  1. If the indicators flash fast make sure all the bulbs are flashing.

    Yep they are all flashing.

    Good shit brah.

As Rodjah says, check bulbs, also check flasher unit, could have somehow got included in the mixup, do hazards flash normally? (preeeetty sure they run off a separate flasher unit, could try swapping 'em over.)

Just got a new indicator relay, the hazards flash normally too. Ive even swapped the hazard switch for my working one from my cabby to make sure its not faulty.

    Ceramic fuses, like these?

    41PEdlewnBL._SY300_.jpg

if so they are terrible things, quite often the cure to circuits not working is to wiggle the right fuse as the contacts corrode slightly, pop them out and clean up all the contacts, just don't touch them with sandpaper, you don't want to scratch off any plating, I find a dry rag does the trick for 6 months or so

Ahhhhh I did wiggle them but i didnt remove them! Ill do that tomorrow!  And smash some CRC on it too.

A few of the plugs on the back of the relays had a bit of rust so am guessing some water has found its way into the fuse box.

Bare in mind it sat out side for approx two weeks with no glass in it....

Drove it to the base and Pak n Save today and it started, tooted, indicatored and had no issues.

Give it time. Something will come up

  2. Charged battery

    Alternator isn't charging

Horn still not working and neither are indicstors

    Indicstors have a new relay

No fuses are blown no melted wires anywhere

Earthing points have Been sanded back to steel and all battery connections buffed up.

That's about as far as my knowledge goes with electrical shit.

    Fuck knows what's going on

  3. Have you checked all the fuses? Not just in the in-car fuse box but also under the bonnet fusebox?

Not knowing what car it is - I am merely assuming it has two fuse boxes. LOL

Oh hahah it's just an 82 golf gti . Has only one fuse box/relay panel. Ceramic fuses are all good none are blow . I am charging the battery today and will see if it's got juice later today. It's still under warranty I think too.

  4. You sure this isn't your problem. I am suprised that a mig welder would do that kinda damage to those circuits.

Welders can damage sensitive circuits such as ECU's especially O2 Sensor circuits which run very low voltage and are connected to the exhaust. Battery can act as a giant voltage / heat sink and can actually help reduce potential damage. Induced voltages are also a potential hazard.

Jump starting is a more common method of blowing alternator diodes or voltage regulators from my experience...

I will charge the battery and then test the alternator and see where the issue lies tomorrow after work.

Im not sure if the welding did any damage, other than make my dash LCD clock work again....

  5. Welded my exhaust together connected to the car while the battery was still connected.

    Nooooooob moment I had.

Now a little while since then Ive noticed my indicators don't work, horn doesn't toot and the battery doesn't charge.

The battery light is on in the dash.

Should i go over the car and re do the earths to the battery?

    No fuses are blown though.

  6. After much fluffing about i discovered a multitude of things wrong with the car.

Every wheel was hand tight. Keep in mind i towed it from Ohaupo to Hamilton

Struts were loose. Hence the clunking noise

Front indicators now work because i put the relay where it shouldve been.

I have high beam on the left light but not the right and have no wiring for the "gti double light" grill.

Was told to hook them up as just fogs or high beam.

Sorted a few nitty gritty bits here and there, eg window wiper motor is replaced.

NUmber plate mounts are being soaked at the moment in cocacola.

Cbf doing seats so i think greg should do them and ill buy him a pie. :D

Drained the oil and its mint now.

Barely idles but suspected to be the massive vaccum leak. Will sort it out once it gets back from the WOF man.

Cant seem to find any wiring for indicators though which is making me panic hahah.

Started first pop this morning! Im not used to this luxury hahah

  10. Been lazy, unproductive, busy, unmotivated. All of the above.

But got stuck into it tonight.

Headliner done, still to cut the hole for the rain roof.

Rear windows in. First time doing windows. FIrst time doing windows alone too.

Door rubbers on, boot rubber on, boot re installed and speaker trays too.

Seats came up mint after a run through the laundromat!

Will be giong together this week sometime hopefully.

Spent ages sorting through the seat shit.

Glued some of the carpets down so it looks neater.

Tried sorting the sunroof out but to no avail.

  11. Thanks for that!

Brake pedals and brake pedal push-rods used within low volume vehicles:

    (a) may be modified by taking into account the specifications provided within the appropriate Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association Incorporated Member Association Technical Manual; and

( B) must not be lengthened or shortened by the process of solely butt-welding the two or more sections togethe

Welding with a sleeve would be very easy. I decided to machine up an aluminium clevis (not exactly but don't know what else to call it) that screws over the pushrod.

Just a bit stuck as we don't have a 1/2" unf die at work AND I'm too cheap to buy one.

I may have one at work cuzzzzzzzzy. Ill have a look on monday for yaaaaaa. Get my number of Gregosaurus. or fb me
