  1. Oh my... This is a cool thread. I'll certainly be badgering you for ideas, advice, tips etc in these engines. In fact I'll start now.

The dizzy setup looks different on yours. I think I have a 1.8 k8ze as that's the engine that the jam eunos 500 was sold with. It has a separate Coil with ignite next too it. I have read that some models- maybe the DE versions, have a dizzy and combined coil unit?

The engine I am removing from the eunos, pulling it out this morning, has a JE50 airflow meter- again I think this is fitted to the ZE models.

    Second question is..

What ecus will run what engines. From what I have gathered the ZE ecus will run any ZE engine be it 1.8, 2.0 or 2.5. But a DE Ecu won't run a ZE engine to its maximum performance. If this is not the case then I will need to source a ZE Ecu in the future when I go to fit the 2.5 ZE engine. I will be starting with the 1.8 first as I know it runs fine and it's more fun going up in power not down..

The car will be certed as a 2.5 though. Nice that to the uninformed they are all the same externally...

oh no you again haha :-D

not too sure whats the deal with the dizzys i think they just chucked the external coil ones on when ever they did randomly, because the kfze(2l) i had was out of a lantis type r with the lsd and it had a internal coil..

but do stay with the external coil setup as the internal ones are known for crap performance and burning out

from what i gather people use the k8 ecu and the mx3 afm which is the je50 same as the 2.5 one and loom on there klze ,as they don't have to change wiring but not used to 100% of power but still work fine.

i don't think you can use a kf(2l) ecu and afm on a klze(2.5l) as some of the wiring is different and i think the vris points are different on the ecu soo won't work so well, but the k8 vris points are closer matched to the klze(2.5l)

there how ever is a base map i have in my hands for megasquirt and theres a pnp setup out for mx3 for the klze and theres some people around that can chip the k8 ecu to match the klze.

sorry if im making it confusing with all the klze klde ect can get very confusing quick but keep posted as would love to see your one done rwd in a little viva

You sir are awesome. Im loving it!!!

cheers hopefully very soon make some big progress on it and go for a drive in it for the first time in 2 years a 1 month and with the v6  those moments are very sad when i sit in it and pretend it was drivable :-(

  2. At a later date I may well bolt a turbo to it but for now I want to see how economical it'll be. I think to start with I'll fit the KF 2litre. I think the KF I have lined up is a ZE model with the higher lift cams.

The 1.8 litre engine in the eunos that I am stripping out now may well be a ZE rather than a DE as well.. Not sure as I'm still learning heaps!!! Like so many bloody wires!! The vaf is a JA50 if that means anything.

yes there quite hard to tell if there a ze or a de with the kfs,k8s but easy to tell the displacment as theres a k8 or kf or kl printed in the back of the block on the left.question why don't you just find a full klze 2.5v6 one with the 10:1 comp pistons ? or do you want to stay in the 2l range ,

ps you will have to do some porting on your kf 2l heads to match the square ports on that manifold you are getting as thats to fit a klze 2.5 with the square ports

Yeah depending on what I end up with I could certainly be interested in the Ecu. The eunos has a dizzy on back with one seperate coil- basic stuff. Still not sure on ID of engine but I think only the very last mx6's etc came with a crank mounted trigger wheel and Ecu controlled ignition...?

The clutch in the eunos is a brand new exedy item. In fact the car still had the boxes in the boot. hopefully it'll work but I might need a 1.8 mx5 disc to suit the rx7 box input splines.

i think they all have the trigger wheel which is a 6-1 spikes on it , also have a look at 98+ 626 klg4 2.5 ecu and ign setup if you just want a maf and obd2, 3 outputs to the coil pack and no dizzy as they have a cam angle sensor mounted in the back cyl head which would probably suit you more as your rwd ,but they only came out in the states... as for clutch i think they use the stock v6 clutch but have a Gooooogle around for klze swapped miata :-D

I'm still not sure if the eunos K8 engine I have now is a DE. But yeah- I will have plenty of bits to play about with. I have also read that it can be wise to check the cam bearing tolerances because if too much clearence then you can lose oil pressure - some engines dropping pressure can end up with the main bearings spinning?

yea ive seen that kind of makes sense as you have too much oil pressure in the head and not much down below near the 6th bearing, ill be checking all my clearances when i get around to putting mine back together..

Not exactly sure i he means just a bell housing for conversion or if one is already converted to suit? I'm still keen on keeping my rx7 box in place but will see what happens. Cheers for all your info. What cars have you had with these engines?

theres a adapter around somewhere on the net for using a rx7 gbox on a kl and the spacer for the flywheel to retain the stock one and clutch setup

its alright happy to share some info 8) , heres mine http://oldschool.co....-kfze-to-klze/

  3. oh yes another kl swap

they can handle some boost about 8psi on a stock klze then you can upgrade the rods to 302 ones and use a oversized bearing or use KJ-ZEM rods with different wrist pins, but N/A is the way to go!

also got klze vaf/ kl36 ecu/klze dizzy with the ext coil and a brand new exedy clutch if you are after them

if you plan on going n/a look at upgrade the keepers and retainers from the klde as the ze ones are know for dropping out at higher rpm lol

nice score on those parts tho i would of loved to snap them up with the other parts ive got ,so is the bellhousing you got bolt to the kl and w55 gbox?

  4. oh my

just the usually setup changed again supercharger found its way on my engine

    ..................

    ...................

    ..........

    boost is back

eaton m90 sc off a ford thunderbird 3.8 plan now is to run a water / methanol setup into the roots and a water to air intercooler if i can fit it in the manifold im going to make over the week, then widen the track 2.5cm each side to match the lantis track

    scm90.jpg

cant be ass with fitting the itbs and tuning and the sc got my attention. now lets see the hater comments coming

  5. yea bpt are quite good motors all tho just get a bp from the wreckers and turbo that only difference is pistons, then get evo injectors and then do a vf10 or vf8 hybrid and you should be sweet

or get a klze if you want to get 200hp n/a but would be alot of work to fit :?

  6. oh really weird :| , um crap cant remember what the combo was the tutor told me when i was at course last year

it was a ford courier bellhousing with another gearbox or the other way around and he had that fitted to a zetec in his track car

  7. hey hey floor pans are a little different

bfmr rear subframe bolts up two holes match up and the other 2 you need to drill out and maybe weld a threaded tube in or something.

i know there a person around who has converted there bfmp to a bfmr ,driveshaft fits fine down the exhaust bit of the floor pan but was a bit close to hitting around the transfer

i was going to convert my bfmp to 4wd but no gboxs would clear the v6 :doubt:

  8. i see where you guys are coming from , by the way i was just meaning the height of the factory manifold not the length of the runners. The bends would of been similar to what the sliver tops have as stock in the plenum

only thing would be worrying about having them angled would start to put plenum very close to the radiator and exhaust manifolds and entry of the ports... :?

  9. yea kind of being thinking about this for awhile , quick paint drawing to show you

    Untitled-2.png

factory manifold comes up about 6.5inches my itb length as they are is 7 inches then going to add a curved trumpet on top to gain another 4 inches. Then have two half manifolds with panel filters on top, so will stick like out a inch or so passed the bonnet so filters will nearly be kind of flush with bonnet so good amount of cold air coming in 8)

question would the half plenum be counted as some of the length of the runners? the plenum's are the things that confuse me :roll://i841

  10. cheers man

that was with factory bushing in now have all Nolathane Bushings . I do see what you mean tho think it just looks like that as the front bumper wasn't bolted down  .

im going to have a big play with the suspension again as not 100% happy with it, going to fit rx7 lower ball joints at the front to get 10mm more track and going to make some adjustable control arms to add another 10mm of track for the rear too as im not happy with the camber in the rear as well :? and might make some top hats so i can adjust caster as well 8)

  11. then out comes the engine again for the 80th time

    SAM_2526.jpg

one manifold done next one to go... and then got to make injector boss :x

    SAM_2541.jpg

41mm tube flared out to the square size of a klze port then the ends flared a mm

    SAM_2554.jpg

think i might have to chuck away my exhaust mani and remake one again as it probably will hit the radiator support...

  12. bumpers2.jpg

ah update time maybe been a busy few months with moving and about to change jobs again this week so not too much done on the étude :D

started making some 40mm headers which will be about 22 inches long out of alot of bends, then into two 2.25 inch merge collectors then merge again into a single 2.5inch that will be merged over the gearbox .As theres no room to get both exhaust banks piping equal from under the car from the longer headers...then 2.5 inches mandrel bend pipe all the way to the back :P

also started making the inlet manifolds to fit the 4age sliver top individual throttle bodies , which should look sweet when done

    533403_347359141985684_777836917_n.jpg

^new labtop to tune the ms2 v3 ecu with, also got a innovate mtx-l wideband

and what else the engine is in 1000's of pieces till ive finished porting and modifying cams ect then give the engine a refreshing up

  13. yea i know what you mean most them did it just for living costs ect, i did the courtesy ford one but was doing the paying course which was really good didn't have those other havewits around and tutor was the best....Think in 4 months we did there whole years work and was onto other stuff like a golf cart power by a 1300cc motor bike engine ,then ended up finishing my work+extra units and just worked on my car for a month or so

main problem atm most the garages are having trouble staying open
