  1. Hi All,

I am looking for some part time help in our little store in Birkdale.

I need someone to work a couple of hours a day to pack / dispatch goods, book-in deliveries, handle a few phone calls when the main man is busy etc. There will also be some interaction with customers who come to our place.

We work above a busy classic car garage and sell car parts for Classic Mini, Morris Minor, MG, Triumph and Jaguar so an interest in cars is good but not at all essential...if you know someone not on the forum who might be interested please spread the word...

I need someone trustworthy, flexible and reliable. The right person will have the chance to increase the hours and get more involved in the growth of the business, as it stands, we're only able to go to 10 hours per week and this must be spread over at least 4 days between 11 am and 4pm, otherwise it's flexible within those hours.

Please send me an email to discuss /  find out more: matt@classiccarparts.co.nz

    Cheers,

    Matt

  2. They want to raise $200,000 with $10 tickets?

That's at least 20,000 tickets - maybe more if they have expenses to take out of what they raise.

Good cause though. Just undesirable odds. :D

Yeah, they also value the Mini as a $20,000 prize which for me is a bit strong but can't knock them for having a go.

If we all spread the word...and reduce our own chances of winning...then who knows

  3. Three blokes from nelson have restored a MK3 Mini and are raffling it for charity....It's a cool looking mini and tickets are only $10 each.

The charity is a Nelson cancer charity...I don't know all the ins and outs, I just saw this and decided to buy a couple of tickets in support. I think it's something worthwhile, not just for the charity but in support of these fantastic old fellas who've spent 2 years fixing up the old Mini to just give it away for a cause they believe in.

Buy a ticket or 2 and help Bob and his mates raise $200K.

The other 3 prizes aren't to be sniffed at either.

  4. I think anyone who has a downer on Morris cars knows absolutely nothing about their incredible history and the man himself.

William Morris 17 years old when he started manufacturing bicycles in his shed after doing about 9 months of an apprenticeship and saying F*ck this, I can do better than this. He then built the best bikes around and proved it by getting fit, getting on one and winning cycle races to promote them. Then, with no formal engineering training he decided to start manufacturing cars, he was an absolute genius, made millions and gave millions away too (he gave away over 30 million pounds to charity before he died, that's billions in today's money).

If he had suppliers that he liked...he bought them, if he had suppliers that he didn't like, he bought them and made them better.

The Morris badge went for a wank when he died.

You can slag BMC, Leyland, Austin Rover or whatever but Leave William Morris (Lord Nuffield's) name out of it, he is the dude...period.

There are books about the life and career of Lord Nuffield, I recommend that anyone should learn more about him... inspirational.

    Rant over.

  5. In regards to electronic ignition I find these kits good......havent got one on my cortina yet though only a datsun

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/ford/electrics/auction-645180938.htm

That trademe user is actually an oldschool member too so if you email him off his website saying your from here might save a couple of bucks,

Hi guys, That's me with the listings on TM. I can do better prices out of trade me and mention oldschool for another  10% off.

The range includes full electronic dizzys as well as the DIY kits, just get in touch, I'm happy to answer any questions.

  6. Ok so what's the advantage to electronic ignition

And if I put a 1500 pre x flow into her could I use the same module

Hey Felixx, the main advantage of electronic ignition is the "set and forget" aspect. Once it's installed it doesn't need to be gapped or set ever again. Because it's a sensor instead of a mechanical contact, it is more reliable and gives a stronger spark. Even if your car runs fine on points, you will still benefit from better fuel economy with electronic ign.

For your Anglia you have different options; you can install a conversion kit into your own distributor for about $80 or you can buy a whole new reproduction distributor for about $200. With both of these options, you don't need to change anything else but we do recommend changing cap, rotor arm and leads to get best advantage from the conversion. Also, I do like to recommend either a Lucas Gold sports coil or a Bosch Blue Coil with the electronic ignition, these are both excellent quality coils without being so powerful they lose their reliability like the cheap 40,000v coils you can get. It all depends how deep your pockets are.

There is also a high energy distributor available, this requires a change of coil (to one with primary resistance lower than 1.5 Ohms, such as the ones fitted to cars with factory-fit electronic ignition) these are $250 and the price includes the coil.

The new distributors that we supply come with a mechanical advance curve to suit the Anglia Pre-xflow.

We are the NZ agents for Powerspark ignition, I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

    Cheers,  Matt

  7. I import a fair bit from the UK and I can tell you that currently there is no duty to be paid on any car parts - (commercial vehicles are different I believe.) Also If my shipments are ever close to $400, i try to keep the costs under that and I have never paid GST on import if under $400. If you avoid the GST you also avoid the $35 processing fee.

The $400 limit is not just for the value of the goods but also includes the freight costs too.

If splitting up shipments so each can be below $400 though, it can escalate the freight charges quite a bit.

There is always the possibility that higher value shipments will slip through without GST being charged but I've noticed these are getting fewer in my experience. Also there is talk of the $400 limit being lowered - which is probably where this mention of $60 is coming from??

  8. Guys,

We are advertising for a workshop / warehouse assistant.

Would suit a young, enthusiastic and mechanically minded person, so a background fiddling with old cars would be ideal.

Job is reporting to me (Production Manager) but applications are to General Manager - Mark Thomas.

Ad details and contact info - http://www.trademe.co.nz/jobs/engineering/industrial/listing-502525614.htm

If you need any more info before submitting applications, please PM me.

    Cheers.

  9. Hi guys,

I have a '66 Hillman Super Minx and as with most 1960s saloons, it has no rear seat belts.

Has anyone fitted a car seat (rear facing one) to a car with no rear belts?

Our child seat has ISO mounts which work perfectly well in my Ford Mundane-O but I was wondering if I can install the mounting points into the boot of the Hillman or whether I should fit seat belts to the back and which would be safest.

Any pointers would be gratefully received

    Matt

  10. Hi,

I'm looking for an old car door. Please PM me if you have one kicking around and would like it to go to a new home...

    Door needs to be:

    A light colour

complete with all exterior trim and window / mirror (if fitted)

    reasonably priced (cheap)

    in Greater Auckland area

It also needs to have a large-ish plain surface (no swage line).

Doesn't matter about any of the interior trim.

rust / rot around the edges is fine.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  11. Will this include usage of lighting rigs to gain a better understanding of where and how to place light sources?

    Thanks for your question Snoozin.

The 2 workshops I am currently offering are aimed more at a novice level.

These are introductory workshops, I would say that if you are already looking at the use of light rigs and creating studio lighting, you are already too advanced for what is being offered here.

I am looking at introducing dates for an intermediate workshop, probably next autumn and anyone wishing to step up from these beginners' workshops will be catered for here as well as more advanced amateurs.

In response to a couple of other questions:

There will be no classroom or studio time, the workshops will be on location. The meeting point will be the boat lockers on Sulphur Beach Road, just North of the bridge and we will move onto a second location that will offer different challenges and scenery.

Course content includes, Composition, Framing, Natural and camera-mounted flash lighting, Depth of field, ISO, Shutter Speeds, Scene Settings for compacts, use of shadows etc. I will talk about the theory and there will be handouts but the majority of learning will come from doing and group challenges and discussion.

Compact cameras are more than welcome.

There is no base skill level needed to take part. Whatever level you are at currently, you will notice significant improvement by the end of the day. You will be able to understand; not only why your shots are coming out as they are, but also what to try to improve them next time.

  12. Hi guys,

I will be running some *introduction to automotive photography* workshops throughout the Summer in Auckland. The workshops will be aimed at beginners with a mild understanding of photography but with a desire to practice a few techniques and learn some new ones.

There are 2 types of workshop:

Workshop #1 is a 4 hour session on a Saturday or Sunday. The main feature of this workshop is that your own car will be your subject on the day and I will keep the group size to a maximum of 4 people so I can give everyone plenty of guidance.

*by the end of the session you should have some great shots of your car(s) and a much better understanding of how you did it.

Workshop #2 is also 4 hours, but, with a group size of 8 max. There will be just 3 or 4 subject cars chosen by me on the day. You are encouraged to bring your own car and I will choose which ones to photograph based on what I think will offer the most variety and best practice.

More details, such as dates and costs are available on my website http://autozoom.co.nz/section541515.html

And even more details are available if you PM me - such as what to bring, details of what content will be included and answers to any other questions you may have.

Early booking is recommended but extra dates may be available later-on; depending on my other commitments.

    Thanks, Matt.

  13. Hello,

I have had a lot of interesting emails regarding my last post offering a free photoshoot, but I still haven't found anyone with the cars I am looking for, please read on and let me know if you can help!!

I would like to photograph one of each of the following cars:

    Ke30 Corolla ( preferably standard - unmodified)

pre- 80 mini ( ideally with roof detail, checks, union jack etc.) The tattier the car, the better for this one.

GTS Monaro ( anything from the 70s with a bit of muscle)

X- Falcon (as above, I would love to know if anyone has Ford AND Holden?)

E-Type jag, Jensen Intercepter or DB4 or 5

50s American - lots of chrome and leather

If anyone is willing to help please email me a couple of pics of the car to hawks_wood@hotmail.com

If you've got what I'm looking for I will offer a shoot at your home or on loctation (Auckland Only). after I've processed the images I will let you have all the digital files to do with as you please and also give you ten 5" x 7" prints.

This is ideal if you are wanting to sell your car in the near future....they'll make great advertisement material!

    Conditons:

I reserve the right to publish the images on my website.

    No cash is offered

I am located on the Shore, I am offering this to Auckland residents or anyone prepared to travel to Auckland for a couple of hours.

The shoot may take up to 2 hrs.

Arrangements are weather permitting and will be on weekends.

    Cheers,

    Matt
