Hi all, thought i might as well share the pain i'm getting myself into for the next couple of years/rest of my life

here it is, a 1986 Visa GTi that i scored off tardme for $1000. It's an odd looking car, but i dig it's 80's stz and want it to be awesome - it's possibly the only one in NZ, if someone else has one, send me a message :) so yeah, parts have been an absolute bitch to find so far.

it's been sitting in a barn for four years since last being run, but luckily it hasn't seized up and turns when it's rolled in second gear 8)

Problems so far:

- starter was bung and had frozen up, but i spent the night tonight pulling off the intake and swapping the starter for a goodun' (luckily enough, the engine and front suspension is all the same as a 1.6 Peugeot 205 GTi and i gots pooj parts in stock)

- got a bit of cancer in the driver's door, near the front windscreen and creeping into the bulkhead :? hopefully it isn't worse than it looks but it probably is

- it's missing some exterior trim from around the headlights, and the spoiler from the rear (although i found a mean as ford falcoon style rear window splitter in the boot ftmfw)

- dings. heaps of them. little shallow annoying ones

- snapped the threaded rod end of the clutch cable getting the starter out, which was annoying. getting it rebuilt asap by someone in Aucks

- the passenger's seat needs reupholstering because i am being anal

but otherwise it's muuuuueeeen, and hopefully fast!

here's what i want to do with it (including a panelbeat/respray to white):

also, has already been referred to as 'the mullet' in my flat - business in the front, party in the rear

grr.

got the starter in yesterday and got the bitch turning over, but then discovered there was no fuel getting to the fuel rail. pulled the pump off and got petrol in my face, and checked it directly off the battery - all goods. then tried it in line with the filter - all good. put it all back together and it was still poozed

the tachymetric relay that controls the fuel pump isn't working, but even when i short it out at the plug it sounds like the pump isn't getting a good charge to it... except once, when it worked perfectly, but shat itself as soon as i tried shorting it again :doubt: ghey.

edit: managed to bridge the tachy relay with some alligator clips and now she's running 8) fuck yeah.
