Sorry if this has been covered, I had a search and nothing came up. I can get roadside assist for $4 a month or AA costs me $90 a year. Is AA really that much better? Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks

So turns out it is hard to find a decent trans for something this old, and I have neither the skills, time or inclination to sort it my self.
-
Maybe I'll pack it in and buy a pick up.

So my daily 93 Toyota Caldina has decided that 320k is enough for the first transmission. It doesn't want to go forwards any more. Apart from that solidly reliable and practically perfect in every way. What to do? Anyone know where to find a replacment Trans? and ballpark cost? and Any mechanics in the Pukekohe area want to do a cashy?
Thats my story
Matt

put them all in a sock then you can also use it as a street brawling weapon.

I'm about 20mins from pukekohe if you are in the area and I have all the saw you can handle
Puke is a looong way from wellington though

This just popped up in my email. Might be a great thing? Might be a little plastic box of trouble?

so got some supplies today, does this sound ok? run a flush, drain oil, change filter, fill with diesel oil, run for 5000km, flush, filter, diesel oil again, 5000km then drain and filter and 20/50W oil? Someone tell me if this will sieze my engine....

so by rights could I put $40 in store the 8c discount, drive round block, rinse and repeat?

been thinking and looking. The Crv looks good but don't think it has enough boot space. When we load up our caldina it is chocca (2 kids 2 Adults) and the grand vitara is probably a bit big of a car for the wife to happily drive and the fuelly no's don't look great.
-
cool, good to know - will look into it. Are they a bit bigger than a CR-V?
-
are subaru foresters any good? 2l engine seems good but are they underpowered?
-
cheers, looked at those links. would the bigger things like a harrier etc chew the fuel?

budget sub 10k Used mostly as family wagon then morphing into a load carrying, tool carrying part time builders wagon. Got rid of a surf years back but dunno if I can justify another. Maybe a highish station wags. What are those Volvo XC70 cross country things like? Or maybe an Outback? Discuss.
-
So I'm now looking for a car/ute/suv etc with decent mpg, decent ground clearance, and decent reliabilaty. Should I start a new thread or bludge off this on? Any good ideas?
-
this exactly the feedback I was after! Thanks muchly!

Apart from the name, anyone got opinions on these? Stuff like do they break down constantly, gas useage. Live rural so want something better than current low station wagon to deal with shitty driveways and better visability from driveways. Also a work wag once kids are at school.
Cheers

missed that, sorry

would an engine flush help?
