  1. Crazy women drove into the side of my rally car.

New rear quarter, new rear beam, new hub, new door, panel damage on RHS, new rear bumper, paint etc $20k worth to repair... insurance deregistered it.. been a carnt of a few months and will miss Targa next month and will spend next year rebuilding myself, but every job turns into a bigger one.. should have taken the insurance payout and run.

  2. As long as you don't get swarf poured into your cylinder head you should be sweet.

I see you're in Papakura - you could talk to Andy at Papakura Mechanical Services. Alternately Murray at Papakura Engine Rebuilders has had a few of these pass thru his shop in the last 15 years.

Had my TX3 outputting a nice healthy 240hp at the front wheels with judicious mods (was ridiculously fun in a car weighing under 900kg), but the aforementioned swarf ended up ruining christmas :(

I'm in the process of resurrecting it but will stick to track racing, and ease up on the power output a bit with the next engine build.

btw that kit is a "Tordair" one - very popular here in the '90s, but I'm not a huge fan myself

Cheers for that, not sure what swarf is but will investigate further.

  3. Its a 88 FWD 1.6 Turbo NZ New, I suspect it has a blown turbo but could requite a few more things to get it running well, he is wanting too get it going but has been given the run around by a few mechanics, we are turning it into a rally car so would like to get it running nice and strong.

I am far removed from the Japanese car scene and don't know who to take it too.

I remember a member had one on here and was looking for a pointer on where I should recommend he take it.

Note the awesome Repco or similar body kit and white wheels, like you I am thinking it will be a very fast car when it it running with these additions.

  4. Nah it was pretty shitty advise.

I read an article awhile ago about BMW (I think) not releasing their latest diesel models in NZ due to the substandard fuel, and the one they did finally release was basically an NZ only version that had an older model engine in it.

From what I've heard Gull sells the best quality diesel. Would like some confirmation on this, but they are the cheapest.

BMW NZ (as do most of the other European makers) have the same diesel engine options as offered in the European and Australian markets - as far as I know the diesel BMWs sold new in NZ don't have the old technology engines.

That was the case with a model 15 years ago so it must have been an old publication. These days we get mostly the same models.

Can not help with vans. Have always had petrol.

  5. So sold the Corolla, needed cash etc.. was not so sad this time, normally get upset when I have to sell something!

Funny it went all the way back to the South Island.

Next project will be a BMW E30 of some sort, wont be for a while though as my racing in Targa is keeping me very poor, who would have thought putting a car through something so hard would constantly break it!

  6. JR racing, where do you buy that?

I think its all good as long as you only mist on a small amount,, its only there to collect extra dust so no need to coat it heavy. I have a ITG filter that is foam so it wont make its way through. Amazing how much crap they pick up when you wash them out!

  7. Have just given my filter a wash and was wondering if there is a better and more economical solution to the specific stuff ITG or K&N sell.

An aerosol can of something that will last for years would be great!

  8. Was a white Honda with a red SI badge not a SIR. So non V-tec. A mate had one with the V-Tec and it made a lot more embarrassing noise and had just as little low and mid range power. Was good and fast and all but never had what I would call character, all grey and black on the inside, no quirky bits anywhere, nothing I would call sporty, good handling but nothing dramatic or surprising, was just a well engineered Honda.

  9. They went well but its not all about the performance its about they way they drove and how fun they were, the 205 is just fau, I had a Civic back in the day and the only character it had was an erratic idle and tourette syndrome. Was embarrassing.

  10. Votes RB30.

Have lined up both and the results were quite surprising, the Auto VL 308 could not pass the 5-Speed RB30 VL. There is science for you.

    308's sound beautiful though.

  11. Have owned many a 80's Japper, could not and still cant afford a F40, but when I was 15 I thought my Corolla was as fast as one 8)

    what about these??

    Gibson+GTR+R32.jpg

As cool as they were, yes you can keep that too.. Just give me all your M3's, F40's and Cozies and I is happy thanks!

Would like oscillating air vents though, they were better than a stereo after a few.

  12. I love that the in the 80’s the Japanese copied a lot of technology that had been available on high end European and American cars since the 50’s and fitted it to low end economy-boxes making the rest of the world wake up and start giving goodies to the masses.

There have only been two real inventions from Japan in the 80’s that have made me laugh years later, the oscillating centre air vents on the Mazda Cappella that Lexus Claimed they had invented in the late 90’s and the Heads Up Display on a 1988 S13 Silvia I once drove, years later BMW and Mercedes are raving about this tech on their new cars.

You can have your yucky jappers the best things to come out of the 80’s were the E30 M3, Sierra RS Cosworth and the Ferrari F40 :salute:

  13. Fuck... I use petrol.

$2.08 per litre at the moment.

This. Removes tar and bugs like no one's business.

Follow us with another great product, Meguiars Scratch-X Swirl and Scratch remover, I use it was a all over polish and tooth whitener, there is nothing it cant do.

  14. I have crashed lots, have written off a couple of cars but mostly bent stuff like suspension and wheels.

At least I now do it in a race car with a cage at race events.

Did this back in the day after a park up session on top of Mt Wellington. Don't drive off Mt Wellington, we rolled a few times and I chopped my ear off on glass getting out, the head rest saved me and too a lot of the hit! Still remember every bang on the way down, must have rolled 4 times, we were over 100m from the road.

  15. I also work at repco and can vouch there isn't 200% mark up they cost us a lot to buy K%N are the real thieves, try find a friend with a trade account it makes some what of a differnce or if you can sweet talk someone behind the counter to give it to you at a trade or cheaper price?

I said up-to 200%. I don't just make shit up. The guys at my local Repco suck ball sacks even when they are not on lunch break. Not all Repco's are bad, my mate used to run the Takanini branch and he is a genuine good cunt that likes cars, I also found the guys in Palmerston North quite good going out of there way and staying open for us on Targa. I'm sure the guys at my local store actually hate cars and their jobs.

This is my awesome cool story admissible in any court.

Was looking at an Apollo Kit, the sealed one that has the cold air pipe feed into it, I called up Pioneer and asked if they had any and what was the cost, they told me the cost an I said great, send me one out, the then asked for my company account details and I said I didn't have one, they then said I would have to get one through Repco. Called Repco and said what I wanted, even gave them the specific part number, guy doesn't know what I am talking about (I think he was dreaming of sucking balls) even though I had seen the K&N Apollo there weeks earlier and this guy has worked there for years plus a friend had just purchased one recently. I tell him I will leave it with him and he can get back to me when he finds out. He calls back three hours later (probably after talking to same guy that I did at pioneer) and tells me they will have to get one one in and it will cost 200% more than I was quoted from Pioneer. I hang up, jump online and buy superior product for half the price. Happy.

    True story.
