NAME :Brodie

MODEL :kp60

YEAR :1980

ENGINE : mildly worked 5k

thought it was about time i did this as i sure i have not made 1 yet.

i bought my bugeye just about 1 year ago now when i brother wanted to to aussie after i brought this for him. and i could not think of him selling it to some little fruckwit that would destroy it so i brought it back for the princly sum of $1200. when i brought it back it onl had 86,000 orignal km's on the clock. it now had 108,000 on the body and about 10,000 on a rebuilt 5k.

the 5k is pretty standard for now. it is sporting a standard 4k carb that sheldon had rejetted the secondary jett for me. it has got a cam that we have no idea of the specs as there is no markings/stampings on it. all we no is it is as lumpy as hell. on top is a ported/polished and skimed 4k head and is still running the standard hydrolic lifters. it breaths through a ramflow filter and gets rid of spent gas' via coby extracters into a full 2" zorst with a 3chamber middle muffler and a stainless dumpy at the rear. it is legally to loud (104.2dB at full noice & 102.2dB at 4000rmp) but once new motor is built the zorst will be made more legal. other than that there is nothing really flash bout it except for the gilmer belt drive.

is is lowered all round with modifyed factory front oil shocks with motor oil in them to make them stiff as and superlow lovells springs in the front and the sway bar having a bit more caster pulled forward. in the rear it is running compressed superlow king springs and shortened shocks.

wheels are 15x7" konig rewinds with a zero offset and are wearing 195/45/15 GT radials.

me and sheldon have got some big plans for the new 5k motor i have just brought so once the weather clears up abit ill take some pics of the new plan. and we will see what you think of the proposed plan

figured it was about time i put up an update on whats happining to my car.

i have been off work for the last 3 weeks on holiday and finally got sick of how rugged the bug was looking so thought i would start to panelbeat it.

i have changed the hatch at the other 1 was completly shagged due to rush so i found a 100% rust free 1 and have pulled all the dents out of it and given it a little skin of bog where it needed it. from there i thouhgt it was about time to get that bloody great dent out of the drivers side rear guard(what a mishion) i have also fully paneled the rear left hand guard and primed it ready for 1 last block down and some decent 2pac primer. i found a couple little bits of rust so send that off to get cut out and plated by a pro as i kept playing chase the hole with the welder i borrowed gggrrrrrrrr .

all was going good or so i thought! untill thursday once again it was rego time , so went put that on (payday yus!!!!) and filled the tank with petrol. friday rolled around and the wifey wanted me to call out and pick up our pup from her at work as she didnt finish till 6pm. on the trip out there to see her my car started to make this funny flapping noise i had never herd before. kinda worryed bout it i had a look once i got to where i was going to find my gilmer belt was sitting funny on the crank pully.... didnt think to much of it at the time so wnet in got the dog and headed home. on way home it was starting to get louder. once home i inspected it more to find out the crank pully was flopping around like a cock in a sock. not good i though to myself. a mate came around and gave me a hand to get the pully off to find that the keyway is completly shagged. ( i am so pissed off the motor if only 20,000kms old and the gilmers have only been on for 10,000) to make it worse the crank had just had $550 spent on it getting it reconed before putting it in.

so now i am at odds as to what to do.

pull this motor apart and get it fixed, or

sell it as is, or

bite the bullet sell it and start building the new 5k with blown5k with the 20V quads

its hard but i am leaning towards building the new motor.

ill get some pics up at some stage of the progress on the body work.

after a quick last min decission to go up to oamaru to see blown5k and talk turkey bout the new motor all i can say is that "its on like donkey kong". the aim is 100kW.

got the motor and box pulled out of my car today, just got to put in the new bearings and crank into the motor and sell it.

while there is no motor in the car i am going to give the bay a good ol tidy up and repaint the factory red. iam wanting to de-loom or atleast semi de-loom it, take out all the break lines and repaint them black. the break master and booster need to be rebuilt as the seal between them has perrished and is slowly leaking on the chassis rail causing it to rust.

if i remember il do my best to get some pics up during all this

progress finally...

i have now finally fully stripped the front end, except the steering stuff . there is nothing in the engine bay at all and have it book into the sand blasters on friday to get the bay blasted as i am far far far to bloody lazy to sand that shit.

and we have been dead at work of late.............. so i tool all my panel beating bits and bobs to work with me and have fully bear metaled 1 guard , got all the little dings out of it, etch primed and put a tiny skim of bog over the 2 bits thay needed it. tomorros job if we still quiet is to load it up with some 2pack primer and have it all ready for a block down.

should have car back on sat, or monday and i will start on the process of smoothing out the engine bay.
