  1. Ha ha, cheers I was wondering if you would hear it
  2. Right, so this happened then this Even managed to get it insured...... So yeah all done, well not really still needs an interior and some paint touchups but that can wait, its now time to put some kms on it, this has been a pretty long project so now all I am going to do is enjoy driving it. Pretty funny car to drive gets a fair few looks some good some not so good and mostly surprised, gas mileage is so bad, like next level bad, I took it out today and my average was about 4.4kms per liter but it is running really rich (yeah that'll be it, not the rotary under the bonnet ha ha), anyway combine that with the 30l Anglia tank and I am going to be spending some time at the gas station for sure! The biggest problem that I will have now is keeping it under 5000RPM (so hard to do when all it wants to do is rev....) for the next 1000kms which is what the engine builder recommended, work is about a 30km round trip so I only have to do that 34 times and at current gas milage it will only cost me about $500 ha ha ha Anyway it's all good And I will leave this as the last shot, and in my opinion the best angle of the car
  3. Ha ha yeah, cert plate arrived yesterday, wof and reg sorted today, and I will never drive it in the rain again! Not because I am precious of it but there was seriously a 25mm deep puddle on the floor by the time I got home!
  4. Hey thanks for that, just a few days too late for me as I already bought one, I got a 3.5 ratio out of a 90's XLT Courier, the B1600 housing wasn't notched quite right but that was no biggie and I had to swap the driveshaft flanges over but other than that it went in ok.
  5. Not sure, it is a standard b1600 one whatever that is, I will take it out this week and have a look
  6. I think the housing has already between notched, so that's a bonus
  7. OK thanks, so is there a particular model that I need to look for or are they all the same and as long as it has come from a B2000/B2200 or a Courier XLT then it should be sweet?
  8. Hey guys, I have a 1981 B1600 with a 4.8 ratio diff in it and it needs to be changed, from what I understand you can fit Ford Courier, B2000 and B2600 heads into the housing but is there any particular year or model that I need to be looking for? What I want ideally is a 4.1 lsd head Cheers Matt
  9. Keen for this, was hoping to have my Anglia done for this but still haven't got certification unfortunately. However I just picked up another car tonight that will work
  10. Hey Pete, cheers yeah I heard that the video of my car was doing the rounds. Pretty cheeky that someone would find it and post it up there but that's the Internet for you, I turned up at work and was told about it yesterday. It is a really shit video but from looking at the comments people seem to like it. As for the escort front end that is all useful stuff so thanks for that, I am surprised to hear about how the bottom arms sit as the mount point on the crossmember is higher than the anglia one so I guess that must be all in the position of the stub axle relative to the ball joint. I will hopefully get the crossmember in this week some time then will get a better look. I guess that was why you notched the chassis rails on yours right?
  11. So with my other car in the final stages of certification and finding that I don't have a lot to do on it I started thinking about getting another project, I mean I have to have something to tinker with right? I was wanting to get a ute and was really keen on either a Datsun 1200 or early Mazda one and I looked at a couple of projects but the problem was that they are starting to get expensive even for something that needs a lot of work, plus to be honest the other car ended up costing me a fair bit so forking out more dollars for another project just wasn't really an option. This combined with my wife telling me that the other Anglia might as well be a motorbike given that it only has 2 seats and is loud and not the most pleasant of vehicles to cruise in or generally be in etc etc. got me thinking that a better choice would be something with more seats and more of a cruiser. So what I do have is a spare Anglia body and a buttload of parts both left over from the other build along with other parts that I have bought along the way just because they were cheap and I thought that they could be useful one day. The good thing about the body shell is that it has live reg and while there are a few rust holes in it it is essentially pretty straight, I thought about selling it as the plates and tags would be worth something but as I have already started chopping it up to fit the rotary the shell probably isn't, but it is far to good to throw away so with that said the decision was made. So what to do with a body shell that has already been chopped? Well the logical choice is to chop it more and fit something bigger in there. So amongst the acquired parts I had this 3.9L Rover V8 out of a Discovery, pretty much complete except for the alternator and some parts out of the distributor – incidentally if anyone has any of these bits then hit me up as I need them! And thanks to a helpful Oldschool member I also have this Auto trans from a SD1, maybe not so much of a performance trans but for what I want it should do the trick. The motor was auto so I also figure this will be the cheapest way to get it moving. So here is the car and yes that is a big hole in the guard but I have already repaired the steel underneath it so it looks worse that it is And from the other side Engine bay is empty but kind of small, still the grinder can fix that easy enough, that steering box is going to be an issue, luckily I have this Mk2 escort front suspension, I have read heaps about how this isn’t the best to use but I can’t see why not, I mean look at how close it is to fitting. As I see it all I need to do is remake the mounts to sit the crossmember in the right position relative to the strut tops to ensure the castor is right then make some new sway bar mounts for the front, seems easy enough to me, looking at the front track dimensions between an escort and an Anglia they are only 89mm different so only 44.5mm per side which isn’t much really. This is also something that I have wanted to do for ages and even thought about scrapping the mk2 Cortina setup in the other car and going this way so should be interesting. So that is the plan, first get the front suspension in (probably without springs for now) then get the motor and trans bolted up, drop it in the hole, cut and weld as required and see where it leads. I am also thinking of doing a 4 link in the rear (also something I was thinking of for the other car) to get it sitting nice and low but that will come later. Oh yeah and I got a set of these really cheap so they will more than likely go on it.
  12. So the last few days have been spent sorting out the brakes, funnily enough with the master cylinders switched over it now stops like a champ so pretty happy about that. Drove the neighbors crazy running the car up and down the street slamming on the brakes but it had to be done. I also got the new shorter springs and threw them in and there is no heaps of clearance on the tyre so that will be all good now. So it is already for it's retest now. I had some time today so I sorted out something that has been bugging me for a while, there is a small cover at the top of the bonnet that I took off a while back to get some paint colour matched and then I left it out as the engine generates a bit more heat than the old crossflow and I thought it would be a good idea to let it escape, anyway it is a reasonable sized hole and it looked a bit messy with nothing on it so I did this. First holesaw some holes Then swage them with the tool I made a while back And fit to car and here is the car now that I have raised the back up by 25mm I can now get out of the drive without scraping but it still looks good I reckon. Fingers crossed that the next post will be to say that I have cert
  13. Well it's been a busy couple of days, had cert booked for Thursday and before that I took the 1" blocks out of the back to raise it up a little, it doesn't look as good but now I can actually get it out of the drive without scraping the crap out of the exhaust. So Thursday morning I drove it out to get a warrant then the garage let me borrow a hoist for the inspection. That all went pretty good, there were a couple of things but nothing major, then we went to do the road test and the car wouldn't start, stupid thing!! anyway I think what happened is the fuel pressure was too high and was overflowing the float bowl and flooding the carb, anyway I eventually got it going but only on one rotor and just couldn't get it to clear. So the certifier left to have a look at another car and I went off and got some new plugs chucked them in and wound back the fuel pressure and it was good to go. Here's the car on the hoist (kind of boring pic but I haven't posted any for a while) Then it was off for the bump steer test which it passed and I went home to fix some of the small issues that had come up on the inspection. The certifier came back at about 10pm so we could do the road test which unfortunately didn't go so well, the car goes good, handles good but wasn't so flash on the stopping so it failed the brake test. There was no fade or anything it just wouldn't pull up properly anyway I was a bit surprised by this as I had researched it pretty thoroughly but what can you do, so we headed for home and on the way back started talking about master cylinders and sizing etc. Then this morning I had a thought and went to check the cylinders and found that I had the front and rear cylinders swapped, so I had a bigger cylinder on the front which meant it was much harder to push the pedal and explains why it wasn't stopping as it should. So yeah my bad, what a dumbass. Still it's good to know what the problem is, I have swapped them over now so hopefully they will be sorted. There are a couple of other things as well, the coilover platforms sit quite close to the tyre so I will put some shorter springs in and wind the platforms up to get some more clearance, and I need to get some documentation for the driveshaft mods. So assuming that the brakes will now be ok it is pretty much sorted, unfortunately the certifier only comes to Nelson once every 4-6 weeks so I have a bit of a wait but hey it's taken years to get to this point so another month won't hurt, it's not exactly a practical winter car anyway..... There are a couple of other things that I will do while I wait like replace the 3.9 diff with a 4.1 and look at adding some interior (specifically some sound deadening, I reckon it's louder in the car then out.....) So yeah I guess that's a win
  14. Cool, yeah I have heard that from some other people who have used him as well. Hopefully there won't be any surprises but you never know
  15. Ha ha no unfortunately neither Gavin or Barry can do it as they can't do some of the mods on the car so i have been talking to Marty Jones who comes down to Nelson from Palmeston North and hopefully he can sort it for me. Otherwise I will have to take it to Christchurch. Either way I will get it sorted
  16. Hey Kelvin, yep getting really close now. Spoke with the certifier last week and will start the process in the next week or so. The bump steer test is one of the first things happening so will know shortly if they are are all good.
  17. Had the first drive of this thing on Thursday, trailered it out of town to a garage near work to get the wheel alignment done so took it for a spin to see how it goes. First drive one of the driveshaft loops came loose and dropped onto the driveshaft but once that was sorted it was all go. So it pretty much makes no sense going slow and to be honest I was a little disappointed until I opened it up, then it all came together. Goes good, handles good, sounds awesome, so I am pretty happy. I do have a bunch of things to fix though, the main one being that it is too low at the back, exhaust hits everything and it is a pain to get out of the drive so unfortunately it is going to have to come up. Anyway I will get that sorted this weekend (along with a couple of other minor things) and once that is all done it will be ready for cert.
  18. Yeah I have that one, it shows the green and white wires but doesn't have the other 2, unless they make up the internal circuit but if that was the case then why have them coming off the motor at all?
  19. Hey guys, I am having some issues with my wiper motor wiring, it was working before I changed the engine and now it isn't. I am guessing it is something really simple that I am overlooking..... Anyway there are 5 wires coming out of the motor, 2 greens that were connected to +12v a white and black one that goes to a switch and then to earth and then there is a red one and a black one that I don't know were ever connected. So my thinking is that the red could be a 2nd speed and the black an earth but so far I haven't had any luck making it go. So the problem is I don't know if the motor has died or if it is just a wiring issue (I am thinking wiring is the most likely). Any ideas? Or is there someone with an anglia who could look at the wiring and see if the red and black wires are supposed to be connected to anything? Cheers Matt
  20. Yeah it's a pretty good feeling now that it's running especially after talking so long to get to this point. Pretty glad I stuck with it as there were a few times that I thought about selling it. Anyway the next step is to get it on the road but my motivation is pretty high now to get it done
  21. It's just through photo bucket works on my computer but not on my phone either. Not sure what the deal is http://s225.photobucket.com/user/105re/media/TRIM_20160530_061135_zpsn99jdybk.mp4.html see if that link works
  22. Ha ha, it won't be far off now
  23. Not a great video but you get the idea, it is quite loud although there is more induction noise than exhaust noise, will probably be better (worse?) with the bonnet on. I think it sounds awesome
  24. Ok lets see if this works http://vid225.photobucket.com/albums/dd95/105re/TRIM_20160530_061135_zpsn99jdybk.mp4
  25. Ha ha nah I didn't drive it, it was hemorrhaging oil and none of the gauges were working so I managed enough restraint to push it back in the garage and wait till i get those things sorted. I will put up a video of I can figure out how rotate it, stupid phone keeps rotating it to the side. Sounds pretty good though
