  1. I've owned a 3 door 12sr. They're a great wee car. The recaro interior is OK. They kinda just seem like a factory retrimmed seat with a bit more side bolster. They're black with orange trim. The backs on them are plastic, and mine had cracked from memory.

I wouldn't foam after the interior too much, but the motors are pretty cool.

Went hard for what it was

  2. Shortest stack top headset I can find on the internet is 16mm and $119 from wolftooth. So 4mm gain there.

And I'm finding it very difficult to find stack height on stems. But the shortest would be 30mm spank items. So gain 10mm there.

And once I've spent all that I'm half way to brand new soma/surly forks haha.

I might just weld this fork and save for brand spankers ones if the bike actually rides ok.

Show us a pic of the setup -

So, here's a pic of the set up for reference. Conveniently with this stem you can see where the steerer sits haha

Bottom cup headset stack height is 14mm

    Top cup stack is 20mm

Stem stack height 40mm and steerer sits 20mm below the top of itIMG20200805170807.thumb.jpg.38555bcaa459eac898b41c948b8eb806.jpg

A low stack height stem would get that on there - also lower stack headset

if i can see the steerer above the top bolt of the stem it’s ok ( bit more for single bolt stem)

some bmw stems are super low stack but only 7/8 handlebar

I'll get you a pic of it with the current stem on + the head set dust cap. The head set I can find would give me 4mm more than current, and I can't find low stack stems that aren't those stubby dh type ones. Be interested in a lead on some others that aren't Spank if you know of any.

Edit: I just clicked as to what you mean by bmw stem, I assume auto correct from bmx?

  5. Basically, it's a steel rigid fork. 1 1/8" steel steerer, with a disc mount and an axle to crown height that matches a suspension fork. They're a reasonably rare breed now, and the closest thing I've found brand new is $330 from SOMA. So it would be great if I could make the current fork work.

Cost of welding is no issue - dad builds hotrods and custom motorcycles, so he's happy to do it for me - I just wanna make sure it'll not cave my face in.

  6. Yo

I'm building a bicycle and unfortunately the forks ive sourced have a steerer tube that is about 20mm too short for the frame...

It's a threadless 1 1/8" steel steerer. The stem can only clamp down on it with the bottom bolt at the moment, so I'm not too keen on running it that way.

Is it safe to weld an internally sleeved extension into the steerer tube? And if so, is there a particular way that would be best to do it?

Edit: bicycle used for cruising gravel pathways - no sweet hucks
