-discuss-1984-datsunnissan-720-kingcab-flatdeck-kingpins/ so..... dunno if ive ever had the balls to post a project on this site. I find the complete awesome-ness of the builds on this site mixed with the fact that I have trouble commiting to a longterm project make the process quite daunting. However I have recently (not that recently actually) aquired a sweet kingcab ute for a very reasonable sum and have growen very fond of it. This is the story so far: The 720 was "advertised" on facebook with no pix and a really bad description stating that it had no reg and now wof and wasnt running, asking price $400. I pounced on it and went out to newlands to view it right away. I had a good look over it and saw that it was in at least ok condish and that I kinda had a feeling it would be something very basic to get it running. this is the pic I took on the first visit:
Kingpin
I went away to think about it (as i always do...mainly so that the bargining power is left with me) and txted him the next day to say I would come out with the $400 bux that night. Well it turns out that his GF had listed it at that price and that he has no intention of letting it go for $400! I did my best to get him to take the $400 but he wasnt having it. So I offered him some wheels and a boxing bag a a few hundy cash and the deal was done. I was tempted to get it running in his driveway but decided to tow it home. after 30 minutes on the side of the road it was running..choice. we took it for a drive and it was dying after a few minutes. played with the tune but just made things worse. then someone on a datsun forum said to replace the fuel filter. $7 later with my repco filter fited it now runs sweet. Kingpin
those of u who know me know that im not small and the super ugly buckets made it impossible for me to actually drive the ute so they had to go: I scored these on tardme and drove all the way to Patea and back to get them: in the process of fitting them last week:
Kingpin
so today QB 4th June 2012 I actually went for my first drive! The seat doesnt actually match to any holes (im thinking the kingcab and single cab may have different seats?) and its still kinda to high for me to be able to sit normal and not smash my head on the roof but I LOVED every second of it! It needs a damn good tune and the seat sorted and a few bits and pieces and then its wof check time! oh and i have a build up blog here fwiw: http://kingcab.tumblr.com/ also why am I posting this at 4:37am

Kingpin
so this is barely an update but....I scored this wikitiki style tiki from the dmp shop. I think it may end up as a gear knob.
