Looking really good like the leaf springs . Who done you gear box cut down ? How much did it cost? Hill climb this weekend you coming?
Thanks Shane. Yeah starting too see some progress now. Gearbox was a joint effort between Subway Automotive in Pukekohe and a local fabricator.
I had some extra work done on the gearbox but all up the mod would have been around $300. Hoping to get the LSD and brakes all finished this weekend so no, wont make the hillclimb - next year!
-
Great attention to detail, and the finish looks superb. Did you paint the car yourself?
Thought about it but no, a mate did it for me.
-
A bit more progress..
Decambered with extra leaf.
And one of these with a 4.44 diff I'm rebuilding at the moment
New manifold so I can retain the brake booster
Front suspension still ongoing. OEM TCA's are shit!...

Basically a huge fuck around for no good reason.
Happened to a mate of mine. Was unconscious after a crash, damaged fuel lines and fuel spewing everywhere. Seems like a pretty good reason to me.
-
I've interocked the fuel pump via a relay driven from the oil pressure switch.
Don't like the idea that if I'm upside down somewhere and the fuel pump is still pushing fuel into the carbs.
You will also need to wire in a defeat circuit for startup.

Nice wheels
Thought you might say that...
going to join us on Sunday
Wish I could but the escorts to do list is still quite long. Might come down for a look though.
Isn't there a law about how many escorts you're allowed to own?.

Those JBW RS mags look sharp!..
Let us know how the header paint works out. What did you use? VHT?
-
Great report M_C. Gotta luv sorting out the gremlins
Got down to 1:30.80 and 154km/hr which I am pretty happy with for street tires and lazy Essex V6 way up front.
That's a reasonable lap time!..
But on a good note the time's where getting faster.
What sort of times before the meltdown?. Good luck getting it back together.
-
Well, how was it?.
Everybody get their cars home in one piece?
-
Might call in after work and catch up with a few of you guys.
Really depressing being a spectator thou!..
-
I retired at the age of 47 because I didn't bounce like my kids did. Really miss it now especially for fitness. Do it!.. You're a long time dead.
-
Shock absorbers don't control the ride height - thats determnined solely by the springs and yours are probably a bit tired!..
Get them reset or replaced to the correct height. But while you're at it, you should probably replace the shocks and bushes as well - depends how deep your pockets are. Koni do a good range of standard and performance shocks.
-
Other options are:
1) Lower the brake booster by about 50mm or
2) Buy a 1300 manifold from Palmside as this allows the carbs to sit above the booster - still close though.
Both options probably wont allow an air filter but individual socks work
-
Rip the whole booster set up out of the car, unbolt the master cylinder from the booster, use a die grinder to open the hole on the firewall up a bit, bolt master to firewall then cut the rod from the pedal to suit, bend lines to new position and bleed.
What supports the brake rod at the master cylinder end if you do this?
Thanks

4.4 is just trouble lol
Haha 4.4 for me. Got one lined up but don't want to fit it until I sort a LSD

Looking good what did you do to your engine? We are going for another track time at Hampton downs on the 30th twilight should be fun if your keen?
Brought it second hand from a guy in hamilton, Spent a fair bit of time tidying it up and sorting a few issues - goes ok but will be building another engine shortly with a bit more hp.
Would love to be at Hampton with you guys but unfortunately still missing a diff, brake lines, linkages, fuel pump.....sigh.
-
Is the rollcage a removable item? How much of a pain is it to get in and out?
Just got to remove the front seats and bolt it in - shouldn't take too long.
Will be out for cert and WOF's, back in for skids.
-
A bit more progress..
Decided to go the type 9 route after all.
Engine nearly sorted

Cheers, i bought the steering rack from burton power for 120 pounds
What did they sting you for freight?
-
Escorts looking sharp!..
Where did you pickup the new steering rack? Been looking on eBay.co.uk and seem really cheap for 2.5 and 2.9 quick racks
-
What is the cost to have some thing like this done??
It seems any where between $350~$800.
-
Thanks Avenga for the contact. Turns out Neil Allport Motorsport does them as well.

Does anybody know someone in Auckland doing this mod to type 9 gearboxes. (as per two_days_late's escort)

Gearbox is back from the Cemick Engineering in Petone where Carl shortened it down. I needed it to be 82ml shorter and he managed to get it to 75ml. Should be plenty though and means I can use the standard gear level hole, and have the shifter in the nice factory position. Also means I can keep the standard centre console.

Finally found some decent UK cast TCA's. Taiwanese knock offs (left) are so bad, you can't fit a sway bar nolathane bush as the casting hole is offset
POR Caliper paint is good stuff. Mintex 1166 pads to fit.
Competition linings from Autostop - not sure how good these are going to be. All new cylinders and mounting hardware
Group 4 steering coupling
