Thanks for the link Testament.
Ended up buying a set of Maxxis HT750's
Came down to "the look" vs $$$. $$$ won out - hope I don't regret it

Shite.. No 215/60x14 Coopers in the country.
Didn't think it would be this hard to get a matching set (different size) tyres for 14' rims - 13" s maybe
-
Thanks all for the feedback - keep it coming as I need to sort by the weekend
Wouldn't use either on the front of my wheelbarrow, but would on Grannies wheelie bin......
Coopers (and BF Goodrich) aren't really made for NZ conditions, or our rubbish chip seal roads. The reason they do ridiculous miles? They are harder than a whores heart. And Nankang is really the best of the budget bunch, but note......BUDGET........ High nylon content which is awesome if you don't care about grip. And the carcass usually isn't much chop either which is why most people find that they chew the shoulders regardless of tyre pressures.
Neither of them is going to handle much more than a little bit of enthusiastic driving, and to be honest there are a lot better choices.....Hankook, Kumho are always a good start if you don't want to pay the earth, But those fronts may need to be a different size to do it......It seems the fronts are a real problem. Don't think I'll be able to run a wider tyre without rubbing issues and would prefer not to go narrower.
Mustang really is just a cruiser for the family (for now) so not looking for a performance tyre.
Pretty sure neither are available in a 235/60R14 with white writing anymore either. I can confirm tomorrow though.
Thanks spiderwebfx. Not fussed whether they have raised white lettering or not.

Looking at replacing the BF Goodrich T/A's on the Mussie but 215/60x14 (front) are no longer easily sourced.
235/60x14 for rear are still available but expensive.
Checked out Cooper Tyres website and it seems they have a good selection of sizes and widths especially for "older vehicles,
Hot Rods and American muscle cars"Anybody had experience with Cooper Cobra Radial GT's?

Slowly progressing with the tidy up.
Interior looks way better with new dashpad, instrument cluster etc.
A rust repair below battery tray, apron and partially into chassis rail.
Starting on dodgy suspension now. As mentioned, most of the bushes are toast - who knows how it got a WOF last time...
What's the go with these sway bar links?
Should be vertical when the suspension is loaded but mine are sitting back at approx 10 degs.
I'm assuming because the springs are -1" that the geometry is wrong.
Maybe longer links are the go?

Did you end up going to Homewoods for your dyno?. (I guess not as they do supply a printout) Sounds like very similar hp ratings to mine.
Good luck tomorrow.
-
Bad luck with the rim. Watched you racing on Saturday - Car looks really stable and you seemed to be able to brake later than most
-
Thanks Max.
Best time was a 1:30.9
Finally a successful day at Hampton - managed to drive back on the trailer after 3 races.
Lap time down to 1:28.6 but still lacking a bit of talent around turn 1 and 5?.
Some GoPro footage to come.

Goudenz Gisler - (09)236 9023 in Harrisville. Really decent bloke with reasonable prices.

Thieving bastards have been at it again.
Stolen from the waikato last weekend last seen heading north.
'69 Mach 1. Black and Silver. Rego GKF336.
You know what to do if you see it...

Keen. Need to get the trailer queen out of the shed as missed last 2 rounds of classic trials.

I spent a day last week researching and pricing mustang bushes and front suspension out of the States because apparently the majority are the same as on an XB Falcon which is what I've got/need.
So you can get a nolathane/urethane package from Jegs or similar for less than anywhere local - the aftermarket stuff available for them is awesome.
Keeping 12 slots? Please say no.
Thanks for the info on Jegs - will check them out.
Definitely staying with the 12 slots.
Considered steel?
What do you mean?

Funny way to get your escort complied for the road...
More pics and details please to increase my jealousy.
Driving and legal?
Yeah not sure the escort will be getting certified anytime soon now...
The mustang is all legal and (semi) roadworthy but not sure how the last owner got a wof. Suspension bushes and steering arm bushes are all toast.
Haven't taken too many photos yet but my wife was playing with her camera the other night.

Bought this recently as a bit of a cruiser.
Genuine matching number GT built in San Jose January '68. 302 with C4.
Interior needs a lot of work but CJ Pony parts in the states are awesome.
Picture makes it look better than it really is as it hasn't been looked after the last few years.

Bob Homewood (Hitech Motorsport) has heaps of experience with side draughts and is setup with a Dynapack chassis dyno.
Found some extra hp for me but unfortunately made it near impossible to cold start!... Going back next week to sort out.
Hitech aren't cheap dyno charge $250, lambda fitting $20 + labour but they will standby their work.
Good luck sorting you're trailer queen. Must be something about them as mine is just as bad
-
Ha I feel your pain. Still haven't sorted mine yet either!
-
How much Hp and touqe where you getting?
Aiming for 110 hp at the wheels. Not quite there yet according to the dyno for some reason
Man this thing looks so cool on the track!!
Nice car mate
Thanks. Great fun to drive when it goes

Just finished running in after engine/gearbox rebuild - lots of startup issues around new baffled sump, pickup and oil pump (and a second failed cw+p).
Handed to tuner for a dyno session on friday before sunday racing so didn't get a chance to run before meet.
Really hard to start cold with lots of spitting but settled down when hot. Dropped a cylinder on 2nd lap of second race. Looks like a head gasket.
Got to sort out the ute before I can do much with the escort now.
-
Another DNF at Hamptons yesterday
Car lasted practice and one race before deciding it prefers to be a trailer queen.
And to make it worse my towcar broke down on the way home....Fark!!
-
Looking good, nothing like a bit of tripoding on turn 3
You obviously sorted out ya problem - distributor playing up?
What sort of lap times did you end up with?
-
Bugger!..
Distributer probs again? Was the pop just a backfire thru the carbs or a mechanical breakage?
-
Starting to get the engine back together.
Didn't really know what spec the motor was but stoked to find a well sorted head (albeit with a bent No. 2 exhaust valve) - Stage 3 spec Big valves, porting etc
Added steel shaft, posts and spacers. Resurfaced cam with duplex adjustable chain/sprocket. Steel banded head gasket as evidence of a small leak between 2 and 3 when pulling apart
ARP bolts/studs. A little more work to the rods and new rings. Custom oil control plate
To combat the oil surge issues, I'm spending some serious $$$ getting a proper gated/baffled sump made. The old winged sump was an engineering disaster and has been confined to the bin.
Also waiting on the gearbox which is getting modified for larger bearings etc.
Engine went fairly well before the rebuild, so will be interesting to see how well it goes now....

Slowly getting this thing sorted.
Goes around corners now without falling over....
New complete bottom arms with hd bushes. New drop links. New tyres (not on photo) and a decent alignment
