Those factory production numbers are interesting. They must be quite a rare car in NZ.
Did Tickford create the 5.6 litre just for these cars?

I deliberately leave my headlights on about every 6 months to get to around 10.5-11 volts charge overnight and batteries arethe always mint in my cars.
What’s the theory here, Muncie? Wouldn’t discharging the battery *cause* sulphation?

Classified has expired. What was it?

I recently did some building work at a mitsi dealer and ASXs were flying out the door so they certainly seem to be popular.
As a long time reader of this site my head was full of jokes and prejudice against Mitsubishi (Couldn’t put my mitsi on the dyno cos the techs’ earmuffs weren’t rated for the tappet noise! - ho ho ho) but that attitude did not seem to be shared by others.
Regarding the servicing cost I had some work done on my falcon while I was working there, cos it was so convenient, and their labour rate was $100 an hour. Balancing this out was the fact that they could do the work right then or tomorrow or the next day. My independent mechanic who charges $75 an hour is booked 4-6 weeks in advance.
So yeah, I’d jump on the mitsi bus.

Where’s that graphic that shows how every sporty toyota has an engine one size too small... ae86 should have a 3sge, altezza should have a v8, starlet should have a 4age etc.
It summed up my thinking on the 4age perfectly

I wonder if that is still 100mm off the ground?
When I look at my leaf rear end the U bolt/ spring perch arrangement is about 140mm from the ground with 16 inch wheels and standard ride height
load up the car and it gets to about 120mm.
I would imagine the owner of that wag has dropped the rear at least 50mm.
Not saying it doesn’t look awesome but I’d want to retain practicality if I did it to mine
^ big difference between barras and intechs you reckon, xsspeed?

Nice park brake
Lol. Its a habit I inherited from Dad and Granddad. Handbrake has been tu tu’ed with so it does work but you always need backup .
Maybe not in an auto trans car though!

I actually want one of these ugly turds. But I'm never going to get one because they're so terrible, and I'd get sick of it in a few months.
Try and find one with the VCT (variable cam timing) motor. Might be special enough to keep you interested.
I forget what they came in, late model fairmonts and xr6s maybe?

Oooo double spoiler!
In other news my wag sprung a serious oil leak and I got a bit worried. Luckily it was just the oil pressure sender that had cracked. $15 for the replacement part

Anyone want some Loadhog helper springs?
http://www.loadhog.co.za/intro.htm
I pulled them off my my AU wag cos they were raising the ride height and I only tow a garden trailer. They came on the diff I swapped in
Made for boat and caravan towing I reckon. And for utes, all good for that.
Looking for beers/cash/swaps

There was a thread on here a few years back where an oldschooler tried to make a race replica out of an Opel Vectra. Trying to get the required slam seemed to be the problem with the sump hitting the steering rack (from memory) and the inner guards needing to be chopped up.
guess the real racers used a tubed front end?

Pic 3 looks to be a James Autocycle. Early 50s I reckon

Yeah, I lusted after these too. My parents had a corona stationwagon but I used to ask Dad to buy a Sierra. Especially the ghia model with the rear-seat headrests for some reason. I thought they were the height of luxury!

Sway bar bushes and shocks seem to be the main culprits
(This was Bigfoot's suggestion for fixing clonking noises coming from my front suspension. He was right. Thanks Bigfoot!)
...Yeah, it was the "D" bushes where the sway bar connects to the body. They looked ok from the outside but must have been chooched. Replaced them with superpro items and no more clonks!

I drove a p10 (sr20) once and it crapped all over the 205gti I owned at the time. Way better brakes, sharper turn-in, and a vastly better gearchange. I shut up about it quick smart

Good point. Let's move to a rolling 30 year cut off. The last black number plate (my understanding of the official "oldschool" marker) was in 1986. That's 34 years ago. Who should I ask about this?

What happened to the OP in this thread? Bring back Joker and his Hyundai's!
Are there any unmolested RWD starlets left? I remember my girlfriend's flatmate having a late model one back in the day. Fuel injected, 5 speed, mudflaps and a ref counter, that kind of thing. I'd buy one of those over a modified one. Except Snoozin's fine example. That thing is amazing!

Yeah e30 coupe. Or the model after that. All 3 series bimmers look awesome as 2 doors I reckon.
Or those clown shoe BMWs. (Z3 M coupe) They were basically a hatchback.
Long live "what car" threads on OS!

10 grand?! And you can't find a starlet for that money?
If I had that kind of money I'd be looking for an AE85 that has been converted to AE86 spec. Actually no, I'd be looking for an AE85 that had something other than a 4age in it.
Oh hey, what about a s14 or s15 Nissan? Not a hatch but still 2 doors

Cool project. But I always wondered...are these things hard to ride?

Front suspension clonks, in ma' wag
Anyone had this issue / know which bushes are the most likely culprits?

I looked at all the trailer options 3 or so years back and ended up with a “Trayla” brand one direct from their factory in Levin.
Went for a 7.5x4 cos that seemed to be the best value.
The front and rear gates fold down to form a deck extension if I want to carry a full sheet.
