  1. I think minis are rad BTW, just not British engineering.

ya can't have it both ways dude ....... unless you are into those bmw shitters ? classic mini engineering is British from when Britain was still , well , good

  2. depends what events you want to run though , that car has run in a few 'classic' events which it could still do with a Z or L or FJ motor but only two of those can be done cheaply ...... if you are not worried about classicness or datsun-ness there are some great options out there too . but for me I would go Z based as best bang for buck , no fabrication , classic option :-)

  3. isnt this the generation with the autochoke that gums up inside and out ? if so often the suplementry idleup unit for a/c & p/s wont be engaging cause choke still on a bit ...... worth checking what choke is doing before you go much further anyway cause that may explain the high idle you are trying to adjust/bend into submission too ! also check basics like timing and vacuum leaks sooner rather than later , good luck :-)

  4. has anyone messed with cpi from a low spec EA falcon ? its a pretty simple set up (and shoud adapt fairly easily to the 186) and offers pretty good power and economy in the falcon even compared to the multipoint ......... holden freaks may be unimpressed (not sure if that is a pro or a con ?)

  5. sorry , not sure I am with you ; what is the "safety issue" with towing ? if you dont like towing there are heaps of vehicle logistics companies , and if you get friendly with a car dealer (or register as a dealer yourself) 'd' plates , lots of options really

  6. yes ........ but the death happens either way !

as for original question , its part of the oil crisis , we have used up all of the thick dinosaurs so we have been forced to develop cars which can use the oil from the remaining thinner dinosaurs . its science , science is always right

  7. not 100% sure whether or not I have balls ..... ..... wife two kids , mortgage and no clips , soooo , we can probably assume a best case senario of them being redundant :-) capital is a brand new track/club on the same site as the old one , 6ish metre ramp and a longer track . wainui now has sealed corners (last year or so ?) upper hutt has been closed for repairs but is all go again so its on "the list" . you still riding ? seems there are a few (ex)racers on here

  8. thanks ^^^^^^ , scared of clips :-( shins ok so far but good tip , will have to try upper hutt (coping ok with flow at wainui but my fitness sux !) capital looks a little intimidating but will get there some stage ..... really just riding for fun/fitness/almost 40-midlife crisis/always thought it looked cool

  9. so , a few weeks in now ........ still ; fat , old , slow and really enjoying it ! first day on my bitsa Redline yesterday , lighter bike and better gearing have definitly made things easier/faster , once my fitness & technique improve I can see myself as a close last instead of a distant one :-)

if anyone is thinking of giving this a try ; local club guys are really friendly and helpfull , 2nd hand gear is pretty cheap and so is membership/licence (my total spend is only around $500 which covers decent safety gear an ok bike and membership/licence)

    cheers Tim
