Long weekend in Auckland so convinced Mrs Bantam to come away in the Teardrop. Had to buy a innerspring double bed and promise a glamping style holiday. It nearly turned to shit when she saw the camp site had a classic old school longdrop. Brought more expensive wine to please her.
Booked into Tapapakanga regional park camp ground. This is where they have Splore every 2 years. Just ring the AK council with your credit card details and for $13 per night your in. They give you the combination to the gates to get into the campground. There is a choice of 3, one for camper vans near a stream, tents on the beach, or tents and caravans on top of the hill. We went to The Seaview camp on the hill. Fresh running water and clean and tidy long drops. Rubbish bin and a recycling bin.
Called into Clevedon Coast Oysters to make sure it was a great night. A dozen for $16, bloody nice.Tapapakanga is only 70 minutes from home through the backroads of Whitford. Just over the hill behind Kawakawa Bay. Avoided the motorway, Escort has the drag diff in so doesnt like it, much better as no cars around Friday.Arrived and set up camp. Only 6 other tents here so choose a nice spot by the trees. The beach camping area was full, great spot for next time. You need to book early, max of 7 nights.
Day tripped down to Kaiaua, about 15 minutes away for the best fish and chips. You can buy beer there or pop next door to the pub.Just before Kaiaua there is a little settlement. On the left is a big house with a big garage full of vintage cars and a large teardrop trailer. Old bloke was outside and waved so stopped and had a look.Saw a nice Zepher 6 a few doors away too.Just took a little $20 burner with small cartiridges for cooking. Had scotch fillet one night. Bacon and eggs for breakfast. It was good to go somewhere so close to home instead of the usual 4 hour trip. Good for day trips, once you go pass Botany, youre in the country.Mrs enjoyed it so much, when we got home she hit TM for caravans so the kids can come too. That must mean I need a MK5 Cortina wagon with a hot Pinto to pull that....- 20

Think it will last long after being repaired? Those cracks look terminal to me
-
I see it at Woodheads Electricial today. He is getting the magic box replaced. It just shuts downs when cold, warm or hot, then starts 30 minutes latter.
Think some workers from Lucas went to work for Lumination in the 80's.

You're in luck, there is a pair of TS-X11s currently for sale locally. Someone better bid, otherwise I will.

They're some of the best sounding shelf speakers you can buy (and heavy to boot). I'm still very impressed with mine, as mentioned on page 1
Thought no one had seen this auction, damn it.

Shit good tread.
I remember looking at these models in the early 80s at Eastern HiFi and Paul Moneys, then getting my cousin to bring them in duty free from Oz.
Then recording the record player or radio for mix tapes
them were the days

Buy this one for home. i have one the same, never a problem. Have used it for 200 coffees one day.
-
Just change the water level probe length, they all seem similar. In saying that, if you are only making a few coffees, there will be more than enough steam for milk. The water for the shot will come through a HX (heat exchanger) and isnt really adjustable
-
bump - finished/any progress?
Yeah.
Forgot all about this post.
Got it all back together and working.
Sold it to a coffee roaster in the Coromandal
Currently descaling a single group Unic. Have seen these Unic's around but never in the stripped state. Not bad for a Frenchy. You find most machines have all the same pumps and solonids, just the boilers and piping are different.

Now that we all had a taste of drag racing in October, time to watch the big boys play

Anyone keen on meeting at the BP southern motorway???
Also about 7 F1 cars. Probably your only chance to see them ever in NZ

Thats a great improvement for $100! What ratio did you go to/from?
From 3:89 to 4:1 much more responsive, and pulling better revs in 4th over finish line.
-
Changed the diff to a 4:1 on Thursday night. Scored it for $100 from wrecker. Worked a treat at the drags, knocking nearly a second off my time from last year. Maybe a new set of tyres for next drag meet.

-
17.01best time in the Escort. A second faster than last year, still using the same tyres, no engine mods, just a higher ratio $100 diff change.

Yeah, mechanic had it and wouldn't shut down for him. He came back from Rotorua yesterday and it shut down.
I will swap coils and see what happens.
-
Not mine but a friends MK2 Ford Escort
1600cc running an Lumenition ignition, turns off sometimes when driving.
lights, horn etc still work
Engine stops and won't start for a while. Lets it rest and pokes a few wires then it comes right.
Think the magic box might be stuffed.
he's coming over tonight for me to have a look
Any ideas????

I saw that in there yesterday, made me pause on my lunchtime walk....
Where do you work? Sounded awesum. They store cars for owners there as well , so some nice Lotus cortinas, 50s corvette. Nice 60s Ferrari pulled up today driven by some young merchant wanker

Seen a yellow as new 1980 Mexico in Kohi.
-
Used to see one of the old ones in Onehunga in the late 80's driven by a sexy redhead. Buy it.

Alas the gearbox did not last. Think my reassembly was a but out. Just made it home from whangamata and 3rd gear was screaming.
Power was out in East Auckland so had a free afternoon. Ripped it out and fitted a new one. Much better. But after doing the Gumboot rally this weekend, I need a sierra 5 speed. Too hard on the old girl, 100km at 4100rpm.
Means tunnel needs work... more $$$$

Well made it to Whangamata and back for Brits at the Beach. Towed well behind the Escort, sat well and flew up most hills, though I did loss traction in 2nd up the first Whitford hill from Howick. New tyres needed.
Camped with Jackson in his Transit and another Teardrop of Franks who tows it behind his Ford Consul Capri ( 7 speed custom made overdrive gearbox)
No leaks and was warm , rained all weekend.

Got stuck on motorway Friday night heading to the Coromandel, so turned off at Manurewa, went to Clevedon and turned right onto Monument Rd. Beautiful deserted road. Goes through Hunua town, came out at Maramurua Golf.course
