BigDave
Aww bless yas! Is that the picture of me that you say is beautiful? LOL... Nah, I doubt it! Costs of build to date are 26K for the Mk2 and probably 30K for the Mk1, it also cost me 2K each to ship them over from the UK with me. So I suppose on the two cars I am sitting on bills for 60K, thats in stirling by the way...dont tell my mrs!! I was crazy enough to work overseas for many years in dodgy places so saved a few bob up, never won anything or been given any handouts, all hard earnt and well spent I say. Got bugger all left now though, even after selling 6 other cars before I left for NZ. Got me a nice house though so it aint all bad. Just before I cry over my old babies, have a look at these... All gone to new homes now, hope they are all doing well..sniff, sniff...
BigDave
and this was just a week before I left, what a car this was by the way... I wish I had been able to bring Tango with me, it was an animal!!
BigDave
CheeRs again folks, but I sadly had to sell all the other cars before I left the Uk for these shores. Just the BDa and Turbo Mk2 here with me, but I am still happy as larry! I am by no means an expert on Escorts by the way, I can fumble through and know all the basics but have to admit that most of my knowledge has come from asking real experts in the past. I stripped and rebuilt the NA Cossie Tango myself which was a good learning curve, but BDA engines get farmed out to pros! mongol, regarding body roll...having three folks on one side of any car will drop the supsension? But if its real bad and rolls from side to side then its most likely your shocks that need upgrading. If its too soft then upgrade the springs also. What a shocker does is just dampen the amount of bounce on your springs so wont really firm up any ride, it just evens it out more. Also adding a panard rod to the back axle will stop side to side movement/body roll? EP, not really a cruise type person to be honest mate. But I do intend going to as many shows as possible this coming season and also a few track days and hill climbs etc... Hopefully get to meet folks at some of these events? Jerm, no worries again mate. I like answering questions if I can. The engine in Tango is a full race spec Normally Aspirated 16V Cosworth (ie no Turbo). It is running on twin 48 DCOE SP's and had mad head work to be able to run without forced induction. Also the cams need to be upgraded with solid lifters and springs etc...It also had APE forged pistons to suit and was built from scratch for the car. The manifold is a hand made "Tnoy Law" up and over 2" race spec monster also. The V8 is a 3.5 Rover item and goes very well! Its owned by a mate now and he has done heaps of track days in it with no worries on the handeling front. The all Ally V8 is actually lighter than a cast steel Pinto! I painted Tango myself on teh front, but it looks better in pictures than in the flesh. The only other cars to have paint are the two I have here. My RS500 and 4x4 Saphires were mint origional low milage examples. never won any lotos, just worked hard and spent wise! CheeRS Dave... BigDave
I qoute here... "What we shall talk briefly about is converting these superb engines to naturally aspirated versions i.e. non-turbo - an area of tuning that is currently very popular. The first thing to consider is raising the compression ratio. Special Accralite forged pistons are available to raise the ratio to 11.5:1 for competition use (for fast road use, these pistons can be machined to a lower compression ratio). These pistons have special raised crowns and can be machined to suit individual requirements. Because the original head is designed for a turbo's forced induction it will require modifying to improve the gas flow of the naturally aspirated induction system. The cylinder head ports will require special attention and, for the higher power outputs, larger valves are used. The profile on the turbo camshafts is not suitable for aspirated engines and these will need reprofiling to suit the stage of tune. These profiles are not designed to be used with hydraulic tappets so these have to be replaced with special solid lifters. A set of heavy duty valve springs completes this basic list of requirements for converting your turbo engine to aspirated. The standard bottom end of these engines is pretty sound with the con rods being the weak link for higher revving engines. If the standard con rods are being re-used always fit heavy duty con rod bolts." CheeRS dave...

BigDave
I notice that Escort Cosworths always fetch good moey over here, you cant actually import them any more as they did not pass the required crash tests back in the day. Never had one of them myself, always prefered the Sierra or something different with the engine fitted. So yes, Cossie I say... Cant find a snap of my old Saphire, need to fix that I reckon! I also have a Holbay YB Engine in bits that I am keeping for a rainy day and swap into something in the future?? I love Cossies me!
