  1. Thanks guys

Where it points its a pretty short distance to the IC, would have made it up today but the inlet is 2 1/4 inch i think? and i got 2 inch couplings. works on the turbo outlet atleast. ill try get it together tommorow if im motivated.

    still nothings turned up :(

    todays progress:

Mandrel bends are actually pretty awesome to work with.

  2. Went outside for the first time in a month today.

Front mount is on, radiator is in, clutch is all bolted up, driveline is bolted in.

    Started making the intercooler piping.

Looks like the coolant lines are going to be a pain.

intake mani and bottom coolant line are both getting some bits welded up, still waiting on shocks and a muffler to arrive.

also went to bolt up the oil feed line for the turbo and it just sort shat itself. not exactly sure why but ill need to get it fixed. Cheap chinese shit eh.

Ooh and i took the towbar off. enter completely impracticable mode

  3. Will that have enough travel to get a cert? They normally want a certain amount of droop and compression.

at a certable height it should do, will have 20mm travel there i think.

    engines in.

has about the same clearance for the turbo.

springs will hopefully come this week, muffler to, waiting on a bolt and oil fitting iv had to get made to be finished then i can bolt all the drive line in properly and route the turbo oil lines.

still lots of shit to do unfortunately but i think it should be drivable within a couple of weeks. if all goes well.

  4. How low are you planning to run? Suspension in mind? I would like to run cheap and nasty stuff but stance keep appearing as something I want a lot haha.

    Fuck that's a large turbo...

Ill get it as low as i can legally and try for a cert then once all is well drop it as low as i can without it bottoming out to much.

Im getting springs custom made from nz spring works, 12k and 100mm front and 11k and 90mm rear. should allow me to sit on or below bottomed out.

And yes. boost lag will be lulz.

  5. Yes and thanks.

I had my cam belt snap about 2 weeks ago. 190k ks not a bad effort. so im actually motivated to do stuff.

My frame rails were fucked so i cut them out and replaced with 2mm folded sheet.

My bash plate has been making it self useful, the gap between the subframe and the sump has a dent in it. can sort of see.

How i would like to roll that height daily.

Anyway. The turbo i had was fucked so i have a t3/t4 to replace it. hoping it will spool by 4k. external wastegate aswell. ill grab some pictures at some point. replaced the cambelt and waterpump on the 1.8.

Didnt like my wheel locking up when trying to go to full lock so iv cut and stiched the front guards and i can go full lock without rubbing in the above state. It looks yuck though so i wont post any pics.

Should be ordering new springs on monday, need to make up a coolant block for the back of the engine and sort a few other things then it can go in.

Iv also cleaned the wiring in the car a lot and stripped the interior.

    yeah.

  6. I'm very interested in the exhaust valve.

I have been contemplating that ever since I found out what mufflers did.

Whats the motor that you use?

I guess an old throttle body with a circular plate cut to fit the ID of the pipe?

I thought about just doing the flap part of of box section and then doing something like this for the V8.

Although the different designs are endless you get the idea.

    54018607.jpg

I used a electric window winder motor. the flap was a 2mm circle i ground to sort of fit and a piece of tube with a slot cut into it to hold the flap. It works but it doesn't sound nice when closed as it does a shitty rattle.

you can buy pre fabbed "exhaust cutouts" like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 343199.htm but they're stupidly expensive.

if you make one just make sure there's no play in it so it wont rattle.

  7. ah shite. I'm going to sound like a dick but did you tack it up to check fitment first? also what about stuff in the car, engine mounts, inner guards etc.?

nah never checked it and hence welded it on upside down.

thought it was wide bolts at top thin at bottom. always the other way around.

well have to cut it off grind it back and reweld it the right way.

    fuck.

    ohwell.

  8. Still tuning the ms but its getting there.

    exhaust mani semi welded.

    ace6711589c595c39ae578c82afaee6109e2e94f0f4ff9885649555b50a3c0db6g.jpg

looks horrid. welding is 60% good. need to file down the inside but i cant be assed so ill do a halfassed job of it tommrow.

also the td04 turbo i brought is fucked with bad shaft play and cracked exhaust housing so ill have to get a td05 at some point.

  9. sweet progress man, did you get an MS that plugged straight into the MX loom?

nah just standard and cut into the loom.

the quiet side exhaust snapped off at the 2.5" so welded that back on today. set the timing on the ms correctly (was 8degrees to retarded) runs a little better now. going to make a new spark map and should run sweet.

started welding the exhaust mani together and its coming along nicely ill pop a pick up tomorrow.

  10. I saw ya somewhere between Auckland and Taupo on monday.

    Looked good

    Cheers man.

given up on turbo getting done this year. to little cash.

exhaust mani when half done. fuck i hate fileing.

Got a rwd sump from a na1.8 and tapped oil drain hole and blocked off the oil level stick hole.

its all bolted in on the engine now.

actually works really well iv got it blocking the 2.5 inch pipe only slightly louder than the blockoff plate when closed. ill put a vid up at some point.

  11. dun fuck all lately have been waiting on the rwd sump to arrive.

    almost finished the megasquirt.

sump looks like it will fit fine just need to get the old baffle out.

will need to mod the 1.6 engine mounts which hopefully wont be to hard.

managed to get a wof after fixing the crack in the chassis rails and the split engine mount.

bumpy drive up to Auckland for the weekend. think i might have seen a couple of you oldschoolers on the way.

  12. am now proud to say. i am to low to get a wof at vtnz. cant fit me over the pit rails :)

also went for wof. failed on engine mount with a crack right through it and left hand chassis rail has a tear in it

and found out my diff housing arm thing had cracked off at some point and was welded back together :?

  13. Ahh, thought those back roads looked a bit familliar... You should come over to Manfeild for a fang on the track/drive in the hills.

im not allowed on. iv got to have a roll bar.

    sucks man.

been meaning to go for a blast over the hill to welly for a while as i havent really gone for a drive since iv had the teins in.

sidenote: electronics are here =D. after paying gst :(
