  1. My grandfather was in the resistance in the Nederlands, I've not heard many stories, he wasn't one to talk about it a lot, he's dead now so I won't be hearing fuck all either.

A previous girlfriend of mine's grandfather had been shot down or got lost somehow, somewhere in Italy, a family took him in and hid him. He spent a large portion of time hiding in a Pizza oven whenever the Germans were about, until it was safe enough to make a break for it. The parents of my ex went over to Italy and found the village, spoke to the people and they all knew him/of him, met the family that took him in, etc. All very international happy families.

My father has done some dodgey things in cars, he's super straight now though but everytime we go for a drive up country for a fish or some such, another story comes out about that particular road. He's driven a lot of them and been over most the ranges and driven all over the place down here as he used to be on the pest control board.

Mine was in the resistance in Holland too. Crazy stories about trying to pinch machine guns off downed planes before the germans turned up. He lasted the whole war and got shot in the legs after liberation by a British soldier who thought a gun was not loaded. Ended up visiting the guy a few times on his trips back to Europe. Was always amazed at how many people he was in correspondence with. He must have spent a fortune on stamps.

  2. You need the note saying why the car has been stickerd by the police otherwise VTNZ will fail you on your exhaust even if its factorry, which requires you to get a exhaust cert(monies).

The police can sometimes help you with giving you a copy of this but its something you should try find out if you can get the infridgement notice from either the seller or police first.

    (just went through this)

Failing this a new razor blade removes stickers from windscreens pretty well.

    Classic.

  3. I'm ok with spending a bit more than $2000 on a car esp if I can invest the monies I would have spent on my current daily. :)

I guess I have a basic gut feeling about spending alot of money on a car that isn't worth much. ie if I can get a grand for my car as it is but only 2 grand after I've spent that much on it, the sums don't add up.

Also with two kids, having a boring reliable daily is almost a given.

    Sad I know.

  4. bloody hell, $500 odd bucks for that seems fairly pricey. I got quoted a couple of hunge to fix a pretty yuck hole in the pillar of my pajero.

if that's the only rot in it, and it's a pretty reliable car in good nick then i'd be inclined to spend the money. $2k isn't going to get you fuck all of a good daily. to get a car in good nick you really need to spend ~$4k I reckon.

We got my gf's miage for $2500 just over a year ago. Has been reliable as fook and it's in really good nick. That was the one and only car below $3500 we looked at in that condition.

A biggish chunk of the 500 is a flat fee for taking out and putting back the windscreen by glass guys

  5. When to call it quits? Not my oldschool, just my daily. Needs 1300 bucks worth of work + another at least 500 in near future. 94 Caldina SW done 260k probably worth only $2000 after the $1300 repairs. When to pull the pin though??
