Take it to Diff Specs in Pukekohe if no one is able to help. Good buggers who won't rip you off.

That sucks for the driver, not only what happened but the way the company at fault treated him also, but.. Why would he not have personal income protection? I thought that was the first thing you get when self employed to avoid having to "borrow off friends for mortgage payments"?

Also, just thinking, what colour would look good parked next to lime green? Bright orange?
Purple!

Looking for paint to protect cast iron callipers from rusting, went into Spraystore here in Chch and they suggested standard enamel will handle the temps fine.
This appeals as we can get a colour mixed thats not bright red/yellow (ideally looking for dark grey)
Can anyone confirm the temp limits of standard enamel?
Get em clean as you can and 2k epoxy them. usually grey/some you can tint darker if you're really fussy.

I dunno about that.
The guy from elite used to work for john. A few years ago I had four 13's widened for around $320. $80 per wheel (if four were being done)
EWC does "banding" for 100/wheel if I remember correctly. I wasn't too keen on that as my rims are ~45 years old so possibly rusty between the joins anyway.

John lovelady in darfield makes a much better job than elite.
I don't doubt that, but I would expect that you would pay a premium for his expertise. Always good to have more options though.

What was the $$$? for Elite wheels? would be good to get a recent price rather than the older threads with 2-5 year old costs
Set of 4
Original barrels removed
Centres blasted/dipped
New 13x7" barrels welded to centres
Powdercoated
Postage to AKL
Approx 1200, just over a week turnaround.

oh wow bugger? Is it not a job for an Engineering shop anymore either?
Im sure there are places out there that would do it, wether or not they do a good job would be hard to determine without the risk of finding out the hard way... Depends what you want done. EWC can widen but can also provide new shells depending on what size/width you're after.

Just had some done a month ago. Steel surgeon is no longer around. Nowhere in Auckland anymore- need to send them to Elite Wheel Company in Christchurch (who are great to deal with).

Anyone used Wheel Repair Services in Avondale/New Lynn? Close to me so might give them a go.

Where did you get the wheels done and what size are they? I have some 14 inch holden wheels that need new rims. (sorry for the tread hi jack)
Elite Wheels in CHC. They're 13s.

So this is leading me to think I need a wheel expert (my mechanic is great but I think this situation is a specialist thing)
Who's keen for a rim job!

You can get stick on weights that go on the barrel behind the face
I don't have a preference to what the weights on the inside are, could be a C&B, never see them. He did say he was gonna use sticky weights on the outside but didn't think they looked any better than the clip on ones he's used.

There is usually a 'static' setting on the balancing machine then you can just run weights on the inside.
Might not be quite as good but I used to always do it on mag type wheels and no problems
Oh yes? That sounds ideal, I'm thinking the machine the mechanic has is probably quite old/might not have that function?

Hey team,
I've just had a set of wheels made (new steel rims on old centres) and had them fitted/balanced by my mechanic who is also doing afew other bits on the car at the same time.
He's put weights on the outside lip and it looks terrible, even since I've colour coded the weights to the wheel. Is there a way that they can be balanced without these? Inside only? I appreciate that as a wheel with dish this may be difficult but as they currently are I'd almost rather run them unbalanced instead of looking like a commercial van...
Do any of you guys do this/do you know anyone I could get to have a look at them?
Im in Auckland.
Cheers!

It's no more than a minor annoyance - it's not really a problem but I do wonder if there is a solution of some sort.
To me, it's a bit like manual vs electric window...
Electric windows are for suckers

How big of an issue is this for you? Could always just flick the wipers up when you park, flick em down while you drive..

Is it actually on someones property? Looks crashed into hedge and abandoned
Yeah that was a driveway (can see the break in the verge) but has long since been taken back by nature, which I can only assume is the same fate as the owner.

Considering what I have seen that's been rejected from a WOF point of view, the only thing that intruiges me about that is- how many people they have lured into thinking their damaged car will 'sneak through' somehow with major damage to 'non-structual areas'?
Get it looked at by a specialist, you'll probably have to chop/align/weld new sections in. Nothing highlights a crap repair more than unnecessary amounts of sealer/underseal.

Yep really needs a properly sealed finish otherwise bubbles and all that fun stuff can happen. Probably easier to Matthew black it.
