Flying into it and its looking good. Nice work!

That cars gonna break your heart not to mention your wallet. Thats serious to pox out like that after 18 months and the rest of the car will follow. Speaking from experience dont buy it unless you can afford to spend another 8k to fix it.
-
As above. Ratchets are not designed for "breaking" tight bolts and a pipe on a ratchet will toast it pretty quick. Thats the job of a power bar. Get a drift (mild steel bar) and a hammer. Give the head of the bolt a good blow with the drift and hammer then have another go.

for the record, to freight a car out of the states will run at about $7K landed in NZ. People will quote cheaper (their mates, uncles, neighbors, brothers, girlfriends father got one shipped for $3K etc) but budget $7K.

Get some sweet 90s rims for it. I vote these
I think those are ROH Reflexes from memory. They were everywhere in the 90's. Those and euro 5's.

I think the technique of the blasting would be my biggest concern as opposed to the media. Im looking to have some work done at Autoblast in Glenfield. Kinda pricey though.
-
Whats so special about that? would imagine it to be about the same as garnet
glass is just sand isnt it? I got some garnet a couple of years back. Was expensive and seemed to work harden the metal extremely fast.
-
Why. Alot of bead blasters refer to their media as "glass bead". Ive not heard of crushed glass. Crushed walnut, but not crushed glass.

Waikumete car upholsterers. 8187655.
these guys will be able to sort you out.
i think its a safe bet that they have done hundreds of dubs before, they been around those boys.
Id second these guys. Did a head liner for a MK 1 Escort I had from stratch. Great job. Also Kelly at Stitches Upholstery is apparently very good.

Has anyone used or converted an old arc welder into a scratch start tig?
a scratch start tig is the worst abomination on the face of the planet.
the first thing you have to do before you start welding with one is fuck your electrode. i fucking hate them.
Ive used them for so long now its what im used to. I recently used a HF start TIG and would certainly go this way if I was purchasing. Its seems to be a standard feature now.
The only reason I ask is because I already have a good arc welder, and it seems quite reasonable to buy a hand piece for it. From what I can gather they seem like the industry standard for boilermakers/pipe fitters working outside etc.
Does it have a switch for TIG function? If it does you should go for it. Just remember earth lead to the positive on the machine and the torch to neg.

None of the controls do anything.
It just says 105 on the screen no matter how much I turn all the knobs/flick the switches.
When I pull the trigger, the screen says 202 and the hf works, but no arc.
The day after it went bung I came in in the morning and it worked again, so I went and chopped rust out of the bottom of a door, bent up a bit of steel and when I went to weld it ... nothing again.
yeah I can understand how that would fuck you off. There is a guy local to me who just repairs welders. If it comes to that point I can get you his contact details.

Don't think it's easy, tig needs a constant current power supply.
My warranty seems to be completely useless.
So far all they've sent me is the operation manual for a welder I don't have
The Material of the IGBT 200AC/DC is more expensive than the WSE-200P,but the function is the same. The manual has been attached, please check.
And after more requests for help, they sent me a block diagram for the wiring of the welder I don't have.
I'm getting my brother to write to them in Chinese. Failing that I'm going to have to try to fix it blind, but the thing's fucking complicated.
What went wrong with it?

only if your car leaks : otherwise its perfect?
there is moisture in the door cavities as the windows are not completely sealed.

I dont know that they make hardboard any longer. You could use just about any thin ridgid product. Thin ply or even an old realestate sign might work. Probably avoid MDF though.

I will try and find some pics and scan tomorrow. I recently did the heads on my 302. I didnt get to carried away and basically port matched them to the manifolds and removed any excessive casting. I did the same years ago on my xflow coupled with balancing and a 234 Kelford grind and dcoe's. Was a sweet and very drivable engine.

The previous owner/butcher of my car thought fibre glass was cool. I strongly disagree. Do it right.

Years back when we had our third (and last) child I was in the same position with the same budget. I foolishly started looking at V8 landrover disco's but luckily Clint (Cletus) was on hand and told me what an utter piece of shit they are. This has been verified a few times since by other parents that fell for the bait and got one. We ended up with an estima which wasnt bad because A. I seldom had to drive it and B. it was very reliable. The good points over the odessey is they have alot more space with the main bonus being that when its pissing with rain you can step inside and do up the kids seat belts/wrestle them into their seats without getting wet. Anyone with kids will verify how wet you get putting kids in their seats. It was a 4x4 too.

valiant has your best interests at heart! Do it.
-
whats your budget?
-
Ford dont do the petrol turbo anymore. Just too thirsty. They may have even got rid of the petrol 4x4. I previously had a toyota highlander which was a good ride but averaged 13.8L to 100 kms.
-
grind the bolt head off, remove the diff head then wind the left over stud out... probably by hand.
-
Nice work! That engine sits perfect in the bay.
-
I daily a territory diesel. Drives awesome and averages about 9.5 to 100 kms. The 6 speed trans is sweet but the pommy diesel sure can smoke for a new engine. Apparently they are in the process of sorting this now.
