AndyGal
Roof rack took itself off, scratched the roof, dented bonnet and smashed off a mirror. Its not too bad I have polished the worse bits out but it still sucks. Pre damage photo.
AndyGal
This is what happens when you go away to the Rugby 7s for a weekend, and you have specimen flat mates and a pining English neighbour. (Bubblegoose) Was done in a single weekend and all the suspension had to be unbolted everything undone and the engine dropped down. Then put back togther like nothing had happened. Go pro was hidden in the corner to catch my reaction, stand by for footage! (only regret was they didnt change the gearbox when everything was out lol.) AndyGal
Spending heaps of time on the car lately getting it ready for the Nats. Biggest job was installing my h190 lsd I bought from Japan through Hayatonka. Awesome service, cant reccommend Ewan enough! I used a steel housing that Nickm gave me and Have changed the ratio from a 4.1 to a 3.7 Drives a millions times better now with usable gearing and no locked shudder. A friend helped me put the diff togther and shim it all up etc. Amazing how much is involved in getting everything perfect. Had to change my axels to the thicker 29 spline ones so had to shorten them to fit my shortened housing. Simon at surfab helped me out with that. Had a bit of trouble with the axels as one was bent but only realised when it was getting welding it back togther and running true. Luckily Bart (OSGC 2011) had another that we could replace the bent one with. Comparison of the old smaller axels and the larger bent one. Replaced almost all of the old shitty bushes with nolothane. Cleaned out the fuel pump as it was making a few bandit noise's. Had to drill out my rear seat seatbelt mounts plate as the new larger diff head was hitting it. Got rid of that, then the drive shaft decided to start touching the floor. So out came the hammer and I smashed up the area under the back seat and solved that problem. Installed a fire extinguisher for when it catches fire. (When not if) Extended my exhaust tips to make it look wilder a,nd to stop exhaust shit covering the back panels Tried leppas wheels on 13 by 8 hayashi commands, they fitted nicely. And heres a random picture of cheerios wheel with some jack camber. Still have a few small things to do before nats but the main things are done. Im going to Join the AA so if my car breaks down they will take it back to Chch for me and give me a rental car. $128 for a year is easily worth it. Im not sure if the gearbox and fuel pump are going to hold up so I would be silly not to. It would be at least $500 to get it trucked back if something does happen. Before Cleaned up. Look how happy he is welding thin datsun steel He brought some new rails he had folded up. Hes doing a top Job. Next on the list is Mint16 is rebuilding my noisey gearbox. Taking the leaves out to get them reset for more low. Installing a panhard rod to get the diff in the centre of the car so we can borrow some wider wheels and get the rear guards to fit perfect BRU! Need to pull my finger out for Nats 2014!
AndyGal
Bubblegoose cam over for another session tonight. Slowly getting a bit more done. Front drip rails have been welded on. Bits around the boot tidied up And around the left tail light. I have started sanding it down and have filed out 6 of the door hinge holes to get the gaps better. Also have got my reset leaves back and its sitting at a better height. Need to sort out a panhard rod next. Should be quite low once the windows, petrol tank, spare wheel, and 5 people are in it! Sorry about the shocking old cell phone photos but we can take some nice ones when its back together.
Popular Post AndyGal
Got some new wheels, SSR mk3s 13 by 7.5s -8 They didnt fit so I hacked my diff up. took another 15mm out of each side. Simon Surfab welded it back together for me. And I put it back in to get the car rolling again. front wheels only just fit with max camber plate. I'm pretty pleased with it. Just trying to get rid of slight guard rub.

Popular Post AndyGal
Took the car to a panel beater friend to get some work done. Very pleased with the results, Got the rear guards redone as I ruined the last ones trying to get the wheels to fit. More clearance under the rear doors and a slight flare. Gets pretty low now with only slight rub on one side. Got the front valance put in again, this was always missing to allow room for the fans, the fans are now on the engine side of the radiator. And a wee diff bump to stop my big dick diff hitting the floor.
AndyGal
Slowly battling away at this started making the winged sump, did a bit but have now taken it to Nick M to finish off/ do the hard bits. Mint 16 has finished rebuilding my gearbox so thats awesome. When the sumps back I can put everything back in the car, do a clearance check, and then its just a little more bodywork before paint.
Popular Post AndyGal
Sumps finished, I did the basics but ended up that I got Nick M to welded it all up, finish it off, and but in some gates etc. Came up nicely He did a great job. He also modified the pick up Should be able so swing end less doeys now with no surge. So put the engine back in the car Hopefully fit recondition gearbox up this weekend and make sure my driveshaft doesn't foul after more lowering. Here a very bad photo of the new sump height, much better and its made from 3mm plate so it wont be getting punctured by feeble stones. The gearbox is now the lowest part of the car but meh I like grinding a bit of box.
