1980 Mitsubishi Sapporo GSR

Been reading the forums for a while, getting ideas and help. I thought it was about time to contribute to the community by posting progress on my current project.

About 2 years ago me and a mate bought this:

It’s a 1980 Mitsi Sapporo for those that don’t know. Picked it up for I little more than its value in scrap. It was pretty rough and had no running gear but it didn’t seem to be terminal in fact there was bugger all cancer.

Turns out this was prozacs old car, heres a pic of it when he had it:

We proceeded to strip it and start restoring with no real plan laid out. We initially made some good headway but with no real sense of direction or order. And then we ran outer coin lol. We have managed to get some $$$ together and are getting stuck in again.

Heres a log of what we have got done so far:

The rear end and new under-seal, didn't bother replacing any bushes in the rear as the OEM stuff was still in pretty good nick.

Have repainted all the front end bits as well as replacing the all the front bushes with Whiteline Nolathane ones. Will put up some better pics of the front end when i find them.

Vinyl sprayed the dash and most of the interior plastic satan black, looks way better than the dirty old grey it was.

Took friken ages to fix the heater vents and polish 30 years of scratches outa the instrument cluster, but well worth it in the end.

Have brand new carpet and a few other bits for the interior but interiors on hold till all the body works done and the old tarts gets her new lick of paint. (vespers blue)

Got some Starion Gen2 D2 coilovers from scarles, they wanted $270 for custom camber plates which seemed abit pricey to me so i got some cut out at Fabrum Water Jet $25 each and just reused the OEM studs then had them powdercoated black for a bar of chocolate, so all up $53 :)

Didnt really think about it till i fitted them but the cut outs a bit big so any mucks gonna come off the wheels into the engine bay.

Thanks to fast135 for the Drawings for the camber plates.

Had one of the engineers at work weld up front hubs, I left 55mm of OEM tube which was probably a bit to much in hindsight.

Fronts fitted

Mags are Rota shakotans with toyos, 9"x15 0p on the rear and 8"x15 0p on the front.

Thanks to CUL8R for getting in the tyres.

Heres a pic of the ride height in the engine bay 110mm at the lowest point, thats as far as the fronts would wind down due to the length i left the OEM tube (Tard).

IMG108.jpg

I reckon the ride heights pretty bang on and theirs no weight in the car so may have to dial them up a bit when shes all back together.

Well thats enough for one night, stay tuned

Scored this old mark one model

IMG023.jpg

Needed the headlight surrounds, and front panels

IMG038.jpg

Was almost a straight swap, the front guards were pretty much the same and in better nick than ours. The chrome bumper looks way cooler than the plastic crap.

IMG099.jpg

Fitting the chrome bumper on the back is gonna be a lot harder. We are gonna have ago at chopping out the rear below the tail lights on the mark one.

IMG025.jpg

and fabricate it to the back of the mark II

IMG105.jpg

We were very lucky to score the mark I, very hard to find especially with chrome bumpers in good nick. Theres alot of good steal in it for patching up the mark II.
