  1. Realized this thread still existed so decided to update it. Bought a parts C50 for it, which got me a sweet luggage rack, aswell as a bunch of other parts including an exhaust.

Then this kind of happened, bought Keltiks old chinese engine he had in his madass, thanks to keltik, and to J5 for bringing it up to auckland for me :D not sure on capacity but he reckoned it was a 70, possible bigger.

Only just got it running tonight, and havn't gotten any lighting or anything sorted and it is idling pretty high so haven't actually tried to ride it with the new engine but will do tomorrow.

    2MQ0uFVDBd8

    Plans for future:

    *Fit one of the legshield/ferrings

*Get lighting sorted, new engine is 12v

    *Lower + Hardtail

*Try not to get pulled over, been pulled over 3 times on 3 different scooter, but never once in my life in a car

*Sort some side covers or something to hide all my dodgy wiring

  2. As above, it now idles at 1500rpm with ever so slight surging, so i wound back the idle screw to see how it behaved at lower revs, it will still not idle much below 1500rpm without big surges and stalling. Disconnected the vacuum line from the carb to the dizzy, changed the idle slightly and there was a noticeable vacuum if i put my thumb over the line coming from the carb. Sprayed a few areas with start ya bastard and couldn't find anywhere that would obviously pick up revs, but will go have another try now.

Here is a video of it, in the whole video I did not touch the throttle, just the idle screw when you see my adjust it. As you can see at 1500rpm its not very noticeable, and hardly an issue, but lower than 1500 doesn't idle well

Oh and sorry about the video being on an angle

  3. Pretty much as it says in the title. Had my 86 D21 Navara break down on my the other day on the side of the motorway, it just lost spark due to a snapped points spring. Anyway got it towed home, put some new points in it, it started right up and idled fine with the odd drop in revs, but would idle fine and be sweet up to about 3.5k rpm, where the rev counter would bounce all over the show and it would sort of bog down. Anyway I realized i hadn't cleaned or gapped the points properly, so did that, points gap at .020(spec is .018-.022)

It will now run fine at higher revs, but will not idle, and surges and hunts at anything below 1500rpm. I picked up a new dizzy cap, condenser, coil etc as they were probably due based on the state of them and the points, so did those. Still no luck.

So not too sure where to go from here, the issue it currently has, seems like it would be carb related to me? But it seems a bit odd that the carb would just happen to play up at the same time as it was off the road for the points issue. The carb has always had an issue where the float wasn't adjusted right, so the fuel level in the bowl was below the mark it was meant to be at. But it seems a bit odd that it would play up now, at the same time as the points? I adjusted the float in the carb and now it sits at the right level, but still having the issues at low rpm.

It is a Nissan Navara 1986 with the Z18S carbie engine. If anyone has any suggestions as to what to try from here then that would be great. The carb has always been a bit suspect, as above with the float issue, and the previous owner disabled the choke and seems to have done some dodgy shit to it.

    Cheers

  4. Awesome, hope so, PM sent to him. Also are any of you any good with the wiring on them? Looks like the flywheel just puts out an unreglated AC output?

If it is then i can just chuck a 6v AC regulator in it? But what about charging the battery? Mine had a coil looking thing with one wire leading to it(and grounded) and a big insulated diode. So my guess would be the coil was an AC regulator and the diode lets it charge the battery with DC pulses or whatever?

  5. Any C50 gurus/shit hoarders want to sell me an exhaust? Will pay decent money for a C50 exhaust if anyone has one around? Doesn't need to be shiny and chromed just would be nice if it isn't so rusted that it will snap off at the manifold. Or else from another Honda 50 engine, Z50, Chaly etc etc

EDIT: Solved the problem of a broken exhaust by buying another C50(fuck what logic tells you)

  6. Is it completely out of the system? Do you know the old plate number? When I phoned LTNZ they could dig up info about mine despite being off the road for a good 15 years. Otherwise see if they can look up a frame or engine number? But yeah worth just trying, you might want to go on a Saturday as alot of VTNZ or AA centres are open, but LTNZ themselves(their freecall numbers) aren't, therefore unsure staff member can't phone up LTNZ asking if you need to prove that is has been registered or whatever, so you can act really confident and certain and hope they let it through as they can't ask LTNZ.

  7. Anyone know much about the charging and headlight system on these? I'm sweet with all the indicator circuits, brake lights and that sort of stuff, just not too sure with the outputs from the flywheel generator.

Here is the wiring diagram(from factory)

    http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/motof ... iagram.jpg

Now I get all that indicator and brake wiring, and how the ignition barrel works, but yeah, what outputs will the engine itself have? Not sure wtf is going on in that light dimmer switch but everything seems to go to it.

Here is me drawing things on paint: Oh and the spiral is the coil and spark plug and stz

    4lzvy3od.2rs.png

Now I need to know how to wire up the battery charging system, and the headlight(not run through the battery) Can anyone tell me what the C50 flywheel/stator thing will be outputting? will it be AC? Or DC? anyone know if it will be self regulated or if i need to find a way to stop it outputting more than 6v to the headlight?

Oh, and the bike is now registered :D But should probably sort an exhaust and maybe some lights before I ride it on the road much, hence the above, sell me an exhaust and decipher my wiring

  8. Yup, just hit up the MR2B with the frame number, engine number, make, year etc, then my details and we were away. I asked if she wanted the old plate number or anything and she was like nah its sweet ill just enter this

Pretty sure that is just because of the place I went, where I got my brothers one done they didn't ask for ownership stuff either, but did look up the old plate, and turned the screen to us asking 'who's this?' for the registered owner, and we just said the old owner and they were all good with that.

It varies massively depending on where you go and who you get processing it, I got lucky and could have gotten away with a lot more if i wanted to, but I just wanted to get it through and on the road. However, I'm pretty sure a motorbike is a completely different story, could be wrong but I think they need a proper recompliance test and all that done, as they aren't a VIN exempt vehicle?

  9. Registered as its its true year

Also, If i had been quicker thinking I would have added something awesome to the registered name, like Honda C50 Tire Shredder or something haha. Mine was an 80s one so didn't get classic rego, but assume you would if its pre 72 or whatever it is now.

$213 for 12 months including a new plate/admin or $131 for 6 months including a new plate/admin shit. Anyway, now someone start an Auckland scooter gang

  10. T-T-T-Triple post

Sorted, went into another AA center who were GCs and it was easy as, didn't have proof of ownership or anything, they didn't even look up the old plate in their system. After the last AA and VTNZ denied me the other day. So it looks like legally it does not need a check, but hardly anyone knows of this?

Regardless, it is now registered. Stoked. To anyone else trying to do it, probably best to print off the above documents etc to show wherever you go

  11. i do indeed have the frame number, im sure as hell gonna be trying my luck with it.

sometimes if you show more confidence in what the procedure is than what the person behind the counter can, you can get shit done!

but yes i believe that if it has been regod in NZ previously you dont need the check, the check is aimed at chinese pitbikes that are probably seriously unroadworthy.

Yeah, and that is how we got the first one through, just the person behind the counter got a bit confused when one of the body type lists didn't have moped on it, so she phoned LTNZ to check what it should have, even though I tried to tell her it is LA.

Pretty sure I can just go into the local cop station and ask them to print out a form saying it is not a vehicle of interest, and then print out the document stating it needs no check, take ID etc, and try my luck. Might even fill out the MR2B beforehand, so I can just go in and give them the whole lot of stuff and tell them this is what needs to be done.

  12. Well my issues is I'm not sure what is true? Does it need a recheck or not?

If not, then its piss easy, they will have it on record if you have the old plate number. When they looked mine up on the system it immediately showed, and also had the frame number with it on the system, so even if you don't have it they can probably search for it via frame or engine number?

Just have LTNZ an email asking wtf is going on with it all.

  13. Deja vu etc, but some shit is going on with the whole moped registration. I have a moped which has been off the road since the late 90s, but has been registered in new zealand, as a moped. I have phones LTNZ, and gotten different answers on different phonecalls, first off was that it needs to go through a one off compliance like check to ensure it is road legal, then it can be reregistered(at vtnz or AA, at $200+gst or $275+gst. The second, is that you can simply fill out an MR2B and put it back on the road

Has anyone here personally reregistered a moped recently? What was the procedure you went through?

    It states pretty clearly here:

    http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/virm- ... n-v3a4.pdf

    that

"Re-registration of class LA, LB vehicles (mopeds)

    4.1 Re-registration of pre-1 July 2011 mopeds

If there is evidence that a moped has been previously registered in New Zealand before 1 July 2011 then the

vehicle does not need to undergo the same inspection and certification process as a vehicle being registered

for the first time in New Zealand. All that is required is proof of previous registration and proof of ownership.

There is no requirement to inspect the vehicle."

However phoning LTNZ now, i have gotten them telling me that i need to go through the check. Wattafuk

Anyone have any ideas on this? Will send LTNZ an email now asking for a final word on it, and for the chump employee reading the email to actually check with someone senior, rather than having their own opinion, but that document on their site seems pretty clear to me that it does NOT need an inspection.

    Cheers

  14. Thanks haha, saw the exhaust contraption on your C50, looks like it means business, I might have found a new exhaust from a china pit bike to fit for like $30 brand new, will cut the muffler off and just use the straight pipe. Can't go too wrong, otherwise I will try find some premade bent pipe, and some straight pipe, in whatever diameter i need and get someone to weld it up for a box. Just need to get the flange type bit right. Also somewhat eying up a second frame for sale, because why have one C50 consuming all your money and time, when you can have two! Probably a bad idea but will see how it plays out...

  15. a straight pipe would be easy to make but FUCKING rowdy!. if i run mine with a straight pipe for 2 minutes i have a ringing in my ears for about 20 minutes after.

Haha yea i know, I'm running it with no exhaust at the moment and its mint, ridiculously loud, backfires when you back off acceleration and just generally sounds badass. Just wanting an exhaust for looks, so it resembles something slightly legal, and so no shit gets into the exhaust port/beach skids don't get sand in my engine. If a proper exhaust comes up cheap I will buy that too just for if i get sick of the noise or anything or don't want unnecessary attention, so if anyone has a spare exhaust i would be keen on that too

Are there noise regulations for these things by the way? Like if he wanted to be a dick could a cop pull me up about it? Not too worried either way but just curious

z181200: C50? Or other dirty 4 stroke? Giz details if its a C50?

  16. Not a big log at all, but just a quick summary of my little C50 project, have excluded heaps of boring shit where possible.

Was inspired by the large bunch of badass scoots on here to jump on the bandwagon and pick up an old Honda cub from some old guys lawn for $150, just for something to play with/break more on rainy days. Anyhow, when i bought it it had been off the road since 95, and looks like it had been used as a paddock hack or something for a little while, broken then left to sit for a bit, although didn't seem too rusty or anything surprisingly. It was advertised as low compression, not running, so figured I can't go too wrong and bought it.

    ix4z0wge.0ma.jpg

As it was when i bought it ^^, photos make it look a bit better than it is, was a bit more surface rust, bog, and broken things than you can see there, but still was a decent base.

So the plan was to not spend too much on it, and to have the motor decent and running and the body looking a bit better, so i stripped it back to bare metal. I originally was under the impression that it needed to go through a one off compliance type check to get it back on the road, so wanted to make it look a bit less like it had just been pulled off some old guys lawn. I originally had planned on keeping this scooter looking tidy and nice, then i realized i would rather have it look badass so scrapped the restoration type idea, and decided to do what I want to it.

    gtekdisl.fg4.jpg

Was original as shit so it needed a rising sun on it immediately

    2dp0t4hs.ge3.jpg

The back guard seemed to be a little interesting, and a tiny bit of pink, decided to strip it back to see what was under there, and it had clearly been victim of some handyman with a tin of bog, so stripped it back and ended up cutting off the end flare/bell type bit, and smoothening it out

    huz3nt2c.jit.jpg

    kevwd0km.1e5.jpg

    jvzzjdnd.idg.jpg

    sfiesxkz.whp.jpg

Also stripped the rest of the frame and bits and pieces to bare metal and primered the whole bike. At the same time i had gotten onto the engine which turned out to have a slightly scratched bore, snapped piston ring and scraped up piston(looks like it has been siezed) so got a +0.5 oversize piston, rings and new gaskets, and sent a few bits off to someone who skimmed the head, bored it for the oversize piston and blasted the head/barrel which ended up looking mint. Have got pics somewhere of the engine beforehand, bit the head was REALLY pitted so needed a fair bit skimmed off it.

    runycdkq.nxl.jpg

    kxsxowqb.noq.jpg

    z50k4wiq.xuk.jpg

Incidentally when i put it back togethor and into the bike this funny engine thing was ticking like a bitch. Turns out this was the reason... Piston was hitting the head due to the head being skimmed too much

    sxo35euk.akc.jpg

So a bigger base gasket fixed that and the engine itself seemed to run good, so decided to finish up the body asap so i can take it for a jam

    e14b0l5v.qel.jpg

    ji1aumuy.4yo.jpg

    dvyvr3xy.2nn.jpg

    fq1w4uhr.tpm.jpg

So this brings us to a complete(ish) bike. When i took it for a test run however, the engine ran nicely, had mint compression, but as it turns out the transmission is also screwed... FFUUUUU ensued, however had Jase offer me a complete engine for $100 so took that to chuck in it for the meanwhile, and probably harvest the bottom end from if mine turned out to be shredded. I have been running it with his engine for a bit and it has been amazing, compression isn't great and its a dirty old honda 50, but man is it fun. Oh and the exhaust also snapped off at the manifold, so that was a bit of a pain, it was rooted anyway, holes in it here and there and dented up a bit.

    zs5vwbx4.sog.jpg

Most recent picture of it(today) and in action, screenshot from a shitty video

    afzjn2m0.jww.jpg

So, plans for the moment are:

*Rewire bike from scratch(nothing works, all the wiring looks like it has been wired by a toddler, then chewed on by said toddler, sometimes its easier to start from scratch.

*Make a straight pipe up for it

    *Get it registered

*Get brakes up to a reasonable standard(back doesn't work, front is terrible)

*Get off my ass and split the cases on my decent engine and see whats up with the transmission(no 1st, other gears a bit suspect too)

*Sort out some different handle bars, maybe even use CB100 forks or something

And I'm sure a bunch of other bits and pieces that i have forgotten

Any input, suggestions, criticisms etc welcomed, and if anyone wants to make me a straight pipe I will come bearing gifts/money
