nick_m
Been lurking round here for a bit and due to suffering from a serious case of the man flu I can't be bothered doing much off anthing so I thought its time to start a thread! This is the going to be a big post, i've been working on it for about 5 years on and off now so have heaps of pictures! Car as I got it, A $500 runner with WOF and REGO but no chance of passing its next inspection due to rust http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee9/nick_datsun/Nicksdatto3.jpg[/img] Mounted the motor and a few other little bits and pieces and then had the shell sand blasted and primered At the shop with my friends one I had to do lots of rust repairs Car with a set of 14 by 6.5 genuine starsharks. I ended up selling these to a friend for his 510, I will probably import the same wheels is a 13x7 Engine Crossmember Tubes hold nolathane front spring eye bushes s14 sr20de Decided to build a drop tank because the car was so low and witht the big diff I shortened the diff head would have made a hump in the boot floor. So I made on for it to clear which mean the tank couldn't really stay where it was (behind the rear seat, same as 510) Modified a nissan intank pump to fit the tank Connected to factory filler, so hopefully no stinky petrol smells S13 wiper motor Nissan in there infinite glory kept the wiper arm the same only had to enlarge the hole and weld knew nuts on as it had a different bolt pattern Started making a sheet metal pedal box for reverse cylinders. Nearly finished it. Went a bit overboard its not as light as I'd hoped it was going to be. Laser cut up a panel to mount the s13 instrument panel into datsun dash Made my own octopus extactors Its a close fit! Also made my own merge collectors for it Scallop out a section so the two pieces fit together nice Cleaned up and welded together First time it had looked complete in a couple of years so thought i better snap some pictures of it. This was just before we moved into our house at the start of the year. mk1 golf spoiler Testing 13's Redid my setback a month or so ago as I wasn't overly happy with the first one. I like this one better. My welding/fab was a lot better by this point too Started mounting race seats Modified shift to suit race seat position, original lever was too far back and low for my liking How the engine bay looks now. Just realsed I don't have any front suspension pictures. I have converted to coilver front end with camber plates and shortened inverted bilsteins. Rear is reverse eyed leaves and bilstein shocks The plan is to cage it (have kitset cage sitting in garage waiting) and go have some fun at ruapuna. Have another sr sitting there waiting for some big cams etc once its running Some of the other Datsuns i've owned This was a wagon I got given. It doesn't look to ad in the pics but the a pillar sill area was so rusted out from sitting in a paddock for 10 years that you could nearly bend it down to the ground! Many of its parts ended up on other datsuns, with the right rear quarter going onto my mates 2 door wagon Mint little old lady sunny I owned, stayed like that the whole time I owned it, I regret selling it now! I was only the third owner A12 auto. It was definitely no rocket ship but man it was comfy to cruise around in Current daily driver Its just running standard b310 steels with the chrome wheel trims now as those 13" wheels where buckled to hell Hope you like
nick_m
Due to working on others peoples car and chasing wimmin my car has been rather neglected but I finally got round to working on my car for the first time in 6 months. Sold my rebuilt LSD diff/shocks/leaf springs to a mate for his 1200 cause I needed money at the time so since I hved to build another diff I thought it was the perfect opportunity to cut me a hole Discussion Thread viewtopic.php?f=18&t=24438
nick_m
done me some work this ere weekend. knocked me up some turrets then higher chassis rails to clear all the link brackets on the diff so now I need to do a bump stop which i'll probably do by means of a crossmember between the new chassis rails acting on the diff head, then its panhard mount time. Just waiting on some more rod ends to turn up from the states.
nick_m
pictureless update for now cause can't be bothered uploading photos, but adjustable panhard is made and the diff side mount is made so this weekend the plan is finish mounting panhard bar and install rear coil over springs (hopefully picking them up before the weekend, they are just getting powder coated at the moment) and thats the 4 link all fabricated. Then its some sheet metal to fill in all massive holes I cut and final weld all the brackets on the diff In hindsight I wish I just cut the whole rear out and made a rear clip and tubs a la beams mk1 corty. Would have turned out a bit neater etc, Should still turn out all right in the end, just a slower process cutting, fitting, fouling repeat..... nick_m
missing a few pictures of late, reasonable amount of work done that isnt shown in pictures. Roll cage is progressing pretty well. Hoping tomorrow to drop the cage through the floor and weld the top. then will flip it back up and do door bars harness bar and strut bars, then it should be all finished ready for homogulation. Probably a good few days of solid work left in it though. Will get rouns to pictures shortly
nick_m
Rollcage is all but finished. Just got to go through the firewall to the strut towers and im done .......... However I decided a good dose of arc eye was the order of the day so wont be doing any rollcage today! Still hoping to get it finished up by the end of tomorrow. Hopefully ill get my wilwood pedal box mounted by end of the week too So will smash up some pictures in the next couple of days So stoked to see the cage in there. Finally starting to look like a race car instead of the primered shell that takes up space in my garage! It might even get finished one day!! nick_m
Cage is tantilisingly close to being finished, Was hoping to have it finsihed by the end of today but my arc eye got worse. It is gay, I dont recommend it to anyone! Still have anohter week of holiday left so should be finished by the end of holidays. Should get the Pedal box mounted too. Which was the original holiday goal Also had a wee set back. Was hoping to run an altezza box with some s15 6 speed bits to mate it to the sr, as the are the "same" box made by aisin. Turns out internally they are the same . The castings are slightly different enough to be a pain. I.E S15 bits mostly bolts up. So that needs to be sold and a new box sourced. Probably end up just saving up and getting a s15 6 speed, as thats probably the cheapest easiest way to get close ratios
nick_m
Only thing left is the bars through to Strut towers. and tags to A and B Pillar. Everything else is in and welded. Wanted to do two bars to each strut tower but the lower bar on the door X where it meets the A pillar bar was such a Slut to weld. Thats how I ended up with Arc Eye. Trying to cram my Head in a small space to see where the gun is actually pointing! Think I'll just do one upper bar through to the strut which will meet at the top of the door x Is a second bar really that much benefit? I will persevere if its really beneficial. But it will be a slut.
