Mondeo ZETEC swap!
-
Yeah that will be my next port of call. Was really hoping (naively) that it would be as simple as swapping the offending sensors. Will be taking to it with a multimeter this weekend. I'm gonna check out the ECU end first before I decide to remove the loom and have a squiz at trying to see if there's anything amiss there.
-
Yup disconnected the battery and cleared the codes every time. The CEL will clear, but as soon as I rev it/put it under any load, the CEL comes back same codes again. I'm hoping its not a wiring issue, but it most likely is. I will try and exhaust all options before trying to look at another loom...lol
-
Hey all just an update. I replaced the two sensors with those from a working car but am still getting the cel. I'm starting to wonder if those codes aren't for afm and oxy sensor or if I have a wiring issue. Could someone confirm the codes please? Thanks in advance
-
Yes it is alloy. Cool I thought I'd check here first for recommendations or something. Cheers for the heads up. Will remove the intercooler sometime this weekend after another shakedown drive.

Messing around with ducting on the MR2 and noticed the interfooler mount tab has broken off Who here could repair it? Can post pics if required
-
Will do next time lol.

Was on the motorway. I'm afraid I did a less than discreet double take while in the whale haha.
-
This thing looked awesome. I saw it last weekend on my way into town. Delish!
-
Hmm the thought has crossed my mind to cut the fronts to go as low as the rears, but if I did that, right now with standard wheels, I wouldn't be able to turn the wheels...lol
Read-I need to hurry up and get those 14s on!
-
That's the plan! But I need some spare rear springs/Falcon ones apparently fit? so I can adjust to suit, as I don't think I want to go as low as the rears I have now go....
-
Hah did not know it was a sun visor. I shall try and use it from now on. Gonna hopefully get some time in the next 2 weeks to try and suss out the ride height, but may just end up being raked for the Welly meet.
-
Yay! Time for some hot sauce
-
Haha yup, best I managed to get was 100km from a quarter tank....lol. I think sorting out the CEL would help though considering its both AFM and O2 sensor=both ends of the engine....
-
Wofd and regd=feelsgoodman.
Had a sweet weekend off just racking up the mileage on the MR2 and Crown. Couple of issues with the MR2 currently in terms of alignment issues (read sliding too much) and a messy shift linkage. But otherwise, the turbo swap was all successful, and nice fat boostsss now. Will be saving up some coin to nab the last few bits I want to do to it before trying to learn how to tune/blow it up. Also been trying to figure out if w2a would be something I'd like to do.....
And also racked a decent amount of ks in the Crown too after I cleaned the inside again! Not the most fuel efficient car, but it should get better once I have fixed the CEL. Also managed to fit the supposed "lowering springs" into the front and rear. The rears were too low/I was scraping tire, and the fronts aren't really that much lower.
Fail. So the plan is to get some one ways in the front to bring it down quite a bit as it's looking oh so sad. And the rear springs are too low/insta sticker material, so I will be looking to get some replacement rears to finetune the ride heigh...cough cough... In the mean time, a bit of rake for giggles.
Might as well donk that shizz. Picture of the engine bay after another clean. The rocker cover is bugging me, so will be doing something about that soon once I get the other nagging bits sorted out.
Might do something about the inlet manifold too as its sad/oxidised.
Height comparison fail using super accurate equipment.
Fronts
Ideally I would like this to be around 1 finger or less.
Rears
Might as well just fist it...
Apart from that, made some other progress in the interior as well. Finally got my rear reading lights working.
Another clean and scrub of the inside. I removed the carpets when I washed them.
However, this side of the car is annoying me. It seems like paint/cement/cum stain of some kind was spilt previously and is caked on the carpet. Anyone know of how to fix this? Its annoying me as the foot carpets are stained too.
And another stain I'm not too fond of in the back. Hoping that a couple of goes with carpet stain remover will cure it.
Will also need to rip into the centre dash to get my ac lights working as all work, apart from the vent controls backlight.
Anyone know what this thing is? It's been boggling me all day today lol.

Oh my I hope you chuck the wheels off the van onto this! What are you gonna do with the wires? I think I'm turning into a crown weirdo too now lol
-
Ah sweet, so we were kinda on the right track, except for not jacking the car high enough, and undoing the wrong joint....woops. Thanks for the help guys, will post up results tomorrow night when I give it another crack
-
So if I got the balljoint out, and just jacked the car as high as it can go, the spring won't shoot out? It looks like the spring is a bit bent under pressure atm, so we haven't taken it any further for fear of it shooting out and killing us....
Its kind of curved atm as it releases the tension and we dont want it to shoot out, hence not doing anything to it yet...
-
Lololol nope I don't wanna die. The US guys seem to use chains, so I will use that probably. But I would still prefer a spring compressor as it would be easier/my dangly bits would be safe.

Yeah I have those as well. The biggest issue for me is trying to get the standard springs out as they are ridiculously large on the crown. Which is why I had a look at truck spring removal, and the tool in my OP was consistently used across.
I wish I could fit those compressors into the spring housing along with the spring, but sadly it's too tight.
-
Heya beav, I have 2 sets of those, the main problem being that they dont fit into the housing in the chassis for the springs while attached.
Ie, won't fit in the hole. And the upper arm etc are in the way to get any decent force on it.
From what I can gather, the compressor I posted above would need to be disassembled inside the spring before dropping it out of the shock hole in the lower arm? /separate chassis car noob haha.
-
Hey team, been looking at lowering the Crown and would like to do it safely, and I found this nifty tool whenever I looked at guides for doing truck springs in the US. I did one side, but not really keen on doing the other side the way we did it last (jack+misc hori style)
How does one use this tool? As I am not sure how it would fit into the spring hole?
I found this article, but it doesn't show how he got the spring compressor in/out of the spring housing?
http://www.superchevy.com/technical/chassis/suspension_steering/sucp_0806w_coil_spring_installation/ Does anyone have one that I could borrow, and is anyone able to teach me how to use this? Cheers all Will love you long time for help/advice.
